¹ Job again took up his parable, and said, ² "As God lives, who has taken away my right, Shaddai, who has made my soul bitter. ³ (For the length of my life is still in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils); ⁴ surely my lips shall not speak unrighteousness, neither shall my tongue utter deceit. ⁵ Far be it from me that I should justify you. Until I die I will not put away my integrity from me. ⁶ I hold fast to my righteousness, and will not let it go. My conscience will not accuse me as long as I live. ⁷ "Let my enemy be as the wicked. Let him who rises up against me be as the unrighteous. ⁸ For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in Shaddai, and call on God at all times? ¹¹ I will teach you about the hand of God. That which is with Shaddai will I not conceal. ¹² Look, all of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain? ¹³ "This is the portion of a wicked man with God, the heritage of oppressors, which they receive from Shaddai. ¹⁴ If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword. His offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those who remain of him shall be buried in death. His widows shall make no lamentation. ¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay; ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He builds his house as the moth, as a booth which the watchman makes. ¹⁹ He lies down rich, but he shall not do so again. He opens his eyes, and it is gone. ²⁰ Terrors overtake him like waters. A storm steals him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind carries him away, and he departs. It sweeps him out of his place. ²² For it hurls at him, and does not spare, as he flees away from his hand. ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

⁴ I will incline my ear to a proverb. I will open my riddle on the harp.

² I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings since the beginning of the world,

⁷ Like the legs of the lame that hang loose: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

²¹ But truly, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD;

²⁰ She said to them, "Do not call me Naomi. Call me Marah; for Shaddai has dealt very bitterly with me. ²¹ I went out full, and the LORD has brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the LORD has testified against me, and Shaddai has afflicted me?"

¹³ Stay this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform for you the part of a redeemer, well; let him do the redeemer's part. But if he will not do the part of a redeemer for you, then I will do the part of a redeemer for you, as the LORD lives. Lie down until the morning."

³⁹ For, as the LORD lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die." But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.

⁴⁵ The people said to Saul, "Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it. As the LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has worked with God this day." So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.

²¹ Look, I will send the boy, saying, 'Go, find the arrows.' If I tell the boy, 'Look, the arrow is on this side of you. Take it;' then come; for there is peace to you and no hurt, as the LORD lives.

²⁶ Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, since the LORD has withheld you from blood guiltiness, and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now therefore let your enemies, and those who seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.

³⁴ For indeed, as the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, who has withheld me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, surely there wouldn't have been left to Nabal by the morning light so much as one who urinates on a wall."

²⁷ Joab said, "As the LORD lives, if you had not spoken, surely the people would not have given up the pursuit of their brothers until the morning."

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except by my word."

¹⁵ Elijah said, "As the LORD of hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will surely present myself to him today."

²⁷ When she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught hold of his feet. Gehazi came near to thrust her away; but the man of God said, "Leave her alone; for her soul is troubled within her; and the LORD has hidden it from me, and has not told me."

¹⁸ He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile on the counsel of the wicked?

⁵ For Job has said, 'I am righteous, God has taken away my right:

²⁷ Why do you say, Jacob, and why do you assert, Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD, and the justice due me is disregarded by my God?"

² and you shall swear, 'As the LORD lives,' in truth, in justice, and in righteousness. The nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory."

² Though they say, 'As the LORD lives;' surely they swear falsely."

¹⁶ It shall happen, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, "As the LORD lives;" even as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built up in the midst of my people.

¹¹ Tell them, 'As I live,' says the Lord GOD, 'I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn, turn from your evil ways; for why will you die, house of Israel?'

⁷ And God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

⁸ But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of Shaddai gives them understanding.

⁴ The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of Shaddai gives me life.

²² Stop trusting in man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for of what account is he?

²⁵ neither is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things.

²⁸ Now therefore be pleased to look at me, for surely I shall not lie to your face.

⁷ Will you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for him?

⁶ Notwithstanding my right I am considered a liar. My wound is incurable, though I am without disobedience.'

⁵⁵ You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, 'I do not know him,' I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and keep his word.

¹⁰ As the truth of Christ is in me, no one will stop me from this boasting in the regions of Achaia.

