¹⁵ All the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they offered sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

⁵ He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to God.

¹⁹ But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, "No; but we will have a king over us,

⁸ "You shall go down before me to Gilgal; and look, I will come down to you, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: you shall wait seven days, until I come to you, and show you what you shall do."

¹⁷ Samuel called the people together to the LORD to Mizpah;

¹³ Now therefore see the king whom you have chosen, and whom you have asked for: and look, the LORD has set a king over you. ¹⁴ If you will fear the LORD, and serve him, and listen to his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, and both you and also the king who reigns over you are followers of the LORD your God, then he will rescue you. ¹⁵ But if you will not listen to the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then the hand of the LORD will be against you, and against your king to destroy you.

¹⁷ Isn't it wheat harvest today? I will call to the LORD, that he may send thunder and rain; and you shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking for a king."

²¹ They sacrificed sacrifices to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings to the LORD, on the next day after that day, even one thousand bulls, one thousand rams, and one thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel, ²² and ate and drink before the LORD on that day with great gladness. They made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and they anointed him to the LORD to be prince, and Zadok to be priest. ²³ Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him. ²⁴ And all the leaders, the mighty men, and also all of the sons of king David submitted themselves to Solomon the king.

¹⁰ Where is your king now, that he may save you in all your cities? And your judges, of whom you said, 'Give me a king and princes?' ¹¹ I have given you a king in my anger, and have taken him away in my wrath.

¹⁶ But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.
