²⁹ Who is weake, and I am not weake? Who is hurte in the faythe, and my herte burneth not?

⁶ And behold, one of the children of Israell came & broughte vnto hys brethren, a Madianitish wyfe euen in the syght of Moses & in the sighte of al the multitude of the children of Israel, as they were weppyng in the dore of the tabernacle of wytnes. ⁷ And when Phinehes the sonne of Eleazar the sonne of Aaron the prieste sawe it, he rose vp out of the company & toke a weapen in hys hand, ⁸ & went after the man of Israel into the hore house and thrust them thorow: both the man of Israel and also the woman euen thorowe the bealy of hyr. And the plage ceased from the children of Israel. ⁹ And ther dyed in the plage .xxiiij. thousand. ¹⁰ And the Lord spake vnto Moses saying: ¹¹ Phinehes the sonne of Eleazar the sonne of Aaron the prieste, hathe turned myne anger awaye from the chyldren of Israel, bycause he was gelouse for my sake amonge them that I had not consumed the chyldren of Israel in my gelousy.

¹ When all this was perfourmed, the rulers came to me, & sayde: The people of Israell, and the priestes, & Leuites are not separated from the nacions in the landes as thouchynge theyr abhomynacions, namely of the Cananites, Hethites, Pheresites, Iebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egypcyans, and Amorites. ² For they haue taken the doughters of the same, and their sonnes, and haue myxte the holy seade wyth the nacyons in the landes: and the hande of the prynces and rulers hath bene pryncypall in hys trespace. ³ When I hearde thys, I rent my clothes and my rayment, and plucte of the hearre of my heade, and of my bearde, and sate mournyng.

⁶ But when I hearde theyr complaynte and such wordes, it displeased me sore, ⁷ and I aduysed so in my mynde, that I rebuked the councelers, and the rulers, and sayde vnto them: wyll ye requyre vsury one of another? And I brought a greate congregacion against them ⁸ and sayde vnto them: we (after oure abilyte) haue bought oure brethren the Iewes, which were solde vnto the heythen. And wyll ye sell youre brethren, whom we haue boughte vnto vs? Then helde they theyr peace, and coulde fynde nothynge to aunswere. ⁹ And I sayde: It is not good that ye do. Oughte ye not to walcke in the feare of God because of the rebuke of the Heythen oure enemyes? ¹⁰ I and my brethren, and my seruauntes haue lente them moneye and corne: but as for vsury, let vs leaue it. ¹¹ Therfore thys same day se that ye restore them theyr landes agayne, theyr vyneyardes, oyle gardens and houses, and the hundred part of the money of the corne, wyne and oyle that ye haue wonne of them. ¹² Then sayde they: we wyll restore them agayne and wyll requyre nothynge of them, and wyl do as thou haste spoken. And I called the priestes, and toke an othe of them, that they shuld do so. ¹³ And I shoke my lappe, and sayde: God shake oute euerye man after the same maner from hys house and laboure, that maynteyneth not thys worde: euen thus be he shaken oute, and voyde. And all the congregacyon sayde: Amen, and praysed the Lorde. And the people dyd so.

¹⁵ At the same tyme sawe I some tredynge wynepresses on the Saboth, and bryngynge in clusters, and asses laden wyth wyne, grapes, fygges, and bryngynge al maner of burthens vnto Ierusalem, vpon the Saboth day. And I rebuked them earnestlye the same daye that they solde the vytayles. ¹⁶ There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, whiche brought fyshe & all maner of ware, and solde on the Sabboth vnto the chyldren of Iuda, and Ierusalem. ¹⁷ Then reproued I the rulers in Iuda, and sayd vnto them: what euyll thynge is thys that ye do, & breake the Saboth day? ¹⁸ Dyd not our fathers euen thus, and oure GOD brought all thys plage vpon vs & vpon thys cytye? And ye make the wrathe more yet vpon Israel, in that ye breake the Saboth. ¹⁹ And it fortuned, that when the porters of Ierusalem made shadowe before the Saboth, I commaunded to shut the gathes, & charged, that they shulde not be opened tyl after the Saboth & some of my seruauntes set I at the gates, that here shulde no burthen be broughte in on the Saboth daye. ²⁰ Then remayned the chapmen and marchauntes ones or twyce ouer nyghte wythoute Ierusalem wyth all maner of wares.

