⁶⁶ And as Peter was beneth in the pallayce, there came one of the wenches of the hyest priest,

⁵⁸ And Peter folowed him a farre of vnto the hye priestes palayce: and went in and sat with the seruauntes, to se the ende.

⁶⁹ Peter sate without in the palayce. And a damsell came to him saying: Thou also wast with Iesus of Galile: ⁷⁰ but he denyed before them al sayinge: I wote not what thou sayst. ⁷¹ When he was gone oute into the poorche, another wenche sawe hym, and sayde vnto them that were there. Thys felowe was also with Iesus of Nazareth, ⁷² and agayne he denyed with an oth that he knew not the man. ⁷³ And after a whyle came vnto hym they that stode by & sayde vnto Peter: surely thou art euen one of them, for thy speache bewrayeth the. ⁷⁴ Then beganne he to corse and to sweare that he knew not the man. And immediatly the cocke crewe. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembred the wordes of Iesu whiche sayed vnto hym: before the cocke crowe, thou shalt deny me thryse. And went out at the dores and wept bitterlye.

⁵⁴ And Peter folowed him a great waye of euen into the pallaice of the hye priest, and sat with the seruauntes, and warmed hym self at the fyre.

⁵⁵ When they had kindled a fyre in the myddes of the palaice, and were set doune together: Peter also sate doune amonge them: ⁵⁶ And one of the wenches, behelde hym as he sate by the fyre and set good eye syght on him and sayde: this same was also with him. ⁵⁷ Then he denyed hym saiynge: woman I knowe him not. ⁵⁸ And after a lytle while another sawe him and said: thou arte also of them. And Peter sayed: man I am not. ⁵⁹ And about the space of an houre after, another affyrmed saiynge: verelye euen this felowe was with him, for he is of Galile, ⁶⁰ and Peter sayed: man I wote not what thou sayest. And immediatlye whyle he yet spake, that cocke crewe. ⁶¹ And the Lorde tourned backe and loked vpon Peter. And Peter remembred the wordes of the Lorde, howe he sayed vnto him, before the cocke crowe, thou shalt denye me thryse. ⁶² And Peter wente out, and wepte betterlye.

¹⁵ And Simon Peter folowed Iesus, & another disciple: that disciple was knowne of the hye prieste, and went in with Iesus into the palayce of the hye prieste. ¹⁶ But Peter stode at the dore without. Then went oute that other disciple whiche was knowne vnto the hye prieste, and spake to the damsell that kepte the dore, & brought in Peter. ¹⁷ Then sayed the damsel that kepte the dore, vnto Peter: Arte not thou one of thys mans disciples? He sayed: I am not. ¹⁸ The seruauntes and the ministers stode there and had made a fyre of coles, for it was colde, and they warmed them selues. Peter also stode amonge them, and warmed hym selfe.

²⁵ Symon Peter stode and warmed him self and they sayed vnto hym: arte not thou also one of hys discyples? He denyed it, and sayde: I am not. ²⁶ One of the hye priestes seruauntes (hys cosin whose eare Peter smote of) sayde vnto him: dyd not I se the in the garden with him? ²⁷ Peter denyed agayne, and immediatlye the cocke crewe.