¹ If there is a controversy between men, and they come to judgment, and the judges judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked;

⁹ Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold firmly to your integrity? Curse God, and die."

¹⁵ Look, he will kill me. I have no hope. Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him.

¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me. My justice was as a robe and a diadem.

³ Also his wrath was kindled against his three friends, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

⁷ It was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, "My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends; for you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.

¹⁵ He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.

¹² For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we conducted ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

¹¹ But when Cephas came to Antioch, I resisted him to his face, because he stood condemned.

³ The LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil. And he still holds firmly to his integrity, although you incited me against him, to ruin him without cause."

²⁰ The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness. According to the cleanness of my hands has he recompensed me. ²¹ For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. ²² For all his ordinances were before me. I did not put away his statutes from me. ²³ I was also blameless with him. I kept myself from my iniquity.

¹³ Take firm hold of instruction. Do not let her go. Keep her, for she is your life.

¹⁶ This being so, I also do my best to always have a clear conscience toward God and people.

¹¹ I have become foolish. You compelled me, for I ought to have been commended by you, for in nothing was I inferior to the very best apostles, though I am nothing.

²⁰ because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

³² The king said to the Cushite, "Is it well with the young man Absalom?" The Cushite answered, "May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you to do you harm, be as that young man is."

¹⁹ Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered, Belteshazzar, "Do not let the dream, or the interpretation, trouble you." Belteshazzar answered, "My lord, the dream concerns those who hate you, and its interpretation to your adversaries.

¹³ So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man shall perish,

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail. They shall have no way to flee. Their hope shall be the giving up of the spirit."

¹⁶ This also shall be my salvation, that a godless man shall not come before him.

³⁴ For the company of the godless shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, the joy of the godless but for a moment?

³ Is it not calamity for the unrighteous, and disaster for evildoers?

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion are afraid. Trembling has seized the godless ones. Who among us can live with the devouring fire? Who among us can live with everlasting burning? ¹⁵ He who walks righteously, and speaks blamelessly; He who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from looking at evil—

²⁶ For what will it profit a person, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a person give in exchange for his life?

¹³ "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. For you devour the houses of widows, and for show make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

³⁶ For what does it profit a person to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? ³⁷ Or what will a person give in exchange for his soul?

²⁵ For what does it profit a person if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits his own self?

²⁰ "But God said to him, 'You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?' ²¹ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

⁹ But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as plunge people into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹ Come now, you rich, weep and cry aloud for your miseries that are coming on you. ² Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you, and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days.

¹² There they cry, but none gives answer, because of the pride of evil men. ¹³ Surely God will not hear an empty cry, neither will Shaddai regard it.

⁴¹ They cried, but there was none to save; even to the LORD, but he did not answer them.

¹⁸ If I cherished sin in my heart, the Lord wouldn't have listened.

⁷ When he is judged, let him come forth guilty. Let his prayer be turned into sin.

²⁸ Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;

⁹ He who turns away his ear from hearing the Law, even his prayer is an abomination.

¹⁵ When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.

¹¹ Therefore thus says the LORD, 'Look, I will bring disaster on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry to me, but I will not listen to them.

¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence."

¹⁸ therefore I will also deal in wrath; my eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity; and though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them."

¹⁴ They haven't cried to me with their heart, but they wail on their beds. They cut themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me.

⁴ Then they will cry to the LORD, but he will not answer them. Yes, he will hide his face from them at that time, because they made their deeds evil."

¹³ It has come to pass that, as he called, and they refused to listen, so they will call, and I will not listen," said the LORD of hosts;

²⁵ When once the master of the house has risen up, and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside, and to knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, open to us.' then he will answer and tell you, 'I do not know you or where you come from.'

³¹ We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshipper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.

³ You ask, and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.

²⁶ For then you will delight yourself in Shaddai, and shall lift up your face to God. ²⁷ You shall make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You shall pay your vows.

⁴ Also delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

⁴ Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my exceeding joy. I will praise you on the harp, God, my God.

³⁴ When he killed them, then they inquired after him. They returned and sought God earnestly. ³⁵ They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God, their redeemer. ³⁶ But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.

