¹ In the former treatyse (deare frende Theophilus) I haue written of all that Iesus beganne to do and teache,

²³ And Iesus went about al Galile, teaching in their sinagoges, & preaching the gospel of the kingdome, & healed al maner of sickenes, & all maner of diseases among the people. ²⁴ And his fame sprede abrode through out all Siria. And they brought vnto him all sycke people that were taken with diuers diseases & gripinges, and them that were possessed with deuils and those which were lunatike, & those that had the palsie: & he healed them,

⁵ The blinde se, the halt go, the lepers are clensed: the deaf heare, the dead ryse againe, and the glade tydinges is preached to the poore.

³ I determined also, assone as I had searched out dylygentlye all thinges from the beginning, that then I would write vnto the, good Theophilus:

²⁴ And after those dayes his wyfe Elyzabeth conceyued and hid hir selfe .v. monethes, sayinge.

²³ And Iesus him selfe was entring the thirthy yeare of his age as men supposed hym to be the sonne of Ioseph. which was the sonne of Hely,

²¹ And at that same tyme he cured manye of their infyrmytyes and plages and of euyll spirites, and vnto manye that were blinde he gaue syght. ²² And Iesus aunswered and saide vnto them: Go your wayes and shewe Ihon what thinges ye haue seane and hearde: howe that the blynd se, the halt go, the lepers are clensed, the deafe heare, the dead aryse, to the poore is glad tydinges preached, ²³ and happye is he that is not offended by me.

¹⁹ To whom he sayde: what thinges? And they sayde vnto him: of Iesus of Nazareth which was a Prophete, mighty in dede and worde before God, and all the people.

³² Iesus aunswered them: manye good workes haue I shewed you from my father: for whiche of them wyll ye stone me? ³³ The Iewes aunswered him, saiynge: For thy good workes sake we stone the not, but for thy blasphemye, and because that thou beynge a man, makest thy selfe God. ³⁴ Iesus aunswered them: is it not wrytten in youre lawe. I saye: ye are Goddes? ³⁵ Yf he called them Goddes vnto whom the worde of God was spoken (& the scripture can not be broken) ³⁶ saye ye then to hym, whom the father hath sanctifyed, & sent into the worlde, thou blasphemest, because I sayed. I am the sonne of God? ³⁷ yf I do not the workes of my father, beleue me not. ³⁸ But yf I do: then thoughe ye beleue not me, yet beleue the workes, that ye maye knowe and beleue, that the father is in me, and I in hym.

¹⁹ The hye Prieste axed Iesus of hys disciples and of hys doctryne. ²⁰ Iesus aunswered him: I spake openly in the world. I euer taught in the synagoge, and in the temple whyther all the Iewes resorted, and in secrete haue I sayde nothynge. ²¹ Why axest thou me? Axe them whiche hearde me, what I sayde vnto them. Beholde, they can tell what I sayde.

²² Ye men of Israel heare these wordes: Iesus of Nazareth, a man approued of God amonge you wyth miracles, woundres, and signes whiche God dyd by hym in the middes of you, as ye your selues knowe:

²¹ for here vnto verelye were ye called: for Christe also suffered for vs, leauynge vs an ensample that we shoulde folowe his steppes, ²² whiche dyd no synne, neyther was there gyle founde in hys mouth: ²³ which when he was reuyled, reuyled not agayne: when he suffered, he threatened not: but commytted the cause to him that iudgeth ryghtuously,
