¹⁷ To take hede vnto the chastenyng of nurtoure, is the way of lyfe: but he that refuseth to be refourmed, goeth wrong.

¹⁶ And as the prophet spake to him, he sayde to the prohhete: haue men made the of the kynges councell? cease, leste thou be beaten. And the prophete ceased and sayde: I am sure that God hath taken councell to destroye the, because thou hast done this, and obeyest not my councell.

²⁵ but all my counsayls haue ye despysed, & set my corrections at naught. ²⁶ Therfore shall I also laugh in your destruccion, & mocke you, when the thyng that ye feare cometh vpon you:

³⁰ but abhorred my counsail, & despised my correction.

¹ O my sonne, forget not my law but se that thyne hert kepe my commaundementes. ² For they shall prolong the dayes & yeares of thy life, & bring the peace.

¹⁸ She is a tree of lyfe to them that laye holde vpon her, and blessed are they that kepe her fast.

⁴ he taughte me also, saiyng: Let thyne herte receaue my wordes, kepe my commaundementes, and thou shalt lyue.

¹³ Take fast holde of doctryne, let her not go: kepe her, for she is thy lyfe.

¹² and then say: Alas why hated I nourtoure? why dyd my herte despys correction.

²³ For the commaundement is a lanterne, and the lawe a lyghtie, a chastening, and nurtour is the waye of lyfe:

¹ Who so loueth wysdome, wil be content to be refourmed: but he that hateth to be reproued, is a foole.

¹⁰ He that forsaketh the ryghte strete, shalbe sore punyshed: and who so hateth correccyon, falleth into death.

¹⁷ My sonne, bow down thine eare, and herken vnto the wordes of wysdome, applye thy mynde vnto my doctryne: ¹⁸ for it is a plesaunt thyng if thou kepe it in thyne hert, and practise it in thy mouth: ¹⁹ that thou mayest alwaye put thy truste in the Lorde.

¹ He that is styfnecked and wyll not be refourmed, shal sodenly be destroied without any helpe

⁶ Vse not thy mouth to cause thy flesh for to synne, that thou say not before the aungell: my foolishnesse is in the faute. For then God will be angry at thy voyce, & destroye all the workes of thyne handes.

²⁴ Whosoeuer heareth of me these sayinges and doethe the same, I wyll lyken hym vnto a wyse man which buylt hys housse on a rocke ²⁵ and aboundaunce of rayne descended, and the flouddes came, and the windes blew and bet vpon that same housse, and it fell not because it was grounded on the rocke. ²⁶ And whosoeuer heareth of me these sayinges and doeth them not, shalbe lykened vnto a folyshe man whyche buylt hys housse vpon the sande ²⁷ and abundance of rayne descended, and the floudes came, and the wyndes blewe and bet vpon that housse, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

²⁸ But he sayde: Yea, happye are they that heare the worde of God, and kepe it.

¹ Wherfor we ought to geue the more heede to the thynges which we haue heard, lest we perishe.

²⁵ Se that ye despyse not hym, that speaketh. For yf they escaped not whiche refused hym, that spake on earth: muche more shall we not escape, yf we turne awaye from hym that speaketh from heauen:

⁵ And herunto geue al diligence, in youre fayth, mynyster vertue, and in vertue knowledge, ⁶ and in knowledge temperancie, and in temperauncie, pacience, in pacience, Godlynes, ⁷ in Godlines brotherly kyndnes, in brotherlye kindnes, loue. ⁸ For yf these thinges be amonge you and are plenteous, they wyll make you, that ye neyther shalbe ydle nor vnfruteful in the knowledge of oure Lord Iesu Christe. ⁹ But he that lacketh these thinges, is blind and gropeth for the waye with his hand, and hath forgotten that he was pourged from his olde synnes. ¹⁰ Wherfore brethren, geue the more diligence for to make your callinge and eleccion sure. For if ye do suche thinges, ye shal neuer erre. ¹¹ Yea and by this meanes an entringe in, shalbe minystred vnto you aboundantlye into the euerlastinge kingdome of oure Lorde and sauiour Iesus Christ.