²³ And at the same tyme sawe I Iewes, that maryed wyues of Asdod, Ammon & of Moab, ²⁴ and theyr chyldren spake halfe in the speache of Asdod, and could not speake in the Iewes language, but by the tonge myghte a man perceyue euerye people. ²⁵ And I reproued them, & cursed them, and smote certaine men of them, and pluckte them vp, and toke an othe of them by God: Ye shall not gene youre doughters vnto theyr sonnes, neyther shal ye take theyr doughters vnto youre sonnes, or for your selues.

¹⁷ And his dyscyples remembred how that it was written: the zele of thyne house hath euen eaten me.

¹⁵ Be merye with them that are merye. Wepe with them that wepe.

¹ We whiche are strong, ought to beare the fraylnes of them whiche are weake, and not to stande in our owne conceptes.

¹ There goeth a commen, saiynge: that there is fornicacion amonge you, and such fornication as is not ones named amonge the Gentiles: that one should haue his fathers wyfe. ² And ye swell and haue not rather sorowed, that he whiche hath done this dede, myght be put from amonge you. ³ For I verelye as absent in bodye, euen so present in spirite, haue determined alredye (as though I were present) that he that hath done this dede, ⁴ in the name of oure Lord Iesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, in my spyryte, wyth the power of the Lorde Iesus Christe, ⁵ be delyuered vnto Sathan, for the destruccion of the fleshe, that the spirite maye be saued in the daye of the Lorde Iesus.

⁵ Thys I saye to youre shame. Is there vtterlye no wyse man amonge you. What, not one at al, that can iudge betwene brother and brother, ⁶ but one brother goeth to lawe with another, and that vnder the vnbeleuers? ⁷ Nowe therfore, there is vtterlye a faute amonge you, because ye go to law one wyth another. Why rather suffer ye not wronge? Why rather suffre ye not youre selues to be robbed?

¹⁵ Either remembre ye not, that youre bodyes are the membres of Christe, shal I now take the membres of Christ, and make them the membres of an harlotte? God forbid. ¹⁶ Do ye not vnderstande, that he whiche coupleth him selfe with an harlot, is become one body? For two (sayth he) shalbe one flesh. ¹⁷ But he that is ioyned vnto the Lorde, is one spyryte. ¹⁸ Fle fornycatyon. Al synnes that a man doth, are without the body. But he that is a fornicatour, sinneth agaynst his owne bodye.

¹³ Wherfore yf meate hurte my brother, I wyll eate no fleshe, whyle the worlde standeth, because I wyll not hurte my brother.

²² To the weake became I as weake, to wynne the weake. In all thinge I fashioned my selfe to all men, to saue at the lest waye some.

²² Or els despise ye the congregacion of God and shame them that haue not? What shall I saye vnto you? shall I prayse you: In thys prayse I you not.

²⁶ And yf one member be had in honoure, all the membres be glad also.

