⁶ Rachel said, "God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son." Therefore she called his name Dan.

³² Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Reuben. For she said, "Because God has looked at my affliction, and given me a son. For now my husband will love me." ³³ She conceived again, and bore a son, and said, "Because God has heard that I am unloved, he has therefore given me this son also." So she named him Simeon. ³⁴ She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, "Now this time my husband will become attached to me, since I have given him three sons." Therefore he was named Levi. ³⁵ She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, "This time will I praise the LORD." Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.

²⁵ And the sons of Bilhah, Rachelʼs servant: Dan and Naphtali.

¹⁶ Dan will judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel. ¹⁷ Dan will be a serpent on the road, a viper by the path, that bites the horseʼs heels so that his rider falls backward.

²² Of Dan he said, "Dan is a lion's cub that leaps out of Bashan."

²⁴ Vindicate me, LORD my God, according to your righteousness. Do not let them gloat over me.

Will you indeed be to me as a deceitful brook, as waters that fail?" ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the LORD, "If you return, then will I bring you again, that you may stand before me; and if you take forth the precious from the vile, you shall be as my mouth: they shall return to you, but you shall not return to them. ²⁰ I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall; and they shall fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you; for I am with you to save you and to deliver you," says the LORD.
