¹ Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

²¹ for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

¹¹ Woe to those who rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; who stay late into the night, until wine inflames them.

²² Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine, and champions at mixing strong drink;

⁷ They also reel with wine, and stagger with strong drink. The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink. They are swallowed up by wine. They stagger with strong drink. They err in vision. They stumble in judgment. ⁸ For all tables are completely full of filthy vomit and filthiness.

¹⁰ For entangled like thorns, and drunk as with their drink, they are consumed utterly like dry stubble.

⁴⁹ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with the drunkards, ⁵⁰ the lord of that servant will come in a day when he does not expect it, and in an hour when he does not know it,

⁴⁵ But if that servant says in his heart, 'My lord delays his coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunk, ⁴⁶ then the lord of that servant will come in a day when he is not expecting him, and in an hour that he does not know, and will cut him in two, and place his portion with the unfaithful.
