⁵ The inhabitants of the earth pollute the earth. They transgress laws and violate statutes. They break the everlasting covenant.

³ Give ear and come to me; listen to me, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

⁸ »For I, Jehovah, love justice. I hate robbery in the burnt offering. Therefore I will faithfully give them their recompense and make an everlasting covenant with them.

He declared righteous the ones he called. He also glorified those he declared righteous. ³¹ What shall we then say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? ³² He that did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, will he not with him freely give us all things? ³³ Who will bring any charge against the ones God has chosen? It is God who justifies (makes righteous). ³⁴ Who is he that condemns? It is Christ that died, yes rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. ³⁵ Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶ It is written: »For your sake we are put to death all day long. We are considered as sheep for the slaughter.« (Psalm 44:22) ³⁷ In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, ³⁹ Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ephesians 6:12)

¹⁴ This way the blessing of Abraham might come upon the nations through Christ Jesus and we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. ¹⁵ Brothers, I speak like a man speaks: Though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been confirmed, no one makes it void, or adds to it. ¹⁶ The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He did not say to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to your seed, which is Christ. ¹⁷ Now this I say: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.

¹ While the promise of entering his rest remains, let us fear that one of you might come up short and not enter.

¹³ When God made a promise to Abraham, he could swear by no one greater then himself, so he swore by himself. ¹⁴ He said: »I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.« ¹⁵ After waiting patiently, Abraham received the promise. ¹⁶ Men swear by someone greater then themselves: and an oath for confirmation to them puts an end to the problem. ¹⁷ When God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he confirmed it with an oath. ¹⁸ God did this to offer encouragement so we may rely on the hope offered to us. We have taken refuge in that hope and it is impossible for God to lie. These two things can never be changed.

²⁴ He continues forever and therefore has his priesthood without change.

²⁰ Now the God of peace, who brought again from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant, even our Lord Jesus,

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above. It comes down from the Father of lights (truth and spiritual purity), with whom there is no variation. He does not change like shifting shadows.
