¹ Neuertheles Bell shall fall, and Nabo shalbe broken: whose ymages are a burthen for the beastes and cattell, to ouerlade them, and to make them weery.

¹² for I wyl go aboute in the lande of Egypte thys same nyght, and wyl smyte al the fyrste borne in the lande of Egypte, both of man & beast, and vpon all the Goddes of Egypte wyl I the Lorde do execution.

³ And when they of Asdod were vp in the morning, behold, Dagon lay grouelynge vpon the earthe before the arcke of the Lorde. And they toke Dagon & set him in his place agayne.

²⁰ Then then, shall man caste awaye hys Goddes of syluer and golde (whiche he neuerthelesse had made to honoure them) vnto Moles and Backes:

⁹ Wyth that came there one rydinge vpon a charet, whyche answered, and sayde: Babilon is fallen, she is turned vp syde doune and al the ymages of her Godes are smytten to the grounde.

⁶ Euery man hath exorted hys neyghboure, and brother, and bydden him be stronge. ⁷ The Smyth conforted the moulder, and the Ironsmyth the hammerman, sayenge: It shalbe good, that we fasten this cast worcke: and then they fastened it with nayles, that it shulde not be moued.

⁵ It standeth as styfe as the palmetree, it can not neyther speake nor go, but must be borne. Be not ye afrayed of suche, for they can do neyther good nor euill.

¹ Thus sayeth the Lorde of hostes the God of Israel agaynste Moab: wo be to the cytie of Nabo, for it shal be layed waste, broughte to confusyon & taken. Yea thy stronge cytye of Kariathiarim shalbe brought to shame, and afrayd: ² Moab shall no more be had in honoure: Wycked councell shalbe taken vpon Hesebon. Come (shall they saye) let vs rote them oute, that they maye be no more amonge the nombre of the Gentyles, yea that they maye no more be thought vpon: Thus the swearde shall persecute the: ³ A voyce shall crye from Horonaim: Wyth greate wastynge and destruccyon, ⁴ is Moab made desolate. And this crye shalbe hearde in all her cytyes. ⁵ At the goynge vp vnto Luithe there shall aryse a lamentacyon: & doune towarde Horonaim, there shall be hearde a cruell & a deadly crye: ⁶ Get you away, saue youre lyues, and be lyke vnto the heath in the wyldernes. ⁷ For because thou haste trusted in thy stronge holdes and treasure, thou shalte be taken Chamos wyth hys priestes and prynces shall go awaye into captiuite. ⁸ The destroyer shall come vpon all cytyes, none shall escape. The valeys shalbe destroyed, and the feldes shall be layed waste: lyke as the Lorde hath determed. ⁹ Make a token vnto Moab, that she get her awaye spedelye: for her cytyes shalbe made so desolate, that no man shall dwell there in. ¹⁰ Cursed be he that doth the worcke of the Lorde negligentlye, and cursed be he that kepeth backe hys swearde from sheddynge of bloude. ¹¹ Moab hath euer bene ryche and carelesse from her youth vp, she hath sytten and taken her ease wyth her treasure. She was neuer yet put oute of one vessell into another (that is) she neuer wente awaye into captiuite, therfore her taste remayneth, and her sauoure is not yet chaunged. ¹² But lo, the tyme cometh, sayeth the Lorde that I shall sende her trussers to trusse her vp, to prepare & season her vessels: yea her tanckerdes rattell, and shake to and fro. ¹³ And Moab shalbe ashamed of Chamos, lyke as Israel was ashamed of Bethell, wherein she put her truste. ¹⁴ Wherfore do ye thincke thus: we are mightye, and stronge men of warre? ¹⁵ Moab shall be destroyed, and her cities brente vp: her chosen yong men shall be slayne, sayeth the king, whose name is the Lorde of Hostes. ¹⁶ The destruccyon of Moab commeth on a pace, and her fall is at hande. ¹⁷ All her neyghbours shall mourne for her, and all they that knowe her name, shall saye: O howe happeneth it, that the stronge staf & the goodlye rode is thus broken? ¹⁸ And thou doughter Dibon, come doune from thy glorye, and sit in pouerte. For he that destroyeth Moab, shall come vp to the also, & breake doune thy stronge holdes. ¹⁹ And thou that dwelleste in Aroer, get the to the strete, and loke aboute the: aske them that are fled and escaped, and saye: what thinge is happened? ²⁰ O, Moab is confounded and ouercome. Mourne, and crye, tel it oute at Arnon, that Moab is destroyed. ²¹ And myserye shall come vpon the playne lande: Namely, vpon Holon & Iahazah: vpon Mephaath ²² and Dibon vpon Nabo & the house of Deblathaim, ²³ vpon Cariathiarim and Bethgamul, vpon Bethmaon ²⁴ & Carioth, vpon Bozrah and all the cytyes in the lande of Moab, whether they lye farre or neare. ²⁵ The horne of Moab shall be smitten doune and her arme broken, sayeth the Lorde.

² preache amonge the Gentiles, let youre voyce be hearde, make a token: crye oute, kepe no sylence but saye: Babylon shall be wonne, Bel shalbe confounded, & Merodach shalbe ouercome. Yea their Goddes shalbe brought to shame, and theyr ymages shall stande in feare.

⁴⁴ Moreouer, I wyll vyset Bell at Babylon: and the thynge that he hath swalowed vp, that same shall I plucke out of hys mouth. The Gentyles also shall runne nomore vnto hym, yee and the walles of Babylon shall fall.

⁴⁷ And lo, the tyme commeth that I wyll vyset the ymages of Babylon, and the whole lande shalde confounded, yee and her slayne shall lye in the myddest of her.

⁵² Wherfore beholde (sayeth the Lorde) the tyme commeth, that I will vyset the ymages of Babylon, and thorow the whole lande they shall mourne and fall.
