²³ The LORD will render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; because the LORD delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn't put forth my hand against the LORD's anointed.

⁶ He said to his men, "The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the LORD's anointed, to put forth my hand against him, since he is the LORD's anointed." ⁷ So David restrained his men with these words and did not allow them to rise against Saul. ⁸ The LORD administers judgment to the peoples. Judge me, LORD, according to my righteousness, and to my integrity that is in me. ⁹ Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. The righteous God tests hearts and minds.

²⁰ The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness. According to the cleanness of my hands has he recompensed me. ²¹ For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. ²² For all his ordinances were before me. I did not put away his statutes from me. ²³ I was also blameless with him. I kept myself from my iniquity. ²⁴ Therefore the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight. ²⁵ With the faithful you show yourself faithful. With the innocent you show yourself innocent. ²⁶ With the pure you show yourself pure. And with the crooked you show yourself tortuous.

¹² Also to you, Lord, belongs loving kindness, for you reward every man according to his work.
