¹³ He that hydeth hys synnes, shall not prospere: but who so knowledgeth them and forsaketh them shal haue mercy.

¹² And Adam answered: The woman whych thou gauest to bere me company she toke me of the tree, and I ate. ¹³ And the Lorde God sayd vnto the woman: Wherfore dydest thou so? And the woman answered: The serpent deceyued me and I ate.

⁹ And the Lorde sayd vnto Cayn: where is Abel thy brother? And he sayde: I can not tell, am I my brothers keper?

¹⁶ Then Pharao, called for Moses & Aaron in haste & sayed: I haue synned agaynste the Lord your God and against you. ¹⁷ Forgyue me yet my sinne only thys once, & pray vnto the Lord your God that he may take away from me thys death onely.

⁴⁰ And they shall confesse theyr misdeades and the mysdeades of theyr fathers in theyr trespaces, which they haue trespaced agaynst me, & for that also that they haue walked contrary to me. ⁴¹ Therfore I also wyl walke contrarye vnto them, and wyl brynge theym into the lande of theyr enemies. And then at the least waye theyr vncircumcised hertes shalbe tamed, & then they shall make an atonement for theyr mysdeades. ⁴² And I wyl remembre my bond with Iacob, and my testament wyth Isaac, and my testament wyth Abraham, and wyll thynke on the lande.

¹³ And when Samuel was come to Saule, Saule sayde vnto hym: Blessed be thou in the Lorde. I haue done the commaundemente of the Lorde.

²⁴ Then sayde Saul to Samuel: I haue sinned, for I haue trespaced the mouthe of the Lorde, and thy wordes, because I feared the people and obeyed theyr voyce.

³⁰ Then he sayd: I haue synned. But yet honoure me before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turne agayne wyth me, that I maye praye vnto the Lorde thy God.

⁴⁷ yet yf they turne agayne vnto their hertes in the lande where they be in captiuite, and returne and praye vnto the in the lande of them that holde them captiue, sayinge: we haue synned & haue done wyckedlye & haue trespaced, ⁴⁸ & so turne agayne vnto the with all their hertes and all their soules in the land of their enemyes which holde them captyue, and praye vnto the, towarde the land which thou gauest vnto their fathers, & towarde the cytie which thou hast chosen, and house which I haue buylt for thy name: ⁴⁹ then heare thou their prayer & supplicacion vp to heauen thy dwellyng place, & iudge their causes,

³³ Haue I euer done any wicked dede where thorow I shamed my selfe before men: or any abhominacion, that I was fayne to hyde it?

²⁷ Suche a respecte hath he vnto men. Therfore let a man confesse (and saye) I offended, but he hath chastened and reformed me: I dyd vnryghteouslye, neuerthelesse he hath not recompensed me thereafter.

³ For while I helde my tonge my bones consumed awaye thorowe my daylye complaynynges. ⁴ And because thy hand was so heuy vpon me both daye and nyght, my moysture was lyke the drouth in Sommer. Selah. ⁵ Therfore I confessed my sinne vnto the & hyd not myne vnryghtuousnes. I sayde: I wyll knowledge myne offence and accuse my selfe vnto the Lord, & so thou forgauest me the wickednesse of my synne Selah.

¹ To the chaunter, a Psalme of Dauid, when the prophet Nathan came vnto hym, after he was gone into Bethsabe. Haue mercy vpon me (O God) after thy goodnes, & according vnto thy great mercyes, do awaye myne offences. ² Wash me well fro my wickednesse, and clense me fro my synne. ³ For I knowledge my fautes, & my synne is euer before me. ⁴ Agaynst the only, agaynst the haue I sinned, & done euel in thy sight: that thou mightest be iustified in thy saynges, and shouldest ouercome when thou art iudged. ⁵ Beholde, I was borne in wickednesse, & in synne hath my mother conceyued me.

¹⁰ Make me a cleane hert, O God, & renue a right sprete within me.

¹² Euyll wyll stereth vp strife, but loue couereth the multytude of synnes.

⁹ Who so couereth another mans offence seketh loue: but he that discloseth the faut setteth frends at variance.

