¹² »We took possession of this land. I gave the tribes of Reuben and Gad the land north of Aroer near the Arnon Valley and half of the mountain region of Gilead with its cities. ¹³ »I assigned the rest of Gilead and also all of Bashan, where Og had ruled, that is, the entire Argob region to half the tribe of Manasseh. Bashan was known as the land of the Rephaim. ¹⁴ Jair, from the tribe of Manasseh, took the entire region of Argob, that is, Bashan, as far as the border of Geshur and Maacah. He named the villages after himself, and they are still known as the villages of Jair. ¹⁵ I assigned Gilead to the clan of Machir of the tribe of Manasseh. ¹⁶ »I assigned the territory from Gilead to the Arnon River to the tribes of Reuben and Gad. The middle of the river was their southern boundary, and their northern boundary was the Jabbok River, part of which formed the Ammonite border. ¹⁷ »On the west their territory extended to the Jordan River, from Lake Galilee in the north down to the Dead Sea in the south and to the foot of (Mount) Pisgah on the east. ¹⁸ »Then I gave them the following instructions: ‘Jehovah our God gave you the land east of the Jordan to occupy. Now arm your fighting men and send them across the Jordan ahead of the other tribes of Israel, to help them occupy their land.

²⁰ »‘Help the other Israelites until they occupy the land Jehovah is giving them west of the Jordan and until Jehovah lets them live there in peace, just as he has done here for you. After that, you may return to the land I assigned to you.’

¹⁵ »Your brothers will possess the land Jehovah gave them until Jehovah gives your brothers rest. Then you will return to the land you possess and enjoy it. This is the land Jehovah’s servant Moses gave you on this side of Jordan toward the sunrise (to the east).«

¹⁹ »Whoever goes out of your house into the street will be responsible for his own life. We will be guiltless: and whoever shall be with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand is laid on him.

³⁰ Jehovah delivered it and the king into the hand of Israel. He struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the persons who lived there. He let none remain: and he did to the king of Libnah as he did to the king of Jericho.

⁴² All these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because Jehovah the God of Israel fought for Israel.

²³ So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah said to Moses. Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions, by their tribes. The land rested from war.

⁸ With whom the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them.

²⁹ Moses gave inheritance to the half tribe of Manasseh. This was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by families. ³⁰ Their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities: ³¹ Half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining unto the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families. ³² These are the countries that Moses distributed for inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side Jordan, by Jericho, eastward.

¹ The whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh. They set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. The land was subdued before them.

⁴ »Jehovah your God has given the other Israelites peace as he promised. So go back home to the land you claimed for your own, the land on the east side of the Jordan, that Moses, Jehovah’s servant, gave you.

⁹ So the people of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh went back home. They left the rest of the people of Israel at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and started out for their own land, the land of Gilead, which they had taken as Jehovah commanded them through Moses.

²⁸ When David heard the news, he said: »Jehovah knows that my subjects and I are completely innocent of the murder of Abner.

¹ ([Sons of Korah]) O God, we have heard with our ears and our fathers told us about the work that you did in their days, in the days of old. ² You drove out the nations with your own hand (great power). Then you planted them; you afflicted the peoples and spread them abroad. ³ It was not with their swords that they took possession of the land. They did not gain victory with their own strength. It was your right hand, your arm (power), and the light of your presence that did it, because you were pleased with them. ⁴ You alone are my king, O God. You won those victories for Jacob.

⁵⁵ He drove nations out of their way and gave them the land of the nations as their inheritance. He settled the tribes of Israel in their own tents.
