³³ But he that hath maried, careth for the thinges of the worlde howe he may please his wyfe.

⁴ And it fel on a day as Elkanah had offered that he gaue to Phenennah his wife & to al her sonnes & doughters porcions. ⁵ But vnto Hannah he gaue a porcion with a heuye chere, for he loued her, neuerthelesse the Lorde had made her barren. ⁶ And therto her enemye Phenennah vexed her a good in castinge her in the thete, howe the Lorde had made her barren. ⁷ And so did she yere by yere as oft as she went vp to the house of the Lord. And so chafed her, wherfore Hannah wepte and ate not. ⁸ Then sayde Elkanah her husband to her: Hannah why wypeste thou? And why eatest thou not? & why is thyne herte so troubled? am not I better to the, then ten sonnes?

¹ And there arose a greate complaynte of the people, and of theyr wyues agaynst their brethren the Iewes. ² And there were some that sayde: oure sonnes and doughters are to manye, let vs take corne for them and eate, that we maye lyue. ³ Some sayde: let vs set oure landes, vyneyardes and houses to pledge, and take vp corne in the darth. ⁴ But some sayde: let vs borowe money of the kynges trybute for oure landes and vyneyardes. ⁵ Now are oure brethrens bodyes as oure owne bodyes and their children as oure chyldren: els shoulde we subdue oure sonnes and doughters vnto bondage, & some of oure doughters are subdued already, and no strength is there in oure handes, and other men shall haue oure landes and vyneyardes.

²² And he spake vnto hys disciples: Therfor I saye vnto you: Take no thoughte for youre lyfe, what ye shal eate, neyther for your body what ye shal put on.

³ Let the man geue vnto the wyfe due beneuolence. Lykewyse also the wyfe vnto the man.

²⁵ Husbandes loue youre wyues, euen as Christe loued the congregation, and gaue him selfe for it, ²⁶ to sanctifye it, and cleansed it in the fountayne of water thorowe the worde ²⁷ to make it vnto hym selfe a glorious congregation wythout spotte or wrinckle, or anye suche thinge: but that it shoulde be holy and wythout blame. ²⁸ So ought men to loue theyr wyues, as their owne bodies. He that loueth hys wyfe, loueth him selfe. ²⁹ For no man euer yet hated hys owne fleshe, but norisheth and cherisseth it euen as the Lorde doeth the congregation. ³⁰ For we are members of his bodie, of his fleshe, and of hys bones. ³¹ For this cause shall a man leaue father and mother, and shall continue wyth hys wyfe, and two shalbe made one fleshe. ³² Thys is a greate secrete, but I speake betwene Christe and the congregation. ³³ Neuerthelesse do ye so that euerye one of you loue his wyfe truely euen as hym selfe: And let the wyfe se that she feare her husbande.

¹⁹ Husbandes loue your wyues, and be not bitter vnto them.

¹¹ and that ye studye to be quyete, and to medle with youre owne busines, and to worke wyth youre owne handes, as we commaunded you: ¹² that ye may behaue your selues honestly towardes them that are wythout, and that nothinge be lackinge vnto you.

⁸ Yf there be anye that prouideth not for hys owne, & namely for them of hys housholde the same denyeth the fayth, & is worsse then an infydele.

⁷ Lykewyse ye men dwell wyth them accordynge to knoweledge, geuynge honoure vnto the wyfe, as vnto the weaker vessell, and as vnto them that are heyres also of the grace of lyfe, that youre prayers be not let.
