¹² One Ananias, a devout man according to the Law, well reported of by all the Jews who lived in Damascus,

²⁵ And look, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.

³ Therefore select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

² Devout men buried Stephen, and lamented greatly over him.

¹⁰ Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias." And he said, "Look, it's me, Lord." ¹¹ The Lord said to him, "Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus. For look, he is praying, ¹² and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in, and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight." ¹³ But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he did to your saints at Jerusalem. ¹⁴ Here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name." ¹⁵ But the Lord said to him, "Go your way, for he is my chosen vessel to bear my name before the nations and kings, and the children of Israel. ¹⁶ For I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name's sake." ¹⁷ Ananias departed, and entered into the house. Laying his hands on him, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me, that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit." ¹⁸ Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he received his sight. He arose and was baptized.

²² They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say."

⁴ Some of them were persuaded, and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the prominent women.

⁸ by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true;

⁷ Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into disgrace and the trap of the devil.

² For by this, the people of old were attested.

¹² Demetrius has the testimony of all, and of the truth itself; yes, we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.
