²⁸ We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

²⁰ »Even though you planned evil against me, God planned good to come out of it. This was to keep many people alive, as he is doing now.

⁶ »I show mercy (loving kindness) to thousands of generations of those who love me and obey my commandments.

² »Remember the forty years Jehovah your God led you in the wilderness. He did this in order to humble you and test you. He wanted to know what was in your heart. Whether you would obey his commandments. ³ »He humbled you (allowed you to suffer) with hunger and then fed you with manna. Neither you nor your fathers had seen this before. He did this to teach you that a person cannot live on bread alone but must live on all (everything) (every word) that proceeds from the mouth of Jehovah.

¹⁶ »He fed you in the desert with manna. Your fathers had never seen this. He did this in order to humble you and test you. But he also did this so that things would go well for you in the end.

⁵ »You must love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with your entire mind and with all your strength.

⁵ I said: »O Jehovah (YHWH), the God of heaven, the great God, greatly to be respected, keeping faith and mercy with those who have love for him and are true to his laws:

¹ ([Sons of Korah]) God is our refuge and strength, a ready help in times of trouble. ² Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea.

³⁶ The children also of his servants shall inherit it. Those who love his name shall dwell in it.

⁵ »Jehovah the God of Israel says: ‘Like these good figs, so I will regard the captives of Judah as good. I have sent them out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans. ⁶ »‘I will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them to this land again. I will build them up and not overthrow them. ²⁹ The earth trembles and writhes in pain. Jehovah carries out his plans against Babylon to make Babylon a wasteland so that no one will live there.

⁹ »I will bring the third part into the fire. I will refine them, as silver is refined, and I will test them as gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say: ‘It is my people!’ They will say: ‘Jehovah is my God!«’

⁴⁸ And when the people of the nations heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God. As many as were receptive to eternal life believed.

⁶ You are among those called to Jesus Christ. ⁷ To all who are in Rome, beloved of God and called to be holy ones: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

³⁵ Who will separate us from the love of Christ? ¹¹ When they had not yet been born nor performed anything good or vile, so the purpose of God regarding the choosing would continue without dependence on works but on the One who calls.

²³ In that way he could make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy that he had prepared in advance for glory. ²⁴ We are the ones he has also called, not only from among the Jews, but also from among the nations.

⁹ God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁹ It is written: »Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, and it has not entered into the heart of man, the things God prepared for those who love him.« (Isaiah 64:4)

³ Not only that, but we also rejoice in our tribulations knowing that tribulation produces endurance. ⁴ Tribulation produces an approved condition and an approved condition produces hope. ⁵ Hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts. It comes through Holy Spirit, which is God’s gift to us.

¹⁵ All things are for your sakes, that the grace, being multiplied through the many, may cause the thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. ¹⁶ We do not give up! Though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day. ¹⁷ Our light affliction is for the moment. It works more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory for us.

¹ We know that if our earthly house (human body) (habitation of life) is destroyed; we have a building from God. It is an everlasting house in the heavens, not made with human hands.

⁸ This persuasion did not come from him who calls you.

⁹ He made known to us the secret of his will, according to his good pleasure and purpose. ¹⁰ It was for an administration at the appointed time. This administration is to gather up all things in Christ, the things in heaven, and the things upon the earth. Yes in him! ¹¹ We were assigned as heirs predetermined according to his purpose. He works all things according to his direction and will.

¹¹ This is according to the eternal purpose (determination) (design) (arrangement) that He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹⁵ It pleased God to separate me even from my mother’s womb and call me through his grace.

¹⁹ For I know that this will turn out to my redemption through your prayer and the provision of the spirit (vital principles) (mind) of Jesus Christ. ²⁰ I will not be put to shame according to my earnest expectation and hope. With all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in me, whether by life or by death. ²¹ For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. ²² If I live in the flesh this will bring fruit from my labor. I do not know what to choose. ²³ I am hard pressed between the two. I have the desire to depart and be with Christ for it is far better.

⁹ For God has not appointed us to experience his wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁵ All of this proves that God’s judgment is just, and as a result, you will become worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering. ⁶ It is a righteous thing for God to repay with affliction (great suffering and distress) those who afflict you. ⁷ You who are afflicted rest with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with the angels of his power in flaming fire.

¹³ We always have to thank God for you, brothers. Jehovah loves you and we thank God that in the beginning he chose you to be saved through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. ¹⁴ It was for this he called you through our good news. This is so you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁹ God has saved us and called us with a holy calling. This is not according to our works, but according to his purpose and grace that was granted us in Christ Jesus, from all eternity.

¹⁹ The foundation of God stands firm having this seal: »Jehovah knows those who belong to him,« and: »Everyone who names the name of Jehovah is to abstain from wickedness.«

⁶ »Jehovah disciplines those he loves. In fact he scourges every son (child) he receives.« ⁷ God deals with you like children. Endure discipline (instruction) (training). Who is the child whom a father does not discipline? ⁸ If you are without discipline, you are illegitimate children, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh that corrected us, and we gave them respect. Shall we not much more be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰ They disciplined us for a few days for their own pleasure. He disciplines for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ Now no discipline for the present seems to be joyous. In fact it seems grievous! Nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained. ¹² Lift up the hands that hang down, and the feeble knees.

³ Know that the testing of your faith produces patience (endurance). ⁴ Let patience have its perfect work, that you may be mature, complete, and lacking in nothing.

¹² The man who endures under trial is blessed. For when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life that God promised to those who love him.

⁷ The proof of your faith is more precious than gold that perishes. Though it is tested by fire, it may be found in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. ⁸ You love him without seeing him. Though you do not see him, you believe in him. Full of glory, you rejoice greatly with indescribable joy.

⁵ Listen, my dearly beloved brothers! Did God choose poor people in the world to be rich in faith and to receive the kingdom he promised to those who love him?

¹⁰ After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will perfect, establish, and strengthen you.

¹⁰ In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation (atonement) (sacrificial payment) for our sins.

¹⁹ »'I reprove and discipline those whom I love: be zealous therefore, and repent.

¹⁹ We love, because he first loved us.

² This is how we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do his commandments. ³ For this is the love of God, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.
