⁴ And ye fathers, moue not youre children to wrath, but bringe them vp with the norter and information of the Lorde.

¹⁹ For I know him that he wyl commaunde his chyldren & his houshold after him, that they kepe the way of the Lord, to do after ryght & conscience that the Lord may brynge vpon Abraham that he hath promysed hym.

¹⁴ Then answered Rahell & Lea, & sayed vnto him: we haue no parte nor enheritaunce in oure fathers house, ¹⁵ he counteth vs euen vs straungers, for he hath solde vs, & hath euen eaten vp the price of vs.

²⁶ And when youre children axe you what maner of seruyce is thys ye do? ²⁷ Ye shal say: it is the sacrifice of the Lordes passeouer, which passed ouer the houses of the chyldren of Israel in Egypte, as he smote the Egypcyans & saued oure houses. Than the people bowed them selues & worshypped.

¹⁴ And when thy sonne axeth the in tyme to come saying: what is this? thou shalt say vnto him: with a myghty hand the Lord brought vs out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. ¹⁵ And when Pharao was loth to let vs go, the Lord slewe all the fyrstborne in the lande of Egypte: as well the fyrst borne of men as of beastes. And therfore I sacrifice vnto the Lord al the males that open the matrice, but al the fyrst borne of my chyldren I must redeme.

⁹ Take hede to thy selfe therfore only & kepe thy soule diligently, that thou forget not the thynges whych thyne eyes haue sene, & that they departe not oute of thyne herte, all the dayes of thy lyfe: but teach them thy sonnes and thy sonnes sonnes.

⁷ & thou shalt whett theim on thy children. & shalt talke of theim when thou arte at home in thyne house, and as thou walkeste by the way, and when thou lyest downe and when thou rysest vp:

²⁰ When thy sonne asketh the in tyme to come sayinge: What meaneth the witnesses ordinaunces & lawes whych the Lord oure God hath commaunded you? ²¹ Then thou shalt saye vnto thy sonne: We were bondmen vnto Pharao in Egypte, but the Lorde broughte vs out of Egypt wyth a myghty hand. ²² And the Lorde shewed sygnes and wonders, both greate and euyl vppon Egypt, Pharao and vpon al hys housholde, before our eyes ²³ and brought vs from thence: to bryng vs in and to giue vs the land which he sware vnto our fathers. ²⁴ And therefore commaunded vs to do all these ordinaunces & for to feare the Lord our God, for our wealth alwayes and that he myght saue vs, as it is come to passe thys day.

¹⁹ and teach them your chyldren: so that thou talke of them when thou sittest in thine house and when thou walkest by the way, & when thou liest downe, & when thou risest vp, ²⁰ yea, & write them vpon the dorepostes of thine house and vpon thy gates, ²¹ that your dayes may be multiplyed, and the dayes of youre children vpon the earth, whych the Lord sware vnto your fathers to gyue theym, as longe as the dayes of heauen last vpon the earth.

⁶ that thys maye be a sygne amonge you. And when youre chyldren aske theyr fathers in tyme to come, sayinge: what meane ye wyth these stones: ⁷ then say vnto them, how that the water of Iordan deuyded at the presence of the arcke of the appoyntmente of the Lord: euen while it went ouer Iordan, the water of Iordan deuyded. And these stones shalbe a memoryall vnto the chyldren of Israel for euer.

²¹ And he spake vnto the chyldren of Israel sayinge, when your chyldren aske you in tyme to come, sayinge: what meane these stones, ²² shewe your chyldren and saye: Israel came ouer thys Iordan on drye lande. ²³ For the Lorde youre God dryed vp the water of Iordan before you, vntyll ye were ouer, as the Lorde youre GOD dyd vnto the red sea, whiche he dryed vp before vs, tyll we were ouer, ²⁴ that all the people of the worlde maye knowe the hande of the Lorde how myghtye it is, and that ye myght feare the Lorde youre God for euer.

¹⁵ But yf it seme euyll vnto you to serue the Lorde, then chose you thys day whom you wyll serue whether the Goddes whiche youre fathers serued that were on the other syde of the floude, eyther the Goddes of the Amorytes in whose lande, ye dwelte, and I & my house wyll serue the Lorde.

³⁰ Then was Saul angry with Ionathas and sayde vnto hym: O frowarde and rebellyous, thyukest thou I knowe not howe thou hast chosen the sonne of Isai vnto thine owne rebuke, and vnto the rebuke & shame of thy mother. ³¹ For as longe as the sonne of Isai lyueth vpon the earth, thou shalt not be stabylyshed, nor yet thy kyngdome, wherfore now sende and fet him vnto me, for he is the child of the death. ³² But Ionathas answered Saul hys father and sayde to hym: wherefore should he dye? what hath he done? ³³ Then Saul cast a speare at hym to hyt hym, wherby Ionathas wyst well, that it was vtterlye determyned of hys father, to sley Dauid. ³⁴ And so Ionathas arose from the table in a great anger and dyd eate no meate the second daye of the moneth, for he was sory for Dauid, because his father had done hym shame.

