¹³ Well is hym that findeth wysdome, and opteyneth vnderstandinge,

¹ And the quene of Saba hearde of the wysdome of Salomon concernyng the name of the Lord, and came to proue hym wyth rydelles. ² And she came to Ierusalem wyth a myghtye great multitude of Camels that bare swete odoures and goulde exceding much, & precious stones. And when she was come to Salomon, she communed wyth hym of all that was in her hert. ³ And Salomon expounded her all her questions, that there was not one thynge hyd from the kynge which he expounded her not. ⁴ And when the quene of Saba had sene all Salomons wysdome, & the house that he had buylt, ⁵ & the meate of hys table, & the syttynge of hys seruauntes, and the standynge of hys seruytours & their apparell, & his buttelers, & hys sacrifyce that he offered in the house of the Lord, she was astonyed. ⁶ Then she said to the kynge: the worde I hearde in myne owne land of thy dedes and wysdome, is true. ⁷ How be it I beleued it not, tyll I came and sawe it wyth myne eyes. And se, the one halfe was not told me: for thy wysdome and goodnesse exceadeth the fame which I hearde. ⁸ Happy are thy men: and happye are these thy seruauntes, whiche stande euer before the, and heare thy wysdom. ⁹ And blessed be the Lorde thy God which had a luste to the, to set the on the seate of Israell, because the Lorde loued Israel for euer, and therfore made the kynge, to do equite & ryghtuousnesse.

²³ And so kynge Salomon exceaded all the kynges of the earthe in rychesse and wysdome. ²⁴ And all the worlde resorted to Salomon, to heare his wysdome, which God had put in hys herte.

⁴ if thou sekest after her as after money, & dyggest for her as for treasure:

⁵ Get the wysdome, get the vnderstanding forget not the wordes of my mouth, & shrinke not from them. ⁶ Forsake her not, she shall preserue the: loue her, and she shal kepe the. ⁷ The chyefe poynte of wisdom is, that thou be willing to optayne wysdome, and before all thy goodes to gett the vnderstandynge. ⁸ Make muche of her and she shall promote the: Yea if thou embrace her, she shall brynge the vnto honoure. ⁹ She shall make the a gracyous head, and garnyshe the wyth a crowne of glorye.

³² Therfore herken vnto me, O ye chyldren, for blessed are they that kepe my wayes. ³³ O geue eare vnto nurtour, be wyse, and refuse it not. ³⁴ Blessed is the man that heareth me, watchynge dayly at my gates, & geuynge attendaunce at the postes of my dores. ³⁵ For who so findeth me, findeth life and shall obtayne fauour of the Lorde.

¹ Who so hath pleasure to sow dyscorde, pyketh a quarel in euery thyng.

¹⁵ And in the cytye there was founde a poore man (but he was wyse) which with hys wisdome deliuered the cytye: yet was there no body, that had any respect vnto such a symple man. ¹⁶ Then sayde I: wysdome is better then strengthe. Neuertheles, a simple mans wysedome is despised, & his wordes are not herde. ¹⁷ A wyse mans counsayl that is folowed in silence, is farre aboue the cryeng of a captayne among fooles. ¹⁸ For wysdome is better then harnesse: but one vnthryft alone destroyeth much good.
