²³ Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who nurse infants in those days. For there will be great distress in the land, and wrath to this people.

⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ and toward her young one who comes out from between her feet, and toward her children whom she shall bear; for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in your gates.

¹⁰ The hands of the compassionate women have cooked their own children; they were their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

⁴¹ They told him, "He will utterly destroy those evil men, and will lease out the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him the fruit in its season."

⁴⁴ He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it will fall, it will crush him."

²⁷ But bring those enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.'"

⁴³ For the days will come on you, when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, surround you, hem you in on every side,

²⁹ For look, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.'

¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to those who are not Jewish that they may be saved; to fill up their sins always. But wrath has come on them to the uttermost.

¹² nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through his own blood, entered in once for all into the Holy Place, having obtained everlasting redemption. ¹³ For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh: ¹⁴ how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our conscience from dead works to serve the living God? ¹⁵ For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, that those who have been called may receive the promise of the everlasting inheritance. ¹⁶ Now where there is a will, the death of the one who made it must be proven. ¹⁷ For a will is in force where there has been death, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives.

²⁶ For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries. ²⁸ Anyone who disregards the Law of Moses dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much worse punishment, do you think, will he be judged worthy of, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know him who said, "Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay." Again, "The Lord will judge his people." ³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

¹⁶ But do not forget to be doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

¹ Come now, you rich, weep and cry aloud for your miseries that are coming on you.

¹⁷ For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins first with us, what will happen to those who do not obey the Good News of God?
