¹⁹ »Drought and heat snatch away the snow waters! In the same way the grave takes those who have sinned.

¹⁵ »But my brothers are as undependable as intermittent streams, as the streams that overflow ¹⁶ when darkened by thawing ice and swollen with melting snow, ¹⁷ but that cease to flow in the dry season, and in the heat vanishes from their channels.

¹⁴ Like sheep, they are laid in the grave. Death will shepherd them. The upright will rule them in the morning. Their forms will decay in the grave, far away from their comfortable homes.

⁸ Let them be like a snail that melts and passes away, like the stillborn child, who has not seen the sun. ⁹ Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns, he will sweep away the green and the burning alike.

² As smoke is driven away, drive them away: as wax melts before the fire, let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.

⁴ Whoever is joined to all the living has hope. A living dog is better than a dead lion. ⁵ The living know that they will die! The dead do not know anything. They do not have any more reward. Their memory is forgotten. ⁶ Their love, their hatred, and their envy, is now gone, perished! They do not share anything that is done under the sun.
