⁴ Do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and long-suffering? Do you not know that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

⁶ Jehovah then passed in front of him and called out: »I, Jehovah, am a God who is full of compassion and pity. I am not easily angered and show great love and faithfulness.

¹⁸ »Jehovah is patient, forever loving; He forgives wrongdoing and disobedience. He never lets the guilty go unpunished. In fact he punishes children for their parents’ sins to the third and fourth generation.

¹¹ He says in his heart (to himself): »God has forgotten. He has hidden his face. He will never see it!«

²⁷ »He comes to men and says: ‘I sinned, and perverted what was right, but I did not get what I deserved.’ ²⁸ »He redeemed me from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light. ²⁹ »God does all these things to a man twice, even three times. ³⁰ »He turns him back from the pit that the light of life may shine on him.

³⁸ But he is compassionate. He forgave their sin. He did not destroy them. He restrained his anger many times. He did not display all of his fury.

⁵ You, O Jehovah, are good and forgiving, full of loving kindness toward everyone who calls out to you.

¹⁵ But you, O Jehovah, are a compassionate and merciful God. You are patient, always faithful and ready to forgive.

²⁴ O Jehovah, how many are your works! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your possessions.

³ If You, Jehovah, should record our sins, O Jehovah, who could stand? ⁴ But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be reverenced.

¹¹ Sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly. Therefore the hearts of the sons of men are fully committed to do evil.

¹⁸ Jehovah is waiting to be kind to you. He rises to have compassion on you. Jehovah is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him.

¹² »‘Go and proclaim this message to the north: ‘Come back, unfaithful Israel. It is Jehovah speaking. I will no longer frown on you because I am merciful,’ declares Jehovah. ‘I will no longer be angry with you. ¹³ ‘Admit that you have done wrong! You have rebelled against Jehovah your God. You have given yourself to foreign gods under every large tree. You have not obeyed me,’ says Jehovah.

²² »Return you backsliding children, and I will forgive you for being unfaithful. See, we have come to you because you are Jehovah our God. ²³ »Truly the sound from the hills and mountains is the noise of false worship. Truly Jehovah our God will be our salvation.

¹⁰ »Then come and stand before me in this house. It is called by my name. You say, ‘We are safe to do all these abominations.’

⁷ I will acknowledge Jehovah’s acts of loving-kindness, and sing the praises of Jehovah, because of everything that Jehovah has done for us. He has done many good things for the nation of Israel because of his compassion and the abundance of his loving-kindness. ⁸ He said: They are my people, sons who will not lie to me. So he became their Savior. ⁹ In all their difficulty he was concerned, and he was the messenger who saved them. In his love and compassion he reclaimed (redeemed) them. He always held them and carried them in the past. ¹⁰ But they rebelled and grieved (offended and hurt) his Holy Spirit. So he turned against them as their enemy. He fought against them.

²³ »Therefore say to them: ‘The Lord Jehovah says: ‘I will make this proverb cease so that they will no longer use it as a proverb in Israel. Tell them: ‘The days draw near as well as the fulfillment of every vision.’

⁶³ ‘»I will forgive all the wrongs you have done, but you will remember them and be too ashamed to open your mouth.’ The Lord Jehovah has spoken.«

²² »Son of man, what is this proverb you people have concerning the land of Israel. You say: ‘The days are long and every vision fails?’

⁵ Afterward the children of Israel will return and seek Jehovah their God. David their king will come with trembling to Jehovah and to his goodness in the last days.

² He prayed to Jehovah: »I pray to you, O Jehovah, was this what I said, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hurried to flee to Tarshish. Because I knew that you are a gracious God. You are merciful, slow to anger, abundant in loving kindness, and one who takes pity over calamity (tragedy) (catastrophe) (disaster).

⁴⁸ »But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My lord delays, ⁴⁹ »so I will beat (mistreat) my fellow servants.’ And he eats and drinks with drunkards,

¹⁷ »Finally it dawned on him, my father’s hired workers have more than they can eat and I am about to starve! ¹⁸ »I will go to my father and say: ‘Father I have sinned against God and against you. ¹⁹ »I am not fit to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired workers.’

⁵ When Jesus came to the place he looked up at Zacchaeus and said: »Come down quickly for today I must visit your home.« ⁶ He hurried down to receive him joyfully. ⁷ Many in the crowd complained saying: »He is staying with a man who is a sinner.« ⁸ Zacchaeus stood before Jesus and said: »Lord, I now give half of all my possessions to the poor. If I have defrauded any one I will give back four times the amount taken.«

¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? God forbid!

²² If God decided to show his wrath and make his power known, endured with much long-suffering vessels of wrath fit for destruction. ²³ In that way he could make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy that he had prepared in advance for glory.

¹² For there is no difference between Jew and Greek. The same Lord (God) of all is abounding in riches for all who call on him.

²² Observe both God’s kindness and severity. Severity is for those who fail to continue. But kindness is for you as long as you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you will be cut off.

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments. His ways are beyond human understanding!

²⁵ God displayed Christ publicly as propitiation (atonement) by his blood through faith. It demonstrated his righteousness. It was through the forbearance of God that he passed by the sins that had taken place before.

¹ What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

⁷ In him we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

¹⁸ Have the eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know the hope of his calling, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the holy ones,

⁴ But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us,

⁷ So in the ages to come he, with Christ Jesus, might show the exceeding (surpassing) (exceptional) riches of his grace with kindness toward us.

⁸ To me, the very least of all the holy ones, was given grace (loving divine influence) to preach to the people of the nations the untraceable riches of Christ.

¹⁶ That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man.

¹⁹ My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

²⁷ It was God’s will to make known his secret to the people of the nations, this rich and glorious secret that he has for people. The secret is that Christ is in union with you, which means that you will share in his glory.

² I do this that they may be filled with courage and be united (knit) together in love. I have the full assurance that only true understanding brings. In this way they will accurately know God’s secret, which is Christ himself.

¹⁷ Command those who are rich in this present system not to be high-minded (arrogant), not to have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

¹⁶ For this I obtained mercy, which in me as the foremost sinner Jesus Christ might show his long-suffering. This is for an example to those who should later believe in him for eternal life.

⁴ When the kindness of God our Savior, and his love toward man, appeared, ⁵ not by works done in righteousness, which we did, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration (restoration) (spiritual rebirth) and renewing (renovation) of the Holy Spirit. ⁶ He poured Spirit out upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior.

³ Know this first, that in the last days, mockers will come with mockery, walking after their own lusts,

⁹ Jehovah is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness. He is longsuffering (patient) toward you. He does not wish that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

¹⁵ Consider the patience of our Lord as salvation. Just as our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you.

²⁰ They were disobedient while the ark was being built. Yet God waited patiently in the days of Noah. But few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water.

²⁰ »'Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and dine with him, and he with me.
