⁶ He put forth this similitude: A certayne man had a fygge tree planted in hys vyneyarde, & he came and sought frute theron, and founde none.

⁸ Thou hast broughte a vyneyarde oute of Egypte, thou diddest cast out the Heathen, & planted it. ⁹ Thou madest rowme for it, and caused it to take rote, so that it fylled the lande. ¹⁰ The hylles were couered with the shadow of it, and so were the stronge Cedre trees wt the bowes therof. ¹¹ She stretched out her braunches vnto the sea, and her bowes vnto the water. ¹² Why haste thou then broken doune her hedge, that all they whiche go by, plucke of her grapes? ¹³ Then wylde bore out of the wood hath roted it vp, and the beastes of the felde haue deuoured it.

¹ Nowe wel then, I wyl syng my beloued frende a songe of hys vyneyarde. My beloued frende hath a vyneyard in a very frutefull plenteous grounde. ² This he hedged, this he walled rounde about, & planted with goodly grapes. In the myddest of it buylded he a toure, & made a wyne presse therein. And afterwarde when he loked that it shulde bringe him grapes, it broughte forthe thornes. ³ I shewe you nowe my cause (O ye Cytesens of Ierusalem & whole Iuda:) Iudge I praye you betwixte me, & my vyneyarde. ⁴ What more coulde haue bene done for it, that I haue not done? Wherfore then hath it geuen thornes, where I loked to haue had grapes of it?

²¹ where as I planted the out of noble grapes & good rotes. How art thou turned then into a bitter, vnfrutefull, and straunge grape?

¹⁹ and spyed a fygge tree in the waye, and came to it, and found nothynge thereon, but leaues onely, and sayed to it, neuer frute growe on the hence forwardes. And anone the figge tre wyddered away ²⁰ And when hys disciples sawe that, they marueyled sayinge: How sone is the fygge tree wyddered awaye?

³⁴ And when the tyme of the frute drewe neare, he sente hys seruauntes to the husbandmen to receyue the fruytes of it. ³⁵ And the husbandmen caughte hys seruauntes and bet one, kylled another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Agayne he sent other seruauntes, mo then the fyrste, and they serued them lykewyse. ³⁷ But last of all, he sent vnto them hys owne sonne, sayinge: they wyll feare my sonne. ³⁸ But when the husbandmen sawe the sonne, they sayde amonge them selues. Thys is the heyre: come let vs kyll hym, and let vs take hys enheritaunce to oure selues. ³⁹ And they caughte hym and thruste him out of the vyneyard, and slewe hym. ⁴⁰ When the Lorde of the vyneyard cometh, what wyll he do with those husbandmen?

¹² And on the morowe when they were come oute from Bethany, he hungred, ¹³ and spied a fygge tree a farre of hauing leaues: and wente to se whether he myghte fynde any thynge theron. But when he came therto, he founde nothyng but leaues: for the tyme of fygges was not yet. ¹⁴ And Iesus aunswered & sayd to it: neuer man eate frute of the here after whyle the world standeth. And hys discyples hearde it.

¹⁰ And when the tyme was come, he sente a seruaunt to hys tenauntes that they shoulde geue hym of the fruytes of the vyneyarde. And the tenauntes dyd beate hym, & sent him awaye empty. ¹¹ And agayne he sent yet another seruaunt. And they dyd beate him, & foule entreated hym also, & sent hym awaye emptye. ¹² Moreouer, he sent the third to, & hym they wounded, and cast out. ¹³ Then sayde the Lorde of the vineyarde: what shall I do? I wil sende my deare sonne, hym peraduenture they wyll reuerence, when they se hym. ¹⁴ But when the fermers sawe hym, they thoughte in them selues sayinge: thys is the hyre, come let vs kyl him, that the inheritaunce maye be oures.

¹⁶ Ye haue not chosen me, but I haue chosen you and ordeyned you, that ye go & bringe forth frute, and that your frute remayne, and that whatsoeuer ye shall axe of the father in my name, he shoulde geue it to you.

²² But the frute of the spiryte, is loue, ioye peace, longe sufferynge, gentylnes, goodnes, faithfulnes,

¹⁷ not that I desire gyftes, but I desire aboundaunte frute on youre part.