¹⁸ yet I will rejoice in the LORD. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation.

²¹ yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

¹ He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up,

² a devout man, and one who feared God with all his house, who gave gifts for the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God.

¹⁸ with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints:

¹⁷ Pray without ceasing.

⁵ Look, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should do so in the midst of the land where you go in to possess it.

³ Look, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands. ⁴ Your words have supported him who was falling, You have made firm the feeble knees.

¹⁰ Be it still my consolation, yes, let me exult in pain that doesn't spare, that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

⁸ But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of Shaddai gives them understanding. ⁹ It is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice. ¹⁰ Therefore I said, 'Listen to me; I also will show my opinion.'

¹⁷ God, you have taught me from my youth. Until now, I have declared your wondrous works.

¹¹ For the LORD spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,

²⁰ how I did not hold back from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly and from house to house,

²⁵ How forcible are words of uprightness. But your reproof, what does it reprove? ²⁶ Do you intend to reprove words, seeing that the speeches of one who is desperate are as wind? ²⁷ Yes, you would even cast lots for the fatherless, and make merchandise of your friend. ²⁸ Now therefore be pleased to look at me, for surely I shall not lie to your face. ²⁹ Please return. Let there be no injustice. Yes, return again. My cause is righteous.

⁴ But you are forgers of lies. You are all physicians of no value. ⁵ Oh that you would be completely silent. Then you would be wise. ⁶ Hear now my reasoning. Listen to the pleadings of my lips. ⁷ Will you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for him? ⁸ Will you show partiality to him? Will you contend for God? ⁹ Is it good that he should search you out? Or as one deceives a man, will you deceive him?

³ Shall vain words have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?

² Surely there are mockers with me. My eye dwells on their provocation.

² "How long will you torment me, and crush me with words? ³ You have reproached me ten times. You aren't ashamed that you attack me.

³ Allow me, and I also will speak; After I have spoken, mock on.

²⁸ For you say, 'Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?' ²⁹ Haven't you asked wayfaring men? Do you not know their evidences, ³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, That they are led forth to the day of wrath?

² "How have you helped him who is without power. How have you saved the arm that has no strength. ³ How have you counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge. ⁴ To whom have you uttered words? Whose spirit came forth from you?

¹⁴ There is a vanity which is done on the earth, that there are righteous men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked. Again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

¹ For all this I laid to my heart, even to explore all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it is love or hatred, man doesn't know it; all is before them. ² It is the same for all: one event to the righteous and to the wicked, to the good and to the evil, and to the clean and to the unclean, to him who sacrifices, and to him who doesn't sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; he who swears is as he who fears an oath. ³ This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all: yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

²⁰ the wicked man writhes in pain all his days, even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor. ²¹ A sound of terrors is in his ears. In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him. ²² He doesn't believe that he shall return out of darkness. He is waited for by the sword. ²³ He wanders abroad for bread, saying, 'Where is it?' He knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand. ²⁴ Distress and anguish make him afraid. They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle. ²⁵ Because he has stretched out his hand against God, and behaves himself proudly against Shaddai; ²⁶ he runs at him with a stiff neck, with the thick shields of his bucklers; ²⁷ because he has covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat on his thighs. ²⁸ He has lived in desolate cities, in houses which no one inhabited, which were ready to become heaps. ²⁹ He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall their possessions be extended on the earth. ³⁰ He shall not depart out of darkness. The flame shall dry up his branches. By the breath of God's mouth shall he go away. ³¹ Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself; for emptiness shall be his reward. ³² It shall be accomplished before his time. His branch shall not be green. ³³ He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive tree. ³⁴ For the company of the godless shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery. ³⁵ They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. Their heart prepares deceit."

