¹⁰ I and my brethren, and my seruauntes haue lente them moneye and corne: but as for vsury, let vs leaue it.

²⁵ If thou lende money to any of my people that is poore by the, thou shalte not be as an vsurer vnto him, nether shalt oppresse him wt vsurye. ²⁶ If thou take thy neyghboures rayment to pledge, that thou delyuer it vnto him agayne by that the sunne go downe. ²⁷ For that is hys couerlet onely: euen the raymente for his skynne wherein he slepeth: or els he wyll crye vnto me and I wyl heare him, for I am mercyfull.

⁷ and I aduysed so in my mynde, that I rebuked the councelers, and the rulers, and sayde vnto them: wyll ye requyre vsury one of another? And I brought a greate congregacion against them

⁵ He that geueth not his money vpon vsury, and taketh no rewarde agaynste the innocent. Who so doth these thinges, shall neuer be remoued.

⁸ he lendeth nothinge vpon vsury: he taketh nothinge ouer: he wythdraweth his hand from doynge wronge: he handleth faythfully betwixte man & man:

¹³ he lendeth vpon vsury, & taketh moreouer. Shall thys man lyue? He shall not lyue. Seynge he hath done all these abhomynacions, he shall dye, hys bloude shalbe vpon him.

¹ O wo vnto them, that Imagyn to do harme, & deuyse vngracyousnesse vpon their beddes, to perfourme it in the cleare daye: for there power is agaynst God.

¹³ And he sayde vnto them: require nomore then that which is appointed vnto you. ¹⁴ The souldioures lykewyse demaunded of him saiynge: and what shall we do? And he sayde to them: Do violence to no man: neither trouble any man wrongfullye: but be content with your wages.

¹² Yf other be partakers of this power ouer you: wherfore are not we rather? Neuerthelesse we haue not vsed thys power but suffer all thinges leste we shoulde hinder the Gospell of Christe ¹³ Do ye not vnderstande howe that they whiche minister in the temple, haue their fyndynge of the temple? And they whych wayte at the aulter, are partakers of the aulter? ¹⁴ Euen so also dyd the Lord ordaine, that they which preach the Gospel, shoulde lyue of the Gospell. ¹⁵ But I haue vsed none of these thinges. Neither wrote I these thinges, that it should be so done vnto me. For it were better for me to dye, then that anye shoulde take this reioysinge from me. ¹⁶ In that I preache the Gospel, I haue nothinge to reioyce of. For necessytye is put vnto me. Wo is it vnto me yf I preach not the Gospel. ¹⁷ Yf I do it wyth a good wil, I haue a rewarde. But yf I do it against my wyl, an offyce is committed vnto me. ¹⁸ What is my reward then? Verelye, that when I preache the Gospell, I make the Gospell of Christ fre, that I misuse not myne authoryte in the Gospell.

¹¹ Seynge then that we know, how the Lorde is to be feared, we fare fayre with men. For we are knowen well ynoughe vnto God. I truste also that we are knowen in your consciences.

²⁰ Nowe then are we messengers in the roume of Christ: euen as thoughe God dyd beseche you thorowe vs: So praye we you in Christes stede, that ye be atone with God,

¹ We as healpers therfore exhorte you, that ye receyue not the grace of God in vayne.

⁸ Wherfore though I be bolde in Christe to enioyne the, that whiche becommeth the: ⁹ yet for loues sake I rather beseche the, thoughe I be as I am euen Paule aged, and now in bondes for Iesu Christes sake.
