¹ Jesus, therefore, six days before the passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead.

¹⁷ And he left them, and went out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.

⁶ Now when Jesus was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, ⁷ there came to him a woman having an alabaster bottle of very costly ointment, and poured it on his head while he was reclining at table. ⁸ But the disciples seeing it, were much displeased, saying, To what purpose is this waste?. ⁹ For this might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. ¹⁰ And Jesus, perceiving it, said to them, Why do ye trouble the woman? For she hath done a good deed to me. ¹¹ For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always.

¹¹ And he entered Jerusalem, and the temple; and having looked round on all things, the evening being now come, he went out to Bethany, with the twelve.

³ And when he was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, there came a woman having an alabaster bottle of ointment of pure spikenard, very precious; and breaking the bottle, she poured it on his head. ⁴ And there were some that were much displeased, [and said] among themselves, Why is this waste of the ointment made? ⁵ For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred denaries, and given to the poor. And they chid her harshly. ⁶ But Jesus said, Let her alone; why do ye trouble her? A good deed hath she done for me. ⁷ For the poor ye have always with you, and whenever ye will, ye can do good to them; but me ye have not always. ⁸ She hath done what she could; she hath anointed my body beforehand for its burial.

⁵⁰ And he led them out as far as to Bethany; and he lifted up his hands and blessed them.

¹ But there was a certain man sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

⁴⁴ He that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith to them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁵⁵ And the passover of the Jews was at hand; and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.

²⁰ Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.
