³⁸ I have sent you to reap that whereon ye have not labored. Others have labored, and ye have entered into their labor.

¹ In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, ² saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. ³ For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths!" ⁴ And John himself had his raiment of camels hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the country about the Jordan; ⁶ and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

²³ And he went round the whole of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the glad tidings of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

⁸ But why did ye go out? to see a man clothed in soft raiment? Lo! they that wear soft clothing are in kings houses. ⁹ But why did ye go out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and more than a prophet. ¹⁰ For this is he of whom it is written: "Lo! I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee." ¹¹ Truly do I say to you, Among those born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist. But he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent seize upon it. ¹³ For all the Prophets and the Law, until John, prophesied.

⁷ He came as a witness, to bear witness of the light, that through him all might believe.

⁴¹ They therefore received his word, and were baptized; and there were added on that day about three thousand souls.

⁴ Many however of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men became five thousand.

³² And the multitude of those who believed were of one heart, and of one soul; and not one of them said that aught of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

¹⁴ and more and more were believers added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women;

⁷ And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was greatly enlarged; and a great multitude of the priests were obedient to the faith.

⁴ Now those that had been scattered abroad went through the country preaching the word. ⁵ And Philip went down to a city of Samaria, and preached to them the Christ. ⁶ And the multitudes with one accord gave heed to the things spoken by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs which he wrought. ⁷ For from many that had unclean spirits came they out crying with a loud voice; and many that were palsied, and that were lame, were cured. ⁸ And there was great joy in that city.

¹⁴ And the apostles at Jerusalem, hearing that Samaria had received the word of God, sent to them Peter and John; ¹⁵ who, having come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. ¹⁶ For it had not yet fallen upon any of them; but they had only been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. ¹⁷ Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

³⁷ Ye yourselves know what was spoken of through the whole of Judaea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached, ³⁸ relating to Jesus of Nazareth, that God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were overpowered by the Devil; for God was with him.

⁴² and he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is he who hath been appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. ⁴³ To him all the prophets bear witness, that through his name every one that believeth in him shall receive forgiveness of sins.

¹¹ searching what or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them signified, when it testified beforehand the sufferings to come upon Christ, and the glories that were to follow; ¹² to whom it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you, they were ministering the things, which have now been announced to you by them that have brought the glad tidings to you by the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.
