⁹ And on hearing what he said, they went away one by one, beginning with the older men, till Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.

¹ Meanwhile as the crowd was gathering in its thousands till they trod on one another, he proceeded to say to his disciples first of all, "Be on your guard against the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy, ² Nothing is hidden that shall not be revealed, or concealed that shall not be made known. ³ So all you utter in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you whisper in chambers will be proclaimed on the housetops,

¹⁷ As he said this, all his opponents were put to shame, but all the crowd rejoiced over all his splendid doings.

² Early in the morning he returned to the temple, the people all came to him, and he sat down and taught them.
