³⁹ Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,

⁴ I also could speak as you do. If your soul were in my soul's place, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you,

⁶ But I am a worm, and no man; scorned by people and despised by the people. ⁷ All those who see me mock me. They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying,

¹⁷ I can count all of my bones. They look and stare at me.

¹¹ Because of all my adversaries I have become utterly contemptible to my neighbors, A fear to my acquaintances. Those who saw me on the street fled from me. ¹² I am forgotten from their hearts like a dead man. I am like broken pottery. ¹³ For I have heard the slander of many, terror on every side, while they conspire together against me, they plot to take away my life.

¹⁵ But in my adversity, they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I did not know it. They tore at me, and did not cease. ¹⁶ When I tripped, they mocked me relentlessly; they gnashed their teeth at me. ¹⁷ Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my soul from their destruction, my precious life from the lions. ¹⁸ I will give you thanks in the great assembly. I will praise you among many people. ¹⁹ Do not let those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; neither let those who hate me without a cause and wink their eyes. ²⁰ For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land. ²¹ Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me. They said, "Aha. Aha. Our eye has seen it."

⁷ Because for your sake I suffer insults. Shame has covered my face. ⁸ I have become a stranger to my brothers, a foreigner to my mother's children. ⁹ For the zeal of your house consumes me. The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. ¹⁰ When I wept and I fasted, it brought me insults. ¹¹ When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them. ¹² Those who sit in the gate talk about me. I am the song of the drunkards.

²⁰ Insults have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; for comforters, but I found none.

² for they have opened the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of deceit against me. They have spoken to me with a lying tongue.

²⁵ I have also become a reproach to them. When they see me, they shake their head.

¹² Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look, and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which is brought on me, with which the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.

¹⁵ All that pass by clap their hands at you, they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, "Is this the city that men called 'The perfection of beauty,' 'The joy of the whole earth'?" ¹⁶ All your enemies have opened wide their mouth against you. They hiss and gnash the teeth; they say, "We have swallowed her up. Certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it." ¹⁷ The LORD has done that which he purposed, he has fulfilled his word that he commanded in the days of old. He has thrown down, and has not pitied. He has caused the enemy to gloat over you and exalted the horn of your adversaries.

²⁹ Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha. You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, ³⁰ save yourself and come down from the cross."

³⁵ The people stood watching. The rulers also scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his Chosen One." ³⁶ The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar, ³⁷ and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself." ³⁸ An inscription was also written above him: "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS." ³⁹ One of the criminals who hung there insulted him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us."

²² who "committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth." ²³ Who, when he was cursed, did not curse back. When he suffered, did not threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously; ²⁴ who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness; by whose wounds you were healed.
