¹ God, who spoke in times past to our fathers by the prophets at many times and in various ways,

⁵⁵ As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed forever.

⁷² To show the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

²⁷ And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them all the things concerning himself in the scriptures.

⁴⁴ He said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which are written about me in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms.

²² Moses gave you circumcision; (though it is not from Moses, but from the fathers;) and on the sabbath day you circumcise a man.

²⁹ We know that God spoke to Moses: as for this man, we know not where he comes from.

³⁰ Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath that he would seat one of his descendants upon his throne;

³² And we declare to you good news, that the promise which was made to the fathers,

²³ And when they had appointed a day, many came to him in his lodging; to whom he explained and testified of the kingdom of God, trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning until evening.

² For if the word spoken by angels was binding, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence;

¹⁰ Of this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that should come to you enquired and searched diligently: ¹¹ Seeking to find to whom and when the Spirit of Christ within them was pointing, when he testified beforehand of the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that should follow. ¹² It was revealed to them that they did not serve themselves, but you, in the things which have now been made known to you by those who preached the gospel to you through the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven; things into which angels desire to look.

²⁰ Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is a matter of one's private interpretation. ²¹ For prophecy did not come in times of old by the will of man: but holy men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
