Exodus 13:17

17 »When the king of Egypt let the people go God did not take them on the road that goes up the coast to Philistia, although it was the shortest way. God thought: I do not want the people to change their minds and return to Egypt when they see that they are going to have to fight.«

Exodus 14:2-4

2 »Tell the Israelites to turn back and camp in front of Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the Red Sea, near Baal Zephon. 3 »The king will think that the Israelites are wandering around in the country and are closed in by the desert. 4 »I will make him stubborn. He will pursue you. My victory over the king and his army will bring me honor. Then the Egyptians will know that I am Jehovah!« The Israelites did as they were told.

Joshua 6:2-5

2 Jehovah said to Joshua: »See, I have given into your hand Jericho, and the king there, and the mighty men of valor. 3 »March around the city with all your armed men. Go around the city once per day for six days. 4 »Seven priests will carry before you seven trumpets of rams’ horns along with the Ark. On the seventh day march around the city seven times. The priests shall blow the trumpets. 5 »When you hear a long blast with the ram’s horn, all the people will shout with a great shout. The wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people will go up, every man straight in to the city.«

Judges 7:6-8

6 There were three hundred men who scooped up water in their hands and lapped it. The others got down on their knees to drink. 7 Jehovah said: »I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Use the three hundred men who lapped the water. Tell everyone else to go home.« 8 Gideon sent the Israelites home, except the three hundred. They kept all the supplies and trumpets. The Midianite camp was below them in the valley.

Judges 7:2-8

2 Jehovah said to Gideon: »The men you have are too many for me to give them victory over the Midianites. They might think that they had won by themselves and not give me credit. 3 »Announce to the people: ‘Anyone who is afraid should go back home.’ We will stay here at Mount Gilead. Twenty-two thousand went back, but ten thousand stayed.’« 4 Jehovah said to Gideon: »You still have too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will separate them for you. If I tell you a man should go with you, he will go. If I tell you a man should not go with you, he will not go.« 5 Gideon took the men to the water. Jehovah told him: »Separate everyone who laps up the water with his tongue like a dog, from everyone who gets down on his knees to drink.«

Judges 15:15-16

1 Samuel 17:40-51

40 He took his shepherd’s stick and picked up five smooth stones from the stream and put them in his bag. With his sling ready, he went out to meet Goliath. 41 The Philistine, preceded by the man carrying his shield came closer and closer to David. 42 The Philistine got a good look at David and he despised him. David was only a young man with a healthy complexion and good looks. 43 The Philistine asked David: »Am I a dog that you come to attack me with sticks?« So the Philistine called on his gods to curse David. 44 »Come here,« the Philistine told David, »and I will give your body to the birds.« 45 David answered: »You come out to fight me with a sword and a spear and a dagger. But I come out to fight you in the name of Jehovah of Hosts. He is the Almighty God of Israel’s army. You have insulted him! 46 »Today Jehovah will help me defeat you. I will knock you down and cut off your head! I will feed the bodies of the other Philistine soldiers to the birds and wild animals. Then the whole world will know that Israel has a real God. 47 »Everybody here will see that Jehovah does not need swords or spears to save his people. Jehovah always wins his battles. He will help us defeat you!« 48 Goliath started forward and David ran toward him. 49 He put a rock in his sling and swung the sling around by its straps. When he let go of one strap, the rock flew out and hit Goliath on the forehead. It cracked his skull. He fell facedown on the ground. 50 So David overcame the Philistine with his leather band and a stone. The Philistine was wounded and laying on the ground. But David had no sword in his hand. 51 He ran to him and stood over him. David took Goliath’s sword out of its sheath and cut off his head to kill him. When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead they ran away.

14 Ahab asked: »How will this be done?« The prophet answered: »This is what Jehovah says: ‘By using the young officers of the district governors.« »Who will start the battle?« Ahab asked. »You will,« the prophet answered. 15 Ahab mustered the young officers of the district governors. There were two hundred and thirty-two. After counting them, he counted all the Israelite soldiers. There were seven thousand. 16 In the middle of the day they went out. But Benhadad was drinking in the tents with the thirty-two kings who were helping him. 17 The servants of the chiefs who were over the divisions of the land went forward first. Benhadad sent out a patrol and they told him: »Men have come out from Samaria.« 18 He said: »If they have come out for peace, take them alive and if they have come out for war, take them alive.« 19 So the servants of the chiefs of the divisions of the land went out of the town, with the army following them. 20 Each one killed his opponent. The Syrians (Aramaeans) went in flight with Israel after them. Benhadad the king of Aram got away safely on a horse with his horsemen. 21 The king of Israel took the horses and the war-carriages and caused great destruction among the Syrians. 22 Then the prophet came up to the king of Israel, and said: »Now make yourself strong. Be careful what you do. Otherwise a year from now the king of Aram will come up against you again.«

33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments. His ways are beyond human understanding! 34 For who has known the mind of Jehovah? Or who has been his counselor? (Isaiah 40:13) 35 Or who has first given to him, that it shall be repaid to him again? (Job 41:11) 36 For from him, and through him, and to him are all things: Glory to him forever! Amen.

God chose the weak things of the world to confuse (shame) the things that are mighty. 28 God also chose the base things of the world, and things which are despised, yes, and things which are not, to bring to nothing things that are. 29 No human being should boast before God.