¹⁹ For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor. He has violently taken away a house, and he shall not build it up. ²⁰ "Because he knew no quietness within him, he shall not save anything of that in which he delights. ²¹ There was nothing left that he did not devour, therefore his prosperity shall not endure. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress shall overtake him. The hand of everyone who is in misery shall come on him. ²³ When he is about to fill his belly, he will cast the fierceness of his wrath on him. It will rain on him while he is eating. ²⁴ He shall flee from the iron weapon. The bronze arrow shall strike him through. ²⁵ He draws it forth, and it comes out of his body. Yes, the glittering point comes out of his liver. Terrors are on him. ²⁶ All darkness is laid up for his treasures. An unfanned fire shall devour him. It shall consume that which is left in his tent. ²⁷ The heavens shall reveal his iniquity. The earth shall rise up against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart. They shall rush away in the day of his wrath. ²⁹ This is the portion of a wicked man from God, the heritage appointed to him by God."

⁶ On the wicked he will rain blazing coals; fire, sulfur, and scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.

⁵ "Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise," says the LORD; "I will place in safety the one who longs for it."

²² Do not exploit the poor, because he is poor; and do not crush the needy in court; ²³ for the LORD will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.

¹³ But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he lengthen days like a shadow; because he doesn't fear God.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked. Disaster is upon them; for the work of his hands will be done to him.

⁵ I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and do not fear me," says the LORD of hosts.

⁴ Look, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of hosts. ⁵ You have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts in a day of slaughter. ⁶ You have condemned, you have murdered the righteous one. He does not resist you.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment;

³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people; and your eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day: and there shall be nothing in the power of your hand.

⁴¹ You shall father sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity.

⁵ Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread. Those who were hungry are satisfied. Even the barren has borne seven, and she who has many children languishes.

⁷ You shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel. ⁸ For the whole house of Ahab shall perish. I will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, both him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.

⁶ Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, "If you are on my side, and if you will listen to my voice, take the heads of the men your master's sons, and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time." Now the king's sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who brought them up. ⁷ It happened, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons, and killed them, even seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him to Jezreel. ⁸ A messenger came, and told him, "They have brought the heads of the king's sons." He said, "Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning." ⁹ It happened in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, "You are righteous. Look, I conspired against my master, and killed him; but who struck all these? ¹⁰ Know now that nothing shall fall to the earth of the word of the LORD, which the LORD spoke concerning the house of Ahab. For the LORD has done that which he spoke by his servant Elijah."

¹¹ Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, the multitude of his children, all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the officials and servants of the king.

⁵ The Jews struck all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and with slaughter and destruction, and did what they wanted to those who hated them. ⁶ In the citadel of Shushan, the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men. ⁷ They killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, ⁸ Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, ⁹ Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha, ¹⁰ the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jew's enemy, but they did not lay their hand on the plunder.

²² He doesn't believe that he shall return out of darkness. He is waited for by the sword.

¹⁰ His children shall seek the favor of the poor. His hands shall give back his wealth.

¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock. Their children dance. ¹² They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.

¹³ Let his posterity be cut off. In the generation following let their name be blotted out.

¹³ I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre, planted in a pleasant place; but Ephraim will bring out his children to the murderer. ¹⁴ Give them—LORD what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

²⁹ For look, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.'

¹⁰ therefore, look, I will bring disaster on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam everyone who urinates on a wall, he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel, and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam, as a man sweeps away dung, until it is all gone. ¹¹ He who dies of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and he who dies in the field shall the birds of the sky eat: for the LORD has spoken it."'

³ look, I will utterly sweep away Baasha and his house; and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. ⁴ The dogs will eat Baasha's descendants who die in the city; and he who dies of his in the field the birds of the sky will eat."

²¹ Thus says the LORD, 'Look, I will bring disaster on you, and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab everyone, slave or free in Israel. ²² I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger, and have made Israel to sin.'" ²³ The LORD also spoke of Jezebel, saying, "The dogs shall eat Jezebel in the district of Jezreel. ²⁴ The dogs will eat he who dies of Ahab in the city; and the birds of the sky will eat he who dies in the field."

⁶⁴ Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn't weep.

¹⁸ Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah: "they shall not lament for him, saying, 'Alas my brother. or, Alas sister.' They shall not lament for him, saying, 'Alas lord.' or, 'Alas his majesty.'

²⁷ The king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance.

²⁴ Lay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.

⁶ Won't all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, 'Woe to him who increases that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion. How long?'

