²⁵ For there was none at all lyke Ahab, that was so vtterly geuen to worcke wickednesse in the sight of the Lorde, and that because Iezabel his wyfe prycked hym forwarde.

¹ Bvt kynge Salomon loued manye outlandysh wemen: the doughter of Pharao: and of the Moabytes, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonytes and Hethites, ² even of nacyons of whiche the Lorde sayde vnto the chyldren of Israell, se ye come not at them, nor let them come to you: for surely they wyll turne youre hertes after theyr Goddes. Neuerthelesse to such Salomon claue and fell in loue with them. ³ And he had seuen hundred very Quenes and thre hundred concubynes whiche turned away his hert. ⁴ For when Salomon was olde, hys wyues turned hys herte after other Goddes: so that hys herte was not perfecte wyth the Lorde hys God, as was the herte of Dauid hys father.

³⁰ And he displeased the Lord aboue all that were before him. ³¹ For it semed him a light thinge to walke in the synne of Ieroboam. But toke Iezabel the doughter of Ethbaal, kinge of the Sidonites to wyfe, and went & serued Baal and bowed vnto him. ³² And he rered an aultare to Baal in the house of Baal, whyche he had made in Samaria. ³³ And Ahab made a groue, and proceded ferther in angerynge the Lorde God of Israell, then all the kynges of Israel that were before him.

⁴ in so muche that when Iezabel destroyed the Prophetes of the Lorde, he toke an hundred of the Prophetes and hyd them, fyftye in one caue, and fyftye in another, and prouyded breade and water for them.

² Then Iezabel sent a messenger vnto Eliah sayinge: so do God to me and so therto, except I make thy soule lyke one of theirs, by to morow this tyme:

⁷ Then sayde Iezabel hys wyfe vnto hym: what a goodly kingedome were thou able to make in Israel? vp and eate meate and sette thyne herte a rest, for I wyll geue the, the vineyarde of Naboth the Iezrahelite.

²⁰ And Ahab sayd to Eliah: hast thou founde me thine enemy at any time? and he saide: ye, because thou art vtterly geuen to worcke wyckednesse in the syghte of the lord.

¹⁷ And they sacrificed their sonnes & their doughters in fyre, & vsed witchcraft & enchauntementes, & were solde to worcke wickednes in the sight of the Lorde for to angre hym.

²⁵ lyke vnto him was there no kynge before him, that turned to the Lorde with al hys herte, with al his soule and all hys myght, accordynge to all the lawe of Moses, neyther after him arose there any suche.

¹⁴ The mouth of an harlot is a depe pyt, wherein he falleth that the Lorde is angrye wyth all.

²⁶ And I founde, that a woman is bytterrer then death: for she is a very angle, her herte is a net, and her handes are cheynes. Who so pleaseth God shall escape from her, but the synner wil be taken wt her.

¹ Thus sayeth the Lorde: Where is the byll of your mothers deuorcement, that I sente vnto her or who is the vsurer, to whome I solde you? Beholde, for youre owne offences are ye solde: & because of youre transgression, is youre mother forsaken.

³ For thus sayth the Lord: ye are solde for naughte, therfor shal ye be redemed also without anye moneye.

¹⁷ For Herode him selfe had sent forth, & had taken Ihon, and bounde him and cast him into pryson for Herodias sake, whiche was hys brother Philippes wyfe: For he had maried her. ¹⁸ Ihon sayd vnto Herode: It is not lawful for the to haue thy brothers wyfe. ¹⁹ Herodias layed wayte for him, and woulde haue killed him, but she could not. ²⁰ For Herode feared Iohan, knowinge that he was a iust man and an holy: and gaue him reuerence: and when he hearde hym, he did many thynges, and heard him gladly. ²¹ But when a conuement daye was come: Herode on his byrth day made a supper to the lordes, captaynes, and chief estates of Galile. ²² And the doughter of the sayd Herodias came in and daunsed, and pleased Herode, and them that sate at bourde also. Then the kyng sayde vnto the mayden: axe of me what thou wilt, & I wil geue it the. ²³ And he sware to her, whatsoeuer thou shalt axe of me, I wil geue it the, euen vnto the halfe of my kyngdome. ²⁴ And she went forth & sayde to her mother: what shal I axe? And she said: Ihon Baptistes head. ²⁵ And she came in straight way with haste vnto the kynge, and axed saying: I wil that thou geue me by and by in a charger the head of Ihon Baptist. ²⁶ And the kynge was excedinge sory: howbeit, for his othes sake, and for their sakes, whiche sate at supper also, he woulde not put her beside her purpose. ²⁷ And immediatly the kynge sent the hang man, and commaunded his headde to be brought in. And he went and beheaded hym in the pryson,

¹² And they moued the people and the elders and the scribes: and came vpon him and caught hym,

² But the vnbeleuynge Iewes stered vp, and vnquieted the myndes of the gentyls agaynst the brethren.

¹⁹ I will speake grossely because of the infirmitie of youre fleshe. As ye haue geuen your members seruauntes to vnclennes and to iniquitie: from iniquitie vnto iniquitie: euen so now geue your membres seruauntes vnto rightuousnes, that ye may be sanctifyed.

¹⁴ For we knowe that the lawe is spirituall but I am carnal, sold vnder synne,
