³⁶ And be like men who wait for their lord to return from the wedding feast; that when he comes and knocks, they may open the door for him immediately.

¹ And Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables, and said, ² The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who gave a marriage feast for his son, ³ And sent forth his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast: but they would not come. ⁴ Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fat calves have been killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast. ⁵ But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his business: ⁶ And the rest took his servants, and treated them spitefully, and killed them. ⁷ The king was angry, and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. ⁸ Then he said to his servants, The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. ⁹ Therefore, go into the highways, and as many as you shall find, invite to the marriage feast. ¹⁰ So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding hall was filled with guests. ¹¹ And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment: ¹² And he said to him, Friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ¹⁴ For many are called, but few are chosen.

⁴² Therefore watch: for you do not know on what day your Lord will come. ⁴³ But know this, that if the owner of the house had known at what time the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. ⁴⁴ Therefore you must also be ready: for the Son of man will come at an hour you do not expect.

¹ Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened to ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. ² And five of them were foolish, and five were wise. ³ Those who were foolish took their lamps, but took no oil with them: ⁴ But the wise took oil in their flasks with their lamps. ⁵ While the bridegroom tarried, they all became drowsy and slept. ⁶ And at midnight there was a cry, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go out to meet him. ⁷ Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. ⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil; for our lamps are going out. ⁹ But the wise answered, saying, No; lest there not be enough for us and you: but rather go to those who sell, and buy for yourselves. ¹⁰ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut. ¹¹ Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. ¹² But he answered and said, Truly I say to you, I do not know you. ¹³ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

³⁴ It is like a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to each man his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. ³⁵ Watch therefore: for you do not know when the master of the house comes, at evening, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: ³⁶ Lest he come suddenly and find you sleeping. ³⁷ And what I say to you I say to all, Watch.

²⁵ And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and he was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Spirit was upon him. ²⁶ And it was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. ²⁷ And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law, ²⁸ He took him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, ²⁹ Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word: ³⁰ For my eyes have seen your salvation,

⁷ Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and is patient for it, until it receives the early and the late rains. ⁸ You also be patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draws near.

¹³ Yea, I think it right, as long as I am in this tent of my body, to stir you up way of reminder; ¹⁴ Knowing that shortly I must put off this tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me. ¹⁵ Moreover, I will endeavour to see to it that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.

²⁰ But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, ²¹ Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

²⁰ Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will eat with him, and he with me.
