²³ Then put awaye, sayde he the straung Goddes which are among you, and bowe your hertes vnto the Lorde God of Israell.

² Then sayd Iacob vnto hys houshold & to all that were with him, put away the straunge Goddes that are amonge you, and make your selues cleane, and chaunge your garmentes, ³ and let vs arise and go vp to Bethel, that I may make an aulter there vnto God, whyche hearde me in the day of my tribulation and was wyth me in the waye whyche I wente. ⁴ And they gaue vnto Iacob all the straunge Gods whych were vnder theyr handes, & al theyr earynges which were in theyr eares, & Iacob hid them vnder an oke at Sichem.

²³ Ye shal not make therfore with me goddes of syluer nor goddes of golde: in no wise shal ye do it.

¹⁴ And nowe feare the Lorde and serue hym in purenesse and truthe: And put awaye the Goddes which youre fathers serued on the other syde of the floude, and in Egypt, & serue the Lorde.

¹⁵ But the chyldren of Israel sayde vnto the Lorde we haue synned: do thou vnto vs whatsoeuer please the, & delyuer vs onelye at thys tyme. ¹⁶ And they put awaye the straunge Goddes from them, and serued the Lorde. And the myserye of Israel greued hys soule.

³ And Samuel spake vnto al Israel, saying: yf ye become agayne vnto the Lorde wyth al youre hertes, then put awaye the straunge Goddes from among you, & Astharoth, & prepare your hertes vnto the Lorde, & serue hym alone, & so shal he rydde you out of the handes of the Philistines. ⁴ And then the chyldren of Israel, did put awaye Baalim and Astaroth, & serued the Lorde onelye.

⁵⁸ neyther leue vs, but that he bowe oure hertes vnto him, to walcke in all hys wayes, and to kepe hys commaundementes, ordinaunces and customes whiche he commaunded oure fathers.

³⁶ Enclyne myne herte vnto thy testymonies, and not to couetousnes.

⁴ O let not myne herte be enclyned to any euell thyng, to be mynded as the vngodly or wicked men, lest I eate of suche thynges as please them.

² that thyne eare may herken vnto wisdome, applie thyne hert then to vnderstanding.

² Take these wordes with you, when ye turne to the Lorde, & saye vnto him: O forgeue vs all our sinnes, receyue vs gracyouslye, and then wyl we offre the bullockes of oure lyppes vnto the. ³ Assur shalbe no more oure helper, nether wyl we ryde vpon horses any more. As for the worckes of our handes, we wil no more cal vpon them: For it is thou that arte oure God, thou shewest euer mercye vnto the fatherlesse.

⁸ O Ephraim what haue I to do wt Idols anye more? I wyll graciously heare him, and lede hym forthe. I will be vnto the as a grene Fyrre tre, vpon me shalt thou find thy trute.

¹⁹ What saye I then? that the Image is any thinge? or that it whiche is offered to Images is anye thinge? ²⁰ Naye, but I saye, that these thinges, whiche the Gentyles offer, they offer to deuyls, and not to God. And I woulde not that ye should haue felloushippe wt the deuyls. ²¹ Ye can not drinke of the cuppe of the Lorde: and of the cuppe of the deuils. Ye can not be partakers of the Lordes table, and of the table of the deuils.

¹⁶ Howe agreeth the temple of God with Images. And ye are the temple of that lyuynge God, as sayed God. I wyll dwell amonge them, and walke among them, and wyll be theyr God, and they shall be my people. ¹⁷ Wherfore come out from among them, and separate youre selues (sayeth the Lorde) and touche none vncleane thynge: so wyll I receyue you, ¹⁸ and wyll be a father vnto you, and ye shall be vnto me sonnes and doughters, sayth the Lorde almyghtye.

²⁸ Wherfore yf we receyue a kingdom which is not moued, we haue grace, wherby we may serue God, and please hym wyth reuerence & Godly feare. ²⁹ For our God is a consumynge fyre.
