³ A prudent man sees evil and takes refuge. The simple (fool) (inexperienced) keep going and suffers.

²⁰ The ones among the servants of Pharaoh who respected the word of Jehovah made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses. ²¹ He who paid no regard to the word of Jehovah left his servants and his livestock in the field.

⁷ I saw among the simple ones, I discerned among the youth, a young man without understanding.

²² He immediately goes after her. He is like a bull that goes to the slaughter. Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, ²³ Till a dart strikes through his liver. The bird hurries to the snare without knowing it would cost his life.

¹⁶ »Let the inexperienced (naïve) one come in here,« and to the person who lacks understanding she says: ¹⁷ »Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.« ¹⁸ He does not know the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of the grave.

¹⁶ A wise man is cautious and departs from evil. But the fool is arrogant and careless.

¹² A prudent man anticipates evil and hides; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

¹ He who is often reprimanded and hardens his neck will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

²⁰ Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you. Hide yourselves for a little while until his rage has passed by. ²¹ Behold! Jehovah is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose (reveal) the bloodshed upon her. She will conceal her slain no longer.

¹⁵ »When you see the disgusting abomination of desolation (unclean thing) spoken about through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let him that reads understand), ¹⁶ »you in Judea flee to the mountains; ¹⁷ »you on the housetop do not go down to remove the things in your house. ¹⁸ »You in the field do not return to get your clothes.

² For you know perfectly that the »Day of Jehovah« will come like a thief in the night. (Zephaniah 1:14) ³ When they say, »Peace and security!« then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labor pains come to a pregnant woman. They will not escape. ⁴ You do not live in the dark. That day should not overtake you by surprise as a thief would. ⁵ You are all the children (sons) of light, and the children of the day. We are not of the night, not of darkness. ⁶ Therefore, let us not sleep like others do. But let us watch and be sober.

¹⁸ God did this to offer encouragement so we may rely on the hope offered to us. We have taken refuge in that hope and it is impossible for God to lie. These two things can never be changed.

⁷ By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not seen as yet, moved with godly respect. He prepared an ark to save his house. By his faith he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that is according to faith.
