³ But Judah spoke to him, saying, "The man strictly warned us, saying, 'You may not see my face unless your brother is with you.'

¹⁵ This is how you will be tested. By the life of Pharaoh, you will not leave from here until your youngest brother comes here. ¹⁶ Send one of you, and let him get your brother, and you will stay in prison, so that your words can be tested, whether there is truth in you. Or else, by the life of Pharaoh, surely you are spies." ¹⁷ So he put all of them together in prison for three days. ¹⁸ Then Joseph said to them the third day, "Do what I say, and live, for I fear God. ¹⁹ If you are honest, then let one of your brothers remain confined in your prison; but you go and carry grain for the hunger of your households. ²⁰ But bring your youngest brother to me so that your words will be verified, and you wonʼt die." To this they agreed.

³³ The man, the lord of the country, said to us, x91By this I will know that you are honest men: leave one of your brothers with me, and take grain for the hunger of your households, and go your way. ³⁴ Bring your youngest brother to me. Then I will know that you are not spies, but that you are honest men. So I will deliver your brother to you, and you may travel in the land.'"

²³ But you said to your servants, 'Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, you will not see my face again.'

¹³ He said, "Good. I will make a covenant with you, but one thing I require of you. That is, you shall not see my face unless you first bring Mikal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see my face."

²⁴ The king said, "Let him return to his own house, but let him not see my face." So Absalom returned to his own house, and did not see the king's face.

²⁸ Absalom lived two full years in Jerusalem; and he did not see the king's face.

³² Absalom answered Joab, "Look, I sent to you, saying, 'Come here, that I may send you to the king, to say, "Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still. Now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there is iniquity in me, let him kill me."'"

³⁴ I have surely seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard their groaning. I have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you to Egypt.'
