⁴⁶ No one was able to answer him a word, neither did anyone dare ask him any more questions from that day forth.

¹⁵ "They are amazed. They answer no more. They do not have a word to say. ¹⁶ Shall I wait, because they do not speak, because they stand still, and answer no more?

² Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it can't redeem? or have I no power to deliver? Let us stand up together: who is my adversary? Let him come near to me. ⁹ Look, the LORD will help me; who is he who shall condemn me? Look, all they shall wax old as a garment, the moth shall eat them up.

²⁷ They answered Jesus, and said, "We do not know." He also said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

³⁴ When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God." No one dared ask him any question after that.

¹⁷ As he said these things, all his adversaries were disappointed, and all the crowd rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

⁶ But they could make no reply to this.

⁴⁰ They did not dare to ask him any more questions.

⁷ But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her." ⁸ Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground. ⁹ But when they heard it, they went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last, and he was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle.

¹⁴ Seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
