¹ This is what Jehovah says: »Go to the palace of the king of Judah, and speak this message there:

I have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. » ²¹ The people took from the plunder of the flock the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to Jehovah your God in Gilgal. ²² Samuel said: »What is more pleasing to Jehovah, burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Obeying is better than sacrifice. To pay attention is better than the fat of rams. ²³ »The sin of divination is rebellion. Wickedness and idolatry are arrogance. They are evil. Because you rejected the word of Jehovah, he rejects you as king.«

¹ Jehovah sent Nathan to David. Nathan came to him and said: »There were two men in a certain city. One was rich and the other was poor.

¹¹ When David got up in the morning, Jehovah spoke his word to the prophet Gad, David’s seer. ¹² »Go tell David: ‘This is what Jehovah says: »I offer you three choices. Choose the one you want me to do to you.«’«

² A prophet, Jehu son of Hanani, went to meet the king. He said to him: »Do you think it is right to help those who are wicked and to take the side of those who hate Jehovah? ¹⁵ Jehovah became angry with Amaziah. He sent him a prophet who asked: »Why do you dedicate your life to serving the gods of those people? Those gods could not save their own people from you!« ¹⁶ The king asked him: »Did we make you an adviser to the king? Stop! Do you want me to have you killed?« The prophet stopped. He said: »I know that God has decided to destroy you because you did this. Yet you refuse to listen to my advice.«

¹⁰ Jehovah spoke to Manasseh and his people. But they would not pay attention.

² »This is what Jehovah the God of Israel says: ‘Go to King Zedekiah of Judah, and tell him, Jehovah says: »I am going to hand this city over to the king of Babylon. He will burn it down.

¹¹ »‘Then say to the household of the king of Judah: ‘Hear the word of Jehovah,

¹ »Hear this, O you priests and pay attention, O house of Israel. Give ear (listen)! O house of the king the judgment is about you. You have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread upon Tabor.

¹³ »Do not prophesy any more at Bethel for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a royal house.«

¹⁸ John said to Herod: »It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.«

¹⁹ John reproved Herod the tetrarch for all the evil things he had done for he took his brother Herodias’ wife. ²⁰ He added this also to them all. He locked up John in prison.
