⁸ All of them conspired to come and launch an attack on Jerusalem, causing trouble there.

¹ Why do the nations conspire together and rage? Why do the peoples plot in vain? ² The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against Jehovah and against his Anointed One. ³ They say: »Let us break their chains of control and throw off their oppressive rule.«

³ They conspire with cunning against your people. They plot against your cherished ones. ⁴ They say: »Come and let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.« ⁵ For they have come to an agreement united in thought. They form an alliance against you. ⁶ The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab, and the Hagrites; ⁷ Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; ⁸ Assyria also is joined with them. They have helped the children of Lot. ⁹ Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon ¹⁰ Who perished at Endor and became as dung for the earth. ¹¹ Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb; yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna.

⁹ Be broken, you people. Be terrified. Listen all you distant parts of the earth. Prepare for battle and be terrified. Prepare for battle and be terrified! ¹⁰ Make plans for battle, but they will never succeed. Give orders, but they will not be carried out, because God is with us!

¹⁰ For I have heard the whispering of many: »Terror on every side! Denounce him; yes, let us denounce him!« All my trusted friends are watching for my fall. They say: »Perhaps he will be deceived, so that we may prevail against him and take our revenge on him.«

¹² When day arrived some of the Jews came together and united with an oath saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul. ¹³ There were more than forty involved in this conspiracy.