¹⁰ He shall buylde an house for my name & he shalbe my sonne, and I wil be his father, and wyl stablyshe the seate of his kingedom vpon Israel for euer. ¹¹ Now my sonne, the lord be with the, that thou mayst prospere & buyld the house of the Lorde thy God, as he hathe sayde of the. ¹² And the Lord geue thy wysdom & vnderstandynge, & make the gouerner of Israel, & to kepe the law of the lord thy God. ¹³ For then thou shalt prospere. Yf thou shalte be dylygent to do the ordynaunces and lawes whiche the Lorde charged Moses with, to delyuer to Israell. Plucke vp thyne hert and be strong, dread not nor be discouraged.

⁹ And thou Salomon my sonne: knowe God thy father, and serue hym with a pure hert, and lust of soule. For the Lorde searcheth all hertes, and vnderstandeth all the Imaginacyons of thoughtes. If thou shalte seke hym, he wylbe founde of the: But & yf thou forsake hym, he wyll caste the of for euer. ¹⁰ Take hede now, for the Lord hath chosen the, to buylde an house of thy sanctuarye. Be stronge, and do it.

²⁰ And Dauid sayde to Salomon hys sonne: harden thy self, and be strong, and do it, feare not, nor let thyne herte dyscourage the. For the Lorde God my God is wyth the, & shall not leaue the nor forsake the, vntyll thou haste fynyshed all the worcke that must serue for the house of the Lorde.

¹⁹ And geue vnto Salomon my sonne, a pure herte to kepe thy commaundementes, thy testimonyes & thyne ordinaunces, and to do all, and to buylde the house whiche I entended.

¹⁷ Thou, O God, haste learned me fro my youth vp vntyll now, therfore wyll I tell of thy wonderous workes. ¹⁸ Forsake me not, O GOD, in myne olde age, when I am gray headed: vntyll I haue shewed thyne arme vnto chylders chyldren, and thy power to all them that are yet for to come.

⁴ That we shoulde not hyde them from the chyldren of the generations to come: but to shewe the honoure of the Lorde, hys myghte and wonderfull worckes that he hath done. ⁵ He made a couenaunte wyth Iacob, and gaue Israel a lawe, whiche he commaunded oure forefathers to teache their chyldren. ⁶ That their posterytye myghte knowe it, and the chyldren whych were yet vnborne. To thintent that when they came vp they myghte shewe their chyldren the same. ⁷ That they also myghte put their truste in God, & not to forget what he had done, but to kepe his commaundementes,

¹ Heare, O ye children, the fatherly exhortation, and take good hede, that ye maye learne wysdome. ² Yea I shall geue you a good rewarde, if ye wyll not for sake my lawe. ³ For when I my selfe was my fathers deare sonne, and tenderlye beloued of my mother, ⁴ he taughte me also, saiyng: Let thyne herte receaue my wordes, kepe my commaundementes, and thou shalt lyue.

¹⁸ Chasten thy sonne whyle there is hope, but let not thy soule be moued to sleye hym.

⁶ If thou teachest a child in his youth what waye he shuld go, he shal not leaue it when he is old

¹⁵ Foolishnes sticketh in the herte of the lad, but the rod of correccion dryueth it awaye.

¹³ With holde not correction from the childe, for if thou beatest him with the rodde, he shall not dye thereof. ¹⁴ Thou smitest him with the rod. but thou deliuerest his soule from hel.

¹⁵ The rod and correction myuister wysdome, but if a chylde be not loked vnto, he bringeth his mother to shame.

¹⁷ Nurtour thy sonne with correction, and he shall comforte the, yea he shall do the good at thyne herte.

¹⁹ but the lyuyng, yee the liuinge acknowledge the, lyke as I do thys daye. The father telleth hys chyldren of thy faythfulnesse.

²¹ Fathers, rate not your children, leaste they be of a desperate mynde.

⁵ when I call to remembraunce the vnfayned fayth, that is in the, whiche dwelte fyrste in thy graundmother Loys, and in thy mother Eunica: and am assured that it dwelleth in the also.

¹⁵ and for as muche also as thou haste knowen holy scrypture of a chyld, whiche is able to make the wyse vnto saluacion thorowe the fayth which is in Christ Iesu.

⁷ Yf ye endure chastenynge, God offereth hym selfe vnto you as vnto sonnes. What sonne is that whom the father chasteneth not? ⁸ Yf ye be not vnder correccyon (whereof all are partakers) then are ye bastardes and not sonnes. ⁹ Moreouer seynge we had fathers of oure fleshe whiche corrected vs, and we gaue them reuerence: shoulde we not muche rather be in subieccyon vnto the father of spyrytuall gyftes, that we myght lyue? ¹⁰ And they verely for a few dayes, nurtered vs after their owne pleasure, but he learneth vs vnto that whiche is profytable that we myght receyue of hys holynes.
