²⁹ You hide your face, and they are frightened. You take away their breath, and they die and return to dust.

¹⁹ »You will eat your food by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground. You came from the ground. For dust you are and to dust you will return.«

¹⁷ »‘My anger will be kindled against them in that day. I will abandon them and hide my face from them. They will be consumed by many evils and troubles. They will say in that day: ‘Is it because our God is not among us that these evils have come upon us?’

⁷ By your favor, O Jehovah, you made my mountain to stand strong. You hid your face and I was alarmed (dismayed).

³ You turn men back into dust and say: »Return, O sons of men!«

⁴ His spirit (Hebrew: ruach, breath, life) departs, he returns to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish (come to an end).

⁷ Then the dust will return to the earth as it was. The spirit (life) will return to God who gave it.

²⁵ »Men’s hands do not serve him as if he needed anything. He gives life and breath to all.

²⁰ For the creation was subject to corruption, not by it’s own will but by reason of the one who subjected it on the basis of hope. ²¹ The creation will also be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. ²² For we know that the whole creation groans and is in pain together until now.