³ Tyre built herself a stronghold, and heaped up silver like the dust, and fine gold like the mire of the streets.

¹⁹ "Do not store up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and decay destroy, and where thieves break through and steal;

² Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten.

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.

⁸ He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.

²⁶ For to the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who pleases God. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.

¹⁴ Whose confidence shall break apart, Whose trust is a spider's web. ¹⁵ He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand. He shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.

⁸ The daughter of Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a field of melons, like a besieged city.

¹² My dwelling is removed, and is carried away from me like a shepherd's tent. I have rolled up, like a weaver, my life. He will cut me off from the loom. From day even to night you will make an end of me.

⁸ For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool; but my righteousness shall be forever, and my salvation to all generations."

⁶ He has done violence to his temple, as if it were a vineyard; he has destroyed his place of assembly. The LORD has caused solemn assembly and Sabbath to be forgotten in Zion, and he has spurned in his fierce anger king and priest and prince.

¹⁰ The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the rulerʼs staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. And it is he whom the peoples will obey.

⁸ The eye of him who sees me shall see me no more. Your eyes shall be on me, but I shall not be.

²² Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame. The tent of the wicked shall be no more."

¹⁰ But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?

¹² so man lies down and doesn't rise. Until the heavens are no more, they shall not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep. ¹³ "Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me. ¹⁴ If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my warfare would I wait, until my release should come. ¹⁵ You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire to the work of your hands.

⁷ yet he shall perish forever like his own dung. Those who have seen him shall say, 'Where is he?' ⁸ He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found. Yes, he shall be chased away like a vision of the night. ⁹ The eye which saw him shall see him no more, neither shall his place any more see him.

²³ One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. ²⁴ His pails are full of milk. The marrow of his bones is moistened. ²⁵ Another dies in bitterness of soul, and never tastes of good. ²⁶ They lie down alike in the dust. The worm covers them.

³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, That they are led forth to the day of wrath?

²⁴ They are exalted; yet a little while, and they are gone. Yes, they are brought low, they are taken out of the way as all others, and are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.

²³ For I know that you will bring me to death, To the house appointed for all living.

⁹ Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns, he will sweep away the green and the burning alike.

¹⁹ How they are suddenly destroyed. They are completely swept away with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one wakes up, so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.

² and they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, which they have loved, and which they have served, and after which they have walked, and which they have sought, and which they have worshiped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried, they shall be for dung on the surface of the earth.

¹² His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire."

³⁷ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her. How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not.

²⁹ It happened at midnight, that the LORD struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of livestock.

³⁵ It happened that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, look, these were all dead bodies.

²¹ A sound of terrors is in his ears. In prosperity the destroyer shall come on him.

¹¹ Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall chase him at his heels.

⁸ He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found. Yes, he shall be chased away like a vision of the night.

²³ When he is about to fill his belly, he will cast the fierceness of his wrath on him. It will rain on him while he is eating.

¹⁸ How often is it that they are as stubble before the wind, as chaff that the storm carries away?

¹⁶ who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,

²⁰ In a moment they die, even at midnight. The people are shaken and pass away. The mighty are taken away without a hand.

⁴ The waves of death surrounded me, and the currents of ungodliness overwhelmed me.

⁷ Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your breakers and waves have swept over me.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and do not let me sink. Let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Do not let the flood waters overwhelm me, neither let the deep swallow me up. Do not let the pit shut its mouth on me.

³⁰ In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain.

³ For you threw me into the depths, in the heart of the seas. The flood was all around me. All your breakers and waves passed over me.

²³ Moses stretched forth his rod toward the heavens, and the LORD sent thunder, and hail, and fire fell to the earth. The LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt. ²⁴ So there was very severe hail, and fire mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. ²⁵ The hail struck throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and animal; and the hail struck every plant of the field, and broke every tree of the field.

¹⁰ He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

¹⁵ so pursue them with your tempest, and terrify them with your storm.

¹⁷ I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity."

¹⁵ Though he is fruitful among his brothers, an east wind will come, the breath of the LORD coming up from the wilderness; and his spring will become dry, and his fountain will be dried up. He will plunder the storehouse of treasure.

