⁵ And whan the Lord saw that the wekednesse of man was encreased vpon the erth, & that al the ymaginacion & thoughtes of his hert was only euell contynually,

²¹ And the Lorde smelled a swete sauour, & sayd in his hert: I wyll henceforth no more cursse the earthe for mans sake, for the imagination of mans herte is euyll, euen from the very youth of him. Moreouer I wyl not destroy from henceforthe all that lyueth as I haue done.

¹³ But the men of Sodome were wicked, & sinned exceadyngly against the Lord.

²⁰ And the Lord sayd? The crye of Sodome and Gomorra is great, and their synne is excedynge greuous. ²¹ I wyll go doune and sea whether they haue done all to gether acordynge to that crye which is come vnto me or not, that I may knowe.

¹⁹ so that when he heareth the wordes of this curse, he blesse him self in his hert saying: I shall haue peace. I wyll therfore worke after the luste of myne owne hert, that the droncken may perysh with the thyrstye.

¹⁶ How much more then an abhominalbe and vyle man, which drincketh wickednesse lyke water?

¹ To the chaunter, of Dauid. The folyshe bodyes saye in their hertes: tushe, there is no God. They are corrupt, & become abhominable in their doynges, there is not one that doth good. ² The Lorde loked doune from heauen vpon the chyldren of men, too se if there were any that wolde vnderstande and seke after God. ³ But they are all gone out of the waye, they are altogether become vnprofitable: there is none that doeth good, no not one. ⁴ How can they haue vnderstandinge, that worke mischiefe, eatynge vp my people, as it were bread, & call not vpon the Lord?

² God loked downe from heauen vpon the chyldren of men, to se if there were any that would vnderstand, or seke after God.

¹⁸ an hert that goeth about with wicked ymaginacions, fet that be swift in rening to do mischefe,

²⁹ Lo thys onely haue I founde, that God made man iust and right, but they seke dyuerse soteltyes,

³ Amonge all thynges that come to passe vnder the Sunne, this is a mysery, that it happeneth vnto all alyke. This is the cause also that the hertes of men are ful of wyckednes, and mad folishnes is in their hertes as longe as they liue, vntyl they dye.

¹⁴ O Ierusalem wash thine herte from wyckednesse, that thou mayest be helped. Howe longe shal thy noysome thoughtes remayne with the.

⁹ Amonge all thynges lyuinge, man hath the moste disceytfull and vnsercheable herte. Who shall then knowe it?

⁹ And he sayde vnto me: Go thy waye in, & loke what wycked abhomynacions they do there.

¹² Then sayde he vnto me: Thou sonne of man, haste thou sene what the Senatoures of the house of Israel do secretly euerye one in hys chambre: For they saye: Tush, the Lorde seyth vs not, the Lord regardeth not the worlde.

¹⁹ For out of the hert come euil thoughtes, murther, breakyng of wedlocke, whoredom, thefte, false, witnes bearing, blasphemye.

²¹ For from within, euen out of the herte of men, procede euel thoughtes: aduoutry, fornication, murther, ²² theft, coueteousnes, wickednes, deceyte: vncleanenesse and a wicked eye, blasphemy, pryde, folishenes: ²³ all these euell thinges come from within and defile a man.

²⁸ And as it semed not good vnto them to be a knowen of God, euen so God deliuered them vp vnto a leud minde, that they should do those thinges, whiche were not comly, ²⁹ beyng ful of al vnryghtuous doing, of fornicacion, wickednes, couetousnes, maliciousnes, full of enuye, murther, debate, disceite, euyl condicioned, whisperers, ³⁰ backbiters, haters of God, doers of wronge, proude, bosters, bryngers vp of euyll thinges, disobedient to father and mother, ³¹ wythout vnderstandynge, couenaunt breakers, vnlouinge, truce breakers and mercyles.

⁹ What saye we then? Are we better then daye? No, in no wyse. For we haue alreadye proued, howe that both Iewes and Gentyls are all vnder synne: ¹⁰ as it is wrytten: There is none righteous, no not one: ¹¹ there is none that vnderstandeth, there is none that seketh after God, ¹² they are all gone out of the waye, they are all made vnprofytable, there is none that doeth good, no not one. ¹³ Theyr throte is an open sepulchre, with theyr tonges they haue disceyued, the poyson of aspes is vnder their lippes. ¹⁴ Whose mouthes are full of curssyng and bytternes. ¹⁵ Theyr fete are swyfte to sheed bloude. ¹⁶ Destruccyon and wretchednes are in theyr wayes. ¹⁷ And the way of peace they haue not knowen. ¹⁸ There is no feare of God before theyr eyes. ¹⁹ Yea and we knowe that whatsoeuer the law sayeth, he saith it to them which are vnder the lawe. That all mouthes maye be stopped, and all the world be subdued to God,

¹ And you hath he quickened also that were deade in treaspas & synne, ² in the whiche in time passed, yet walked accordynge to the course of thys worlde, & after the gouerner that ruleth in the ayer, the spyrite that nowe worketh in the chyldren of vnbelefe, ³ amonge whiche we also had our conuersation in tyme paste, in the lustes of oure fleshe, and fulfylled the wyll of the fleshe and of the mynde, and were naturallye the chyldren of wrath, euen as well as other.

³ For we our selues also in tymes paste, vnwyse, dysobedient, deceyued, in daunger to lustes, and to dyuers maners of voluptuousnes, lyuyng in malycyousnes and enuye, ful of hate, hatyng one another.
