⁵ How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in Jehovah his God!

²⁴ Then Jacob was by himself. A man was fighting with him till dawn. ²⁵ The man saw that he was not able to overcome Jacob. He gave him a blow in the hollow part of his thigh, so that his leg was damaged. ²⁶ He said to him: »Let me go now, for the dawn is near.« But Jacob said: »I will not let you go till you have given me your blessing.« ²⁷ Then he asked: »What is your name?« And he said, »Jacob.« ²⁸ The man said: »Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel (He Struggles With God), because you have struggled with God and with men and you have won.« ²⁹ Jacob said: »Please tell me your name.« The man answered: »Why do you ask for my name?« Then he blessed Jacob there.

¹⁷ »‘You are to say to Joseph: »Let the wrongdoing of your brothers be overlooked, and the evil they did to you. If it is your pleasure, forgive the sin of the servants of your father’s God.«’« Upon hearing these words Joseph was overcome with weeping.

⁶ »I am the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.« Moses covered his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

²⁹ »You are blessed O Israel. Who is like you, a people saved by Jehovah? He is the shield of your help and the sword of your majesty! So your enemies will cringe before you and you will tread upon their high places.«

¹² Blessed is the nation who’s God is Jehovah. Happy are the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.

⁵ Lord Jehovah, I put my hope in you. I have trusted in you since I was young.

⁸ Hear my prayer, Lord Jehovah of Hosts. Listen, O God of Jacob!

¹² O Jehovah of Hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

¹⁵ How blessed are the people who are so situated. How blessed are the people whose God is Jehovah!

⁷ »Blessed is the man who trusts in Jehovah, whose refuge and security (confidence and hope) is Jehovah. ⁸ »For he will be like a tree planted by the water. It extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes. Its leaves will be green. It will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit.

²¹ Through him you believe in God. God raised him from the dead, and gave him glory so that your faith and hope are in God.
