¹⁷ Charge those who are rich in this present world that they not be haughty, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy;

² Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

¹⁰ It shall be, when the LORD your God shall bring you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you, great and goodly cities, which you did not build, ¹¹ and houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, and cisterns dug out, which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees, which you did not plant, and you shall eat and be full; ¹² then beware lest you forget the LORD, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

¹⁷ and lest you say in your heart, "My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth."

¹⁵ with the finest produce of the ancient mountains, and the abundance of the everlasting hills,

¹⁶ But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, so that he did corruptly, and he trespassed against the LORD his God; for he went into the LORD's temple to burn incense on the altar of incense.

²⁵ But Hezekiah did not render again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem. ²⁶ Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turning away from evil. ² There were born to him seven sons and three daughters. ³ His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.

²⁴ "If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, 'You are my confidence;' ²⁵ If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

³ For the wicked boasts of his heart's cravings, and he blesses the greedy, scorning the LORD. ⁴ The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek. All his thoughts are "There is no God."

⁷ "Look, this is the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and was confident in his desire."

⁸ Trust in him at all times, O people. Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us. Selah.

¹⁰ Do not trust in oppression. Do not become vain in robbery. If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

⁵ They are free from burdens of men, neither are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck. Violence covers them like a garment. ⁷ Their sin proceeds forth from fatness. Their hearts overflow with imaginations. ⁸ They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression. ⁹ They have set their mouth in the heavens. Their tongue walks through the earth.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and a shield. The LORD will give grace and glory. He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly. ¹² LORD of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

²⁸ You give to them; they gather. You open your hand; they are satisfied with good.

⁸ It is better to take refuge in the LORD, than to put confidence in man. ⁹ It is better to take refuge in the LORD, than to put confidence in princes.

²⁸ He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.

⁵ Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.

²⁴ for riches are not forever, nor does even the crown endure to all generations.

⁹ lest I be full, deny you, and say, 'Who is the LORD?' or lest I be poor, and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

¹³ There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth kept by its owner to his harm. ¹⁴ Those riches perish by misfortune, and if he has fathered a son, there is nothing in his hand.

¹⁸ Look, that which I have seen to be good and proper is for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labor, in which he labors under the sun, all the days of his life which God has given him; for this is his portion. ¹⁹ Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God.

³¹ Generation, consider the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of thick darkness? Why do my people say, 'We have broken loose. We will come to you no more?'

²³ Thus says the LORD, "Do not let the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, do not let the rich man glory in his riches; ²⁴ but let him who boasts boast in this, that he has understanding, and knows me, that I am the LORD who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight," says the LORD.

⁷ Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose confidence is in the LORD. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, who spreads out its roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat comes, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

⁴⁹ "'Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ They were haughty, and committed abomination before me. So I took them away, as you have seen.

⁵⁶ For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride,

³⁰ The king spoke and said, "Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?"

¹⁹ And because of the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he would he killed, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he raised up, and whom he would he put down. ²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was removed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him. ²¹ And he was driven from the sons of men, and his mind was made like the animals', and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky; until he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and that he sets up over it whomever he wants. ²² You his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this, ²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your secondary wives, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know. And the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.

⁶ According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted. Therefore they have forgotten me.

¹⁵ He takes up all of them with the hook, and he catches them in his net and gathers them in his dragnet. Therefore he rejoices and is glad. ¹⁶ Therefore he sacrifices to his net, and burns incense to his dragnet, because by them his life is luxurious, and his food is good.

³² For the unbelievers seek after all these things, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

²³ Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I say to you, it is difficult for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven.

⁵⁷ When evening had come, a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself was also Jesus' disciple came.

²⁴ The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God.

¹⁵ He said to them, "Beware. Keep yourselves from all covetousness, for a man's life does not consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses." ¹⁶ He spoke a parable to them, saying, "The ground of a certain rich man brought forth abundantly. ¹⁷ He reasoned within himself, saying, 'What will I do, because I do not have room to store my crops?' ¹⁸ He said, 'This is what I will do. I will pull down my barns, and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. ¹⁹ I will tell my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, be merry."' ²⁰ "But God said to him, 'You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?' ²¹ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

² And look, there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.

⁹ Jesus said to him, "Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham. ¹⁰ For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost."

¹⁷ Yet he did not leave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you rains from the sky and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness."

²⁷ When they had arrived, and had gathered the church together, they reported all the things that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the nations.

²⁵ neither is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things.

²⁰ True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear;

⁵ Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, that is, an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to God.

⁹ For they themselves report concerning us what kind of a reception we had from you; and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God,

³ As I urged you when I was going into Macedonia, stay at Ephesus that you might command certain people not to teach a different doctrine,

¹⁵ but if I wait long, that you may know how people ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

¹⁰ For to this end we both labor and strive, because we have set our trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

²¹ I command you in the sight of God, and Christ Jesus, and the chosen angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.

¹³ I command you before God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate testified the good confession,

¹⁰ for Demas left me, having loved this present world, and went to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.

¹² instructing us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age;

⁶ whom he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior;

⁹ But let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position; ¹⁰ and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.

⁶ Return to her just as she returned, and repay her double as she did, and according to her works. In the cup which she mixed, mix to her double. ⁷ However much she glorified herself, and grew wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning. For she says in her heart, 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and will in no way see mourning.'