¹² If Christe be preached howe that he rose from death: howe saye some? that are amonge you, that there is no resurreccion from death? ¹³ If ther be no rysinge agayne from death, then is Christe not rysen. ¹⁴ If Christ be not rysen, then is our preachinge vayne, and your faith is also in vaine. ¹⁵ Ye and we are founde false witnesses of God. For we haue testifyed of God, howe that he raysed vp Christe, whom he raysed not vp yf it be so that the deade ryse not vp againe. ¹⁶ For yf the dead rise not againe then is Christ not rysen againe. ¹⁷ Yf it be so that Christe rose not, then is youre faith in vayne, and yet are ye in youre synnes. ¹⁸ And ther to they which are fallen a slepe in Christ, are peryshed. ¹⁹ If in thys lyfe onelye we beleue on Christ, then are we of all men the miserablest. ²⁰ But now in Christ rysen from the dead, and is become the fyrste fruytes of them that slepte. ²¹ For by a man came death, and by a man came the resurceccion of the dead. ²² For as by Adam all dye: euen so by Christe, shall all be made aliue, ²³ and euery man in his owne order. The fyrste is Christe, then they that are Christes at his comminge. ²⁴ Then commeth the ende when he hath delyuered vp the kyngedome to God the father, when he hath put doune all rule, authoritie, and power. ²⁵ For he muste reigne tyll he haue put all hys enemies vnder his fete. ²⁶ The laste enemy that shalbe destroied is death. ²⁷ For he hath put all thinges vnder hys fete. But when he sayeth, all thinges are put vnder hym it is manifest that he is excepted, whyche dyd put all thinges vnder him. ²⁸ When all thinges are subdued vnto hym: then shall the sonne also him selfe be subiecte to him that put al thinges, vnder him that God maye be all in all thinges. ²⁹ Eyther els what do they, which are baptysed ouer the dead, yf the dead ryse not at all? Why are they then baptysed ouer the dead? ³⁰ yea and why stande we in ieoperdy euerye houre? ³¹ By our reioysinge, whyche I haue in Christe Iesu our Lorde, I dye dayly. ³² That I haue fought wyth beastes at Ephesus, after the maner of men what auauntageth it me, yf the dead rise not againe? Let vs eate and drincke, to morowe we shall dye. ³³ Be not deceiued: malicious speakinges corrupte good maners. ³⁴ Awake truelye out of slepe and synne not. For some haue not the knowledge of God. I speake this vnto you: rebuke.

³⁶ Thou fole, that whiche thou sowest is not quickened except it dye.

⁴ For in great affliction and anguyshe of herte I wrote vnto you with many teares: not to make you sory, but that ye myght perceyue the loue which I haue most specially vnto you. ⁵ Yf anye man haue caused sorowe the same hath not made me sory, but partelye: leaste I shoulde greue you all.

⁵ For when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on euerye syde. Outwarde was fyghtynge, inwarde was feare. ⁶ Neuerthelesse GOD that comforteth the abiect, comforteth vs at the comming of Tytus.

¹³ For these false Apostles are disceytfull workers, and fashyon them selues lyke vnto the Apostles of Christe. ¹⁴ And no maruail for Satan hym selfe is chaunged into the fashyon of an angell of lyghte. ¹⁵ Therfore it is no greate thynge, thoughe hys mynysters fashyon them selues as thoughe they were the mynisters of rightuousnes, whose end shalbe accordynge to theyr dedes.

⁹ we are glad when we are weake, & ye strong. Thys also we wyshe for, euen that ye were perfecte.

⁷ whiche is nothynge els, but that there be some which trouble you, and entende to peruert the Gospell of Christe. ⁸ Neuerthelesse thoughe we oure selues, or an Angell from heauen, preache any other Gospell vnto you then that whiche we haue preached vnto you, holde hym as accurssed. ⁹ As I haue sayed before, so saye I nowe agayne, yf anye man preache any other thynge vnto you, then that you haue receyued, holde hym accursed. ¹⁰ Preache I mans doctryne or Goddes? Eyther go I aboute to please men? Yf I studyed to please men, I were not the seruauat of Christe.

⁴ and that because of incommers beynge false brethren which came in amonge other to spye out our lybertye which we haue in Christe Iesus, that they myghte brynge vs into bondage. ⁵ To whom we gaue no roume, no not for the space of an houre, as concernynge to be brought into subieccion, & that because that the truth of the Gospel might contynue with you. ⁶ Of them whiche seme to be great (what they were in time passed, it maketh no matter to me: God loketh on no mans person) neuerthelesse they which seme great, added nothing to me.

¹⁴ But when I sawe, that they went not the ryghte waye after the truth of the Gospell, I sayde vnto Peter before all men, yf thou beynge a Iew, lyuest after the maner of the Gentyls, and not as do the Iewes: why causeste thou the Gentyls to lyue as do the Iewes?

¹ O folyshe Galathyans: who hath wytched you, that ye should not beleue the truthe? To whom Iesus Christ was descrybed before the eyes, and among you crucyfyed. ² Thys onelye woulde I learne of you, receyued ye the spyryte by the dedes of the law, or els by preachynge of the faith? ³ Are ye so vnwyse that after ye haue begonne in the spyryte, ye woulde nowe ende in the fleshe?

