⁶ Yea, a myghtye and an innumerable people shal come vp into my lande: these haue teeth lyke the teethe of Lyons, and chaftbones lyke the lyonesses.

³⁴ A frutefull lande maketh he baren, for the wickednesse of them that dwell therin.

¹⁴ This peoples teth are swerdes, and with their chafte bones they consume and deuour the simple of the earth, and the poore from among men.

²⁵ The Emmettes are but a weake people, yet gather they their meate together in the haruest. ²⁶ The Conyes are but a feble folke, yet make they their couches amonge the rockes. ²⁷ The greshoppers haue not a gyde, yet go thei forth together by heapes.

⁸ And shall breake in vpon Iuda, increasyng in power, tyll he get him by the throte. He shal fyl also the wydenesse of thy lande with hys broade wynges, O Emanuell.

¹³ My peoples felde shall brynge thornes & thystels for in euerye house is voluptuousnes, and in the cytyes, wylfulnes.

³ They will not dwell in the Lordes lande, but Ephraim turneth agayne into Egypte, and eateth vncleane thinges amonge the Assirians.

² a darcke daye, a gloomynge daye, a cloudye daye, yea & a stormy daye, lyke as the mornynge spredeth oute vpon the hylles: Namely, a great and myghtye people; suche as haue not bene sence the begynnynge, neither shal be after them for euer more. ³ Before hym shall be a consumynge fyre, and behynde him a burnyng flamme. The land shal be as a garden of pleasure before him, but behynde hym shall it be a very waste wyldernes, and there is no man, that shall escape hym. ⁴ They are to loke vpon lyke barded horses, and runne lyke horse men. ⁵ They skyppe vp vpon the hylles, as it were the sounde of charettes, as the flamme of fyre that consumeth the strawe, and as a myghtye people ready to the battell. ⁶ The folcke shalbe afrayed of hym, all faces shalbe as blacke as a pot. ⁷ These shal runne lyke gyauntes, and leape ouer the walles lyke men of warre. Euerye man in hys goynge shall kepe hys araye, and not go oute of hys Path. ⁸ There shall not one dryue another, but eche shall kepe hys owne waye. They shall breake in at the wyndowes, and not be hurte. ⁹ They shall come into the cytye, and runne vpon the walles: They shal clymme vp vpon the houses, & slyppe in at the wyndowes lyke a thefe. ¹⁰ The earth shall quake before him, yea, the heauens shalbe moued: The sunne & moue shall be darckened, and the starres shal wythdraw theyr shyne, ¹¹ The Lorde shall shewe his voyce before hys hoste, for hys hoste is greate, strong and myghtye to fulfyll hys commaundement. This is that greate and merueylous fearefull daye of the Lorde: And who is able to abyde it.

²⁵ And as for the yeares that the greshopper, locuste, blastynge, & caterpyller (my greate hoste, whiche I sente amonge you) haue eaten vp, I shal restore them to you agayne,

⁷ And the similitude of the locustes was lyke vnto horsses prepared vnto battayl, and on theyr heades were as it were crounes, lyke vnto gold and their faces were as it had bene the faces of men. ⁸ And they had heere as the heere of women. And theyr teeth were as the teeth of Lyons. ⁹ And they had habbergions, as it were habbergyons of Iron. And the sounde of theyr wynges, was as the sounde of charettes, when many horsses runne together to battayle. ¹⁰ And they had tayles lyke vnto Scorpyons, and there were stynges in theyr tayles. And their power was to hurte men fyue monethes.
