¹³ Who so stoppeth hys eare at the cryenge of the pore he shal cry him selfe and not be herd

⁷ When one of thy brethren among you is waxed poore in any of thy cityes within thy land whych the Lord thy God geueth the, se that thou harden not thyne hert nor shet to thine hand from thy poore brother: ⁸ But open thyne hand vnto him & lende hym suffitiente for hys nede whych he hath. ⁹ And beware that there be not a poynt of Belial in thine hert, that thou wouldest say. The seuenth yere, the yere of fredome is at hand, & therfore it greues the to loke on thy poore brother and geuest hym nought & he then cry vnto the Lord againste the, and it be synne vnto the: ¹⁰ But giue him & let it not greue thine herte to giue. Bycause that for that thinge, the Lorde thy God shall blesse the in all thy workes & in all that thou puttest thyne hand to. ¹¹ For the land shall neuer be wythout pore. Wherfore I commaund the saying: open thine hand vnto thy brother that is neady and pore in thy land.

¹ And there arose a greate complaynte of the people, and of theyr wyues agaynst their brethren the Iewes. ² And there were some that sayde: oure sonnes and doughters are to manye, let vs take corne for them and eate, that we maye lyue. ³ Some sayde: let vs set oure landes, vyneyardes and houses to pledge, and take vp corne in the darth. ⁴ But some sayde: let vs borowe money of the kynges trybute for oure landes and vyneyardes. ⁵ Now are oure brethrens bodyes as oure owne bodyes and their children as oure chyldren: els shoulde we subdue oure sonnes and doughters vnto bondage, & some of oure doughters are subdued already, and no strength is there in oure handes, and other men shall haue oure landes and vyneyardes.

¹³ And I shoke my lappe, and sayde: God shake oute euerye man after the same maner from hys house and laboure, that maynteyneth not thys worde: euen thus be he shaken oute, and voyde. And all the congregacyon sayde: Amen, and praysed the Lorde. And the people dyd so.

⁴¹ They cryed, but there was none to helpe them: yea euen vnto the Lorde, but he heard them not.

⁴ They are as furyous as the serpent, euen lyke the deaf Ader that stoppeth her eares.

²⁸ Then shal they call vpon me, but I will not heare: they shal seke me early, but thei shal not find me:

²⁷ He that geueth vnto the poore, shall not wante: but he that turneth awaye hys eyes from suche as be in necessytye, shal suffer greate pouertye hym selfe.

¹⁵ Though ye holde oute your handes, yet turne I myne eyes from you. And though ye make manye prayers, yet heare I nothynge at all, for youre handes are full of bloude. ¹⁶ Washe you, make you cleane, put awaye youre euill thoughtes out of my sighte, cease from doynge of euyll and vyolence. ¹⁷ Lerne to do right, applye youre selues to equite, delyuer the oppressed, helpe the fatherlesse to hys ryght, let the wyddowes complaynte come before you.

⁶ But this fastyng pleaseth not me, til the tyme be thou louse him out of bondage, that is in thy daunger: that thou breake the ooth of wicked barginnes, that thou let the oppressed go fre and take from them all maner of burthens. ⁷ It pleaseth not me, tyll thou deale thy breade to the hungry, and brynge the poore fatherlesse home into thy house, when thou seyste the naked that thou couer him, and hyde not thy face from thyne owne fleshe. ⁸ Then shall thy lighte breake forthe as the morninge, and thy healthe floryshe ryghte shortlie: thy righteousnesse shall go before the, and the glorye of the Lorde shall embrace the. ⁹ Then yf thou callest, the Lorde shall answere the: yf thou cryest, he shall saye: here I am. Yea, yf thou layest awaie thy burthens, and holdest thy fingers, and ceasest from blasphemous talkinge,

¹⁶ But yet ye haue turned your selues agayne, and blasphemed my name. In this, that euery man hath required hys seruaunte and handmayden againe whom ye had let go quite and fre, and compelled them to serue you agayne, and to be youre bondmen. ¹⁷ And therfore thus sayeth the lord: ye haue not obeyed me, euery man to proclame fredom vnto his brother and neighbour: wherfore I wil call you vnto a fredome, sayeth the Lorde, euen vnto the swerde, to the pestilence, & to honger, & will make you to be plaged in all the kingedomes of the earthe.

⁹ Thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes: Execute true iudgement: shew mercy & louinge kindnesse, euery man to his brother. ¹⁰ Do the widdow, the fatherlesse, the straunger, and poore no wronge: and let no man ymagen euil against his brother in his hert. ¹¹ Neuertheles they would not take hede, but turned their backes, & stopped their eares, that they should not heare: ¹² yea, they made their hertes as an Adamant stone, least they should hear the law & wordes, whiche the Lorde of hostes sent in his holy spirite by the Prophetes afore tyme. Wherfore the Lorde of hostes was verye wroth at them. ¹³ And thus it is come to passe, that like as he spake, & they woulde not hear: euen so they cryed, and I woulde not heare, (sayeth the Lord of hostes)

¹⁴ For and if ye shall forgeue other men their trespases, your heauenlye father shall also forgeue you.

² For as ye iudge so, shall ye be iudged. And with what measur ye meate, with the same shal it be measured to you agayne.

³⁰ But he woulde not, but wente and cast hym into pryson till he shoulde pay the det. ³¹ When hys other felowes sawe what was done, they were very sory, and came and told vnto theyr Lord all that had happened. ³² Then his Lorde called hym, and sayde vnto hym. O euill seruaunt I forgaue the al that det, because thou praiest me: ³³ was it not mete also that thou shouldest haue had compassion on thy felow, euen as I had pitie on the? ³⁴ And his lord was wroth and deliuered him to the iaylers, til he should paye all that was due to hym. ³⁵ So likewyse shal my heauenly father do vnto you except ye forgeue with your hertes, eache one to hys brother theyr trespasses.

⁴¹ Then shall the kinge saye vnto them that shalbe on the lyfte hande. Departe from me ye cursed, into euerlastinge fyre, which is prepared for the deuyll and hys angels. ⁴² For I was an hungred and ye gaue me no meate, I thyrsted and ye gaue me no drynke, ⁴³ I was herbourles, and ye lodged me not, I was naked and ye clothed me not, I was sicke and in pryson, and ye vysited me not. ⁴⁴ Then shal they answere him, sayinge: mayster when sawe we the an hungred, or a thyrst or herbourles, or naked, or sicke, or in pryson, and dyd not minister vnto the. ⁴⁵ Then shall he answere them, and saye: Verelye I saye vnto you, in as much as ye dyd it not to one of these little ones: ye dyd it not vnto me. ⁴⁶ And these shall go into euerlasting payne. And the righteouse into lyfe eternall.

²⁵ When the good man of the house is rysen vp, and hathe shut to the dore, ye shall begynne to stande without, and to knocke at the dore, saiynge: Lorde Lorde open to vs: and he shall aunswere and saye vnto you: I knowe you not whence ye are.

⁵⁷ Then they gaue a shut wyth a loude voice, and stopped their eares, and ranne vpon hym al at once,

¹³ For there shalbe iudgemente mercyles to hym, that sheweth no mercy, & mercy reioyseth against iudgemente. ¹⁴ What auayleth it my brethren, thoughe a man saye he hath faythe, when he hath no deedes? Can fayth saue hym? ¹⁵ If a brother or a sister be naked or destitute of dayly fode, ¹⁶ and one of you saye vnto them: Departe in peace, God sende you warmnes and fode: not wyth standynge ye geue them not those thynges which are nedefull to the bodye: what helpeth it them?