²² Yea, & that so sore: that thoughe thou wasshe the with Nitrus, and make thy self to fauoure with that swete smelling herbe of Borith: yet in my sight thou art stayned with thy wyckednesse, sayeth the Lorde thy God. ²³ Saye not now: I am not vncleane, and I haue not folowed the Goddes. Loke vpon thyne owne wayes in the woddes, valleyes and dennes, so shalt thou knowe, what thou hast done. Thou art lyke a swyft Dromedary, that goeth easely in his waye:

¹² and therfore go preache these wordes towarde the North, and saye: Thou shrenkinge Israel, turne agayne (sayeth the Lord) and I wyll not turne my face from you, for I am mercyfull, sayeth the Lorde, and I will not alwaye beare displeasure agaynste the: ¹³ but on this condicion, that thou knowe thy greate blasphemy: Namely, that thou haste vnfaithful forsaken the Lorde thy God, and hast made thy selfe partaker of straung goddes vnder all grene trees, but hast had no wil to heare my voyce, sayeth the Lorde.

²⁰ As I was yet speakinge at my prayers, knoweledginge myne owne sinnes, and the synnes of my people, makinge so mine intercession before the Lorde my God, for the holye hils sake of my God: ²¹ yea, whyle I was yet speakinge in my prayer, beholde the man Gabrel (whome I had sene afore in the vision) came flying to me, and touched me about the offeringe time in the eueninge. ²² He infourmed me, and spake vnto me: O Daniel sayde he, I am now come to make the vnderstande it: ²³ For as sone as thou begannest to make thy prayer, it was so diuised, and therfore am I come to shewe the. And why? For thou arte a man greatly beloued. Wherfore, pondre the matter well, that thou mayest learne, to vnderstande the vision.

⁶ & were baptised of him in Iorden, confessing their sinnes. ⁷ When he sawe many of the Phariseis & of the Saduces come to his baptisme, he sayd vnto them: O generacion of vipers, who hath taught you to fle from the vengaunce to come? ⁸ Bringe forth therfore the frutes belonging to repentaunce. ⁹ And se that ye once thinke not to saye in your selues, we haue Abraham to our father. For I say vnto you, that God is able of these stones rayse vp children vnto Abraham. ¹⁰ Euen now is the axe put vnto the rote of the trees: so that euerye tre which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewen doun & cast into the fire.

²⁵ Wo be to you Scribes and Pharises hypocrites, which make cleane the vtter side of the cuppe, & of the platter: but within they are ful of bribery and excesse. ²⁶ Thou blynd Pharisei, clense first the ynneside of the cup & platter, that the outside of them may be clene also. ²⁷ Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrytes, for ye are lyke vnto paynted tombes, whiche appeare beautifull outwarde, but are within full of dead bones and of all filthines. ²⁸ So are ye, for outwarde ye apeare righteouse vnto men, when within, ye are full of hypocresie and iniquitie.

⁴ saying: I haue synned betrayinge the innocent bloud. And they sayde: what is that to vs? Se thou to that. ⁵ And he caste doune the syluer plates in the temple, and departed, and wente, and honge hym selfe.

¹⁸ I wyll aryse, and go to my father, and will say vnto hym: father I haue synned agaynst heauen and before the, ¹⁹ and am no more worthye to be called thy sonne, make me as one of thy hyred seruauntes. ²⁰ And he arose and wente to his father. And when he was yet a great way of, hys father sawe hym, and had compassyon and ran and fell on hys necke, & kyssed hym. ²¹ And the sonne sayed vnto him: father, I haue synned agaynst heauen in thy syghte, & am no more worthy to be called thy sonne. ²² But hys father sayed to hys seruauntes: brynge forthe that beste garmentes, & put it on hym, and put a rynge on hys hande, & showes on hys fete. ²³ And brynge hyther the fatted caulfe and kyll hym, and let vs eate and be merye: ²⁴ for thys my sonne was dead, and is alyue agayne, he was lost and is nowe founde. And they beganne to be mery.

²⁰ but shewed fyrst vnto them of Damasco, and at Hierusalem and through out all the coastes of Iewry, and to the gentyls, that they should repent, & tourne to God, and do the ryght workes of repentaunce.

⁸ If we saye that we haue no sinne, we deceiue oure selues, and trueth is not in vs. ⁹ If we knowledge oure sinnes, he is faythfull and iust, to forgeue vs our sinnes, and to clense vs from al vnrightuousnes. ¹⁰ If we say we haue not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in vs.
