²¹ I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if justification be by the law, Christ died to no purpose.

⁹ You are in the right, said he, to abolish the laws of God, to make way for such traditions.

³¹ What shall we conclude then from this? if God be for us, who can be against us?

¹⁶ yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in him, and not by the works of the law, by which there is no justification.

¹⁸ on the contrary, if I re-establish what I have demolish'd, I show myself a prevaricator.

²¹ Is the law then opposite to the promises? by no means. for if there had been a law given, which could have given life, certainly justification should have been by the law.

² take notice, 'tis I Paul declare it to you, that if you are circumcised, Christ shall be of no advantage to you. ³ for I testify to every man that is circumcised, that he is under an obligation to perform the whole law. ⁴ Christ is of no use to you, whoever of you seek to be justified by the law; you have lost all interest in the gospel-dispensation.

¹¹ If therefore the Levitical priesthood, concerning which the people received a law, could have given perfection, what further need was there that another priest should rise, to be named after the order of Melchisedec, and not after the order of Aaron?