⁸ Notwithstandynge when ye knewe not God ye dyd seruyce vnto them, which by nature were no Goddes. ⁹ But nowe seynge, ye knowe God (yea rather are knowen of God) how is it that ye turne agayne to the weake & beggerly ceremonies, wherevnto agayne ye desyre a freshe to be in bondage? ¹⁰ Ye obserue dayes, and monethes, and tymes, and yeares. ¹¹ I am in feare of you lest I haue bestowed on you laboure in vayne. ¹² Brethren I beseche you, be ye as I am, for I am as ye are. Ye haue not hurte me at all. ¹³ Ye knowe howe thorowe infyrmytye of the fleshe, I preached the Gospell vnto you at the fyrste. ¹⁴ And my temptacion whiche I suffered by reason of my flesh, ye dispysed not, neyther abhorred, but receyued me as an Angell of God: yea as Christe Iesu. ¹⁵ How happye were ye then? for I beare you recorde that yf it had bene possyble, ye woulde haue plucked oute youre owne eyes, and haue geuen them to me. ¹⁶ Am I therfore become your enemye, because I tell you the truth? ¹⁷ They are gelous ouer you amysse. Yea, they intende to exclude you, that ye should be feruent to them ward. ¹⁸ It is good alwayes to be feruent, so it be in a good thinge, and not onelye when I am presente with you. ¹⁹ My lytle chyldren (of whome I trauayle in byrth agayne vntyll Christe be fashyoned in you) ²⁰ I woulde I were with you now, and coulde chaunge my voyce, for I stande in a doubte of you.

² Beholde I Paule saye vnto you, that yf ye be circumcysed Christe shall profyte you nothynge at all. ³ I testifye agayne to euery man whiche is circumcysed that he is bounde to kepe the whole lawe. ⁴ Ye are gone quyte from Christe as manye as are iustifyed by the law, and are fallen from grace.

² Beare ye one anothers burthen, and so fulfyl the lawe of christ.

⁵ For this cause when I coulde no longer forbeare, I sente, that I might haue knowledge of your fayth, least haplye the tempter had tempted you, and that oure labour had bene bestowed in vayne. ⁶ But nowe lately when Timotheus came from you vnto vs, and declared to vs youre fayth & your loue, & howe that ye haue good remembraunce of vs alwayes, desyring to se vs as we desyre to se you. ⁷ Therfore brethren we had consolacion in you and in all our aduersyte and necessitie, thorow your fayth. ⁸ For nowe are we alyue, yf ye stande stedfast in the Lorde.

¹⁰ Yf there come any vnto you, and bringe not this learninge, him receiue not to house, neither byd hym God spede. ¹¹ For he that biddeth him God spede, is partaker of his euyll dedes.

³ Beloued, when I gaue all dylygence to wryte vnto you of the commen saluacyon: it was nedefull for me to wryte vnto you, to exhorte you, that ye should contynuallye labour in the faythe whiche was ones geuen vnto the saynctes. ⁴ For there are certayne craftely crept in, of which it was wrytten afore tyme vnto suche iudgement. They are vngodlye & turne the grace of oure God vnto wantonnes, and denye God the onelye Lorde, and oure Lord Iesus Christe.

² I knowe thy workes, and thy laboure, & thy pacience, and howe thou cannest not forbeare them, whyche are euyl, and examinedst them which saye they are Apostles and are not, & hast found them lyars

²⁰ Notwithstandinge I haue a fewe thinges against the, that thou sufferest that woman Iesabel, which called her selfe a prophetisse, to teache and to deceyue my seruauntes to make them commit fornicacion, and to eate meates offered vp to Idols.

¹⁵ I knowe thy workes, that thou art neyther colde nor hote. I would thou were colde or hote. ¹⁶ So then because thou arte betwene both, and neyther colde nor hote. I wyll, spewe the out of my mouth: ¹⁷ because thou art ryche and increased wyth goodes, and hast nede of nothinge, and knowest not howe thou art wretched and miserable, poore, blind and naked. ¹⁸ I counsel the to bye of me golde tryed in the fyre, that thou mayest be ryche, and whyte raymente, that thou mayest be clothed, that thy fylthye nakednes do not appere, & annointe thine eyes wyth eye salue, that thou maiest se.