³ The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. The LORD has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. ⁴ He rebukes the sea, and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers. Bashan languishes, and Carmel; and the flower of Lebanon languishes. ⁵ The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, yes, the world, and all who dwell in it. ⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the fierceness of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken apart by him. ⁷ The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those who take refuge in him. ⁸ But with an overflowing flood, he will make a full end of her place, and will pursue his enemies into darkness.

²⁷ And the rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell—and great was its fall."

¹⁴ For this time I will send all my plagues against your heart, against your officials, and against your people; that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth.

²⁵ He bound their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty. And the Egyptians said, "Let's flee from the face of Israel, for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians." ²⁶ The LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen." ²⁷ Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. The LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. ²⁸ The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh's army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them.

²⁰ God will not be willing to forgive him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy will burn against that man, and every curse that is written in this book shall rest on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven.

²³ "I will heap evils on them. I will spend my arrows on them.

¹¹ And it happened, as they fled from before the children of Israel while they were at the descent of Beth Horon, that the LORD cast down stones from the sky on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than who the children of Israel killed with the sword.

¹⁷ However Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite; for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. ¹⁸ Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, "Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; do not be afraid." He came in to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug. ¹⁹ He said to her, "Please give me a little water to drink; for I am thirsty." She opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him. ²⁰ He said to her, "Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man comes and inquires of you, and says, 'Is there any man here?' that you shall say, 'No.'" ²¹ Then Jael Heber's wife took a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him, and struck the pin into his temples, and it pierced through into the ground; for he was in a deep sleep; so he died.

²⁴ He shall flee from the iron weapon. The bronze arrow shall strike him through.

³ What will you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? Where will you leave your wealth,

¹⁴ I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, says the LORD. I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them."'"

¹¹ "'Therefore as I live,' says the Lord GOD, 'surely, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things, and with all your abominations, therefore I will also diminish you; neither shall my eye spare, and I also will have no pity.

⁵ To the others he said in my hearing, "Go through the city after him, and strike: do not let your eye spare, neither have pity; ⁶ kill utterly the old man, the young man and the virgin, and little children and women; but do not come near any man on whom is the mark: and begin at my sanctuary." Then they began at the old men that were before the house.

¹⁴ I, the LORD, have spoken it: it shall happen, and I will do it: I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to your ways and according to your deeds I will judge you,' says the Lord GOD."

¹⁴ Flight will perish from the swift; and the strong won't strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself;

¹ I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and he said, "Strike the tops of the pillars, that the thresholds may shake; and break them in pieces on the head of all of them; and I will kill the last of them with the sword: there shall not one of them flee away, and there shall not one of them escape. ² Though they dig into Sheol, there my hand will take them; and though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down. ³ Though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out there; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and it will bite them.

³² He who did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things?

⁴ For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them down to the lower parts of hell, and committed them to chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; ⁵ and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a proclaimer of righteousness, when he brought a flood on the world of the ungodly;

⁸ And this house, which is exalted, will become a heap of ruins. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished, and will whistle, and they will say, 'Why has the LORD done this to this land, and to this house?'

²² as the days in which the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned to them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending presents of food to one another, and gifts to the needy. ²³ The Jews accepted the custom that they had begun, as Mordecai had written to them; ²⁴ because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast "Pur," that is the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them; ²⁵ but when this became known to the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he had devised against the Jews, should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

¹⁰ When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices. When the wicked perish, there is shouting.

⁸ I will make this city an astonishment, and a hissing; everyone who passes thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.

¹⁵ All that pass by clap their hands at you, they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, "Is this the city that men called 'The perfection of beauty,' 'The joy of the whole earth'?"

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you walk in their counsels. Therefore I will make you a desolation, and her inhabitants an object of contempt; and you will bear the scorn of the nations."

¹⁵ This is the joyous city that lived carelessly, that said in her heart, "I am, and there is none besides me." How she has become a desolation, a place for animals to lie down in. Everyone who passes by her will hiss, and shake their fists.

²⁰ "Rejoice over her, O heaven, you saints, apostles, and prophets; for God has judged your judgment on her."
