1 John 2:7 Cross References - Mace

7 My brethren, I don't prescribe you any new commandment, but the antient precept which you had from the beginning: and that is no other than the word which was originally delivered.

Matthew 5:43

43 You have heard that it hath been said, "you shall love your neighbour, and hate your enemy:"

Matthew 22:37-40

37 Jesus said to him, "thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." 38 this is the first and most important precept, 39 and the second has an affinity with it, "thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self." 40 these two precepts comprehend the substance of all the law and the prophets.

Mark 12:29-34

29 Jesus answer'd him, the first of all the commandments is thus deliver'd, "hear, o Israel, the lord our God is the only lord. 30 you shall therefore love the lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, to the utmost of your understanding, and all your faculties." this is the first commandment. 31 and the second, which has an affinity to it, is this: "you shall love your neighbour as yourself." there is no other commandment greater than these. 32 the Scribe replied, what you have said, master, is very true, there is one God, and no other but he. 33 and to love him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, with all its faculties, and to love one's neighbour as one's self is more acceptable than all the offerings and sacrifices in the world. 34 Jesus observing he answer'd so discreetly, said to him, you are not far from the kingdom of God. and no man after that was so hardy as to ask him any question.

Acts 17:19

19 One day they conducted him to the Areopagus, and said to him, may we know what this new doctrine is, which you publish?

Romans 13:8-10

8 Owe no man any thing, but mutual love: for he that 9 loves others hath fulfilled the law. for this, "thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness, thou shalt not covet;" and whatever social precept there be, it is reduced to this single head, 10 thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self." the benevolent never does wrong to his neighbour: therefore benevolence is the fulfilling of the law.

Galatians 5:13-14

13 for, brethren, you have been called to liberty. only abuse not this freedom as a pretext to vice, but in offices of love be as servants one to another. 14 for all the law is comprehended in this one precept, "thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

James 2:8-12

8 If, agreeably to the scriptures, you observe that royal law, "thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self," you do well. 9 but partiality is iniquity; and the law will convict the offender of transgression. 10 for he that violates but one precept of the whole law, is as obnoxious to punishment, as if he had broke thro' all the rest. 11 he that said, "do not commit adultery," said too, "do not kill." though you should not commit adultery, yet if you kill, you are a transgressor of the law. 12 speak and act as those, who are to be judged by the law of liberty.

1 John 2:24

24 adhere therefore to what ye have learnt from the beginning. if you adhere to what ye have heard from the beginning, you will still persist to own both the son and the father.

1 John 3:11

11 for this is the doctrine that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

1 John 3:23

23 now this is his commandment, that we believe in his son Jesus Christ, and that we love one another, as he commanded us.

2 John 1:5-6

5 and now, my lady, I beg our love may be mutual, since what I write, is no new prescription, but what was originally enjoin'd. 6 now love consists in the practice of the divine precepts. this is the precept you have originally receiv'd, as the rule of your conduct.
