¹² But one Ananias, a devout man according to the Law, well spoken of by all the Jews who dwelt there,

²⁵ And lo! there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and he was a righteous and devout man, waiting for the consolation of Israel. And the Holy Spirit was upon him;

³ Therefore, brethren, look out among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint over this business;

² And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

¹⁰ And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias, and to him the Lord said in a vision, Ananias! And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. ¹¹ And the Lord said to him, Arise, and go into the street called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus; for lo! he prayeth, ¹² and hath seen a man, named Ananias, coming in and putting his hand on him, that he might receive sight. ¹³ But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how great evils he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem. ¹⁴ And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. ¹⁵ But the Lord said to him, Go; for this man is to me a chosen vessel, to bear my name before nations, and kings, and the sons of Israel. ¹⁶ For I myself will show him how great things he must suffer for my names sake. ¹⁷ And Ananias went away, and entered the house; and putting his hands on him, he said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus who appeared to thee in the way thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mayst receive sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ And immediately there fell off from his eyes as it were scales; and he received sight, and arose, and was baptized.

²² And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for thee to his house, and to hear words from thee.

⁴ And some of them were convinced, and joined themselves to Paul and Silas, and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the women of high rank not a few.

⁸ through honor and dishonor, through evil report and good report; as deceivers, and true;

⁷ moreover he must also have a good report from them that are without, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the Devil.

² For by it the elders obtained a good report.
