¹ When Kynge Hezekiah hearde that he rent his clothes, and put on sacke, and wente to the house of the Lorde.

³⁴ And Iacob rent hys cloothes, and put sacke cloth about hys loynes, and sorowed for hys sonne a longe season.

¹² And there ran a man of Beniamin out of the araye & came to Siloh the same day with his clothes rent & earthe vpon his head.

²⁷ When Ahab hearde those wordes, he rent his clothes and put sackecloth about his flesh, and fasted, and laye in sack, and went confortlesse.

²⁹ seyst thou howe Ahab humbleth hym selfe before me? because he so submytteth hym selfe before me, I wil bryng that euil in hys daies: but in his sonnes daies I wyll brynge euyll vpon his house.

⁷ And when the kinge of Israell had reade the letter, he rent hys clothes & sayed: am I God to sley and to make aliue? that he should sende to me, for to delyuer a man from his leprosye. But consyder I praye you and se, howe he piked quarels with me.

³⁰ When the kyng heard the wordes of the women, he rent hys clothes euen as he was walkyng on the walles. And when the people loked vpon him: se, he was clothed in sacke vnder.

³⁷ Then Eliakim the stuard of the houshold and Sobnah the scrybe, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and tolde hym the wordes of Rabsakeh.

¹⁵ Therto myne eyes shalbe open & myne eares attente vnto the prayers made in thys place. ¹⁶ And fynally I haue chosen and sanctyfyed this house, that my name be there for euer, & myne eyes & myne herte shalbe there perpetuallye.

²⁰ But Hezekiah the kynge and the prophete Isaiah sonne of Amoz prayed concernynge that thynge and cryed vp to heauen. ²¹ And the Lorde sent an angell & destroyed all the men of warre and the Lordes & capitaynes of the hoste of the kyng of Assur, that he turned hys face wyth shame towarde hys owne lande. And when he was come into the house of his God, he was there ouerthrowen wyth the swerde euen by them that issued oute of hys bowelles. ²² And so the Lorde saued Hezekiah and the enhabyters at Ierusalem oute of the handes of Sennaherib kynge of Assur and of all other, and mayntained them on all sydes.

³ When I hearde thys, I rent my clothes and my rayment, and plucte of the hearre of my heade, and of my bearde, and sate mournyng.

¹ When Mardocheus perceiued al that was done, he rente his clothes, and put on sacke clothe, & asshes, and went out into the middes of the citie & cried loud and lamentably, ² and came before the kinges gate: for there myghte no man entre wythyn the kynges gate, that hath sacke clothe on. ³ And in all landes and places, as farre as the kynges worde and commaundement extended there was greate lamentacyon among the Iewes, and many fasted, wepte, mourned, & laye in sacke clothes & in ashes. ⁴ So Esthers Damosels & her chamberlaynes, came & told it her. Then was the quene exceadingly astonyed. And she sent rayment, that Mardocheus shoulde put them on, and laye the sacke clothe from hym. But Mardocheus woulde not take them.

²⁰ Then Iob stode vp, and rente hys clothes shaued his heade, fell doune vpon the ground, worshipped, ²¹ and sayde: Naked came I out of my mothers wombe, & naked shall I turne thether agayne. The Lorde gaue, and the Lord hath taken awaye now blessed be the name of the Lorde.

¹³ Neuerthelesse, when they were sycke, I put on a sacke cloth: I humbled my soule with fastyng, and my prayer turned into myne owne bosome.

¹ When Hezekiah hearde that, he rente his clothes, and put on a sack cloth, & went into the temple of the Lorde. ² But he sent Eliakim the Presydent, Sobna the Scrybe, wyth the eldest preastes clothed in sacke, vnto the Prophet Esay the sonne of Amoz, ³ & they sayde vnto hym: Thus sayeth Hezekiah: This is the daye of trouble, of plage and of wrath: lyke as when a chylde cometh to the byrth, but the woman hath no power to brynge it forth. ⁴ The Lorde thy God (no doute) hath well consydered the wordes of Rabsakeh, whom hys lorde the Kynge of the Assyrians hath sent, to defye & blaspheme the lyuynge God: with soch wordes as the Lord thy God hath heard right well. And therfore lyfte vp thy prayer for the remnaunt, that yet are left. ⁵ So the seruauntes of Kyng Hezekiah came to Esay. ⁶ And Esay gaue them this answere. Saye thus vnto youre lorde: thus sayeth the Lord: Be not afrayed of the wordes that thou hast hearde, wherwith the Kyng of the Assyrians seruauntes haue blasphemed me. ⁷ Beholde, I wyll cause a wynde go ouer hym, as sone as he heareth it, he shall go agayne into hys countre, there wyll I destroye hym with the swerde.

²⁴ Yet no man was abashed thereof, or rente his clothes: neyther the kinge him selfe, nor his seruauntes, though they hearde all these wordes.

⁸ but put on sack cloth both man and beast, and crye myghtely vnto God: yee se that euery man turne from hys euell waye, and from the wyckednesse, that he hath in hande.

²¹ Wo be to the Chorasin. Wo be to the Bethzaida: for if the miracles which were shewed in you, had be done in Tyre and Sidon, they had repented longe agone in sackcloth and ashes.

⁶⁵ Then the hye Priest rent hys clothes sayinge: He hath blasphemed: what nede we of anye more wytnesses? Beholde nowe ye haue heard hys blasphemy
