⁵ When Jesus came to the place he looked up at Zacchaeus and said: »Come down quickly for today I must visit your home.«

³ Abraham said: »My Lord, if I have now found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant. ⁴ »Please. Let a little water be brought. Wash your feet and rest under the tree. ⁵ »I will bring a bite to eat to refresh you. Stay a while before you continue your journey.« They responded: »Very well, do as you have said.«

¹ That evening the two angels came to the entrance of the city of Sodom. Lot was sitting there as they arrived. When he saw them, he got up to greet them. Then he welcomed them and bowed low to the ground. ² »My lords,« he said, »come to my home to wash your feet, and be my guests for the night. You may get up in the morning as early as you like and be on your way again.« »Oh no,« they said, »We will spend the night out here in the city square.« ³ Lot insisted, so at last they went home with him. He set a great feast before them, complete with fresh unleavened (unfermented) bread.

² I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when will you come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. ³ I will set no wicked thing before my eyes. I hate the work of unfaithful people. I want no part of it.

⁷ A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her: »Please give me a drink.« ⁸ His disciples went away to the city to buy meat. ⁹ The woman of Samaria asked: »How is it that you being a Jew ask for a drink from me? I am a woman of Samaria.« [The Jews did not associate with Samaritans.] (Not in early manuscripts.) ¹⁰ Jesus answered: »If you know the gift of God and who asked you for a drink, you would have asked him to give you living water.«

²³ Jesus answered: »If a man loves me, he will obey my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and dwell with him.

¹ Working together with him we plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain (to no purpose) (in emptiness).

¹⁷ May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith to the end that you will be rooted and grounded in love.

² Show hospitality to strangers, for some have entertained angels without knowing it.
