³³ "Have I kept secret my sin, and hid mine iniquity as Adam did?

²⁷ Such a respect hath he unto men. Therefore let a man confess, and say, 'I offended, but he hath chastened and reformed me: I did unrighteously nevertheless he hath not recompensed me thereafter.

⁵ For his wrath endureth but the twinkling of an eye, and in his pleasure is life; heaviness may well endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

¹⁸ For I will confess my wickedness, and be sorry for my sin.

³ For I acknowledge my faults, and my sin is ever before me. ⁴ Against thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight, that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and clear when thou shalt judge. ⁵ Behold, I was born in wickedness, and in sin hath my mother conceived me.

⁵ For thou, LORD, art good and gracious, and of great mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

¹⁵ But thou, O LORD God, art full of compassion and mercy, longsuffering, plenteous in goodness and truth.

³ Who forgiveth all thy sin, and healeth all thine infirmities?

¹² Look how wide the east is from the west, so far hath he set our sins from us.

¹³ He that hideth his sins, shall not prosper; but who so knowledgeth them and forsaketh them, shall have mercy.

²⁰ Such is the way also of a wife that breaketh wedlock, which wipeth her mouth like as when she hath eaten, and sayeth, "As for me, I have done no harm."

²⁴ And it shall be, that before they call, I shall answer them. While they are yet but thinking how to speak, I shall hear them.

²³ Say not now, 'I am not unclean, and I have not followed Baal.' Look upon thy own ways in the woods, valleys and dens: so shalt thou know, what thou hast done. Thou art like a swift Dromedary that goeth easily his way:

³⁵ Yet darest thou say, 'I am guiltless: Tush, his wrath cannot come upon me.' Behold, I will reason with thee because thou darest say, 'I have not offended.'

¹³ but on this condition, that thou know thy great blasphemy: Namely, that thou hast unfaithfully forsaken the LORD thy God, and hast made thyself partaker of strange gods under all green trees, but hast had no will to hear my voice, sayeth the LORD.

²⁰ Upon this complaint, I thought thus by myself: Is not Ephraim my dear son? Is he not the child, with whom I have had all mirth and pastime? For since the time that I first communed with him, I have him ever in remembrance: therefore my very heart driveth me unto him; gladly and lovingly will I have mercy upon him, sayeth the LORD.

¹ In their adversity they shall seek me, and say, "Come, let us turn again to the LORD: for he hath smitten us, and he shall heal us;

⁸ Should a man use falsity and deceit with God, as ye use falsity and deceit with me? Yet ye say, 'Wherein use we deceit with thee?' In tithes and heave offerings.

⁴⁷ Wherefore I say unto thee, Many sins are forgiven her, for she loved much. To whom less is forgiven, the same doeth less love."

¹⁷ Then he came to himself and said, 'How many hired servants at my father's have bread enough, and I die for hunger. ¹⁸ I will arise, and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before thee, ¹⁹ and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.' ²⁰ And he arose, and went to his father. And when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran unto him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said unto him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy henceforth to be called thy son.' ²² But his father said to his servants, 'Bring forth that best garment, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. ²³ And bring hither that fatted calf, and kill him, and let us eat and be merry:

¹⁵ and he said unto them, "Ye are they, which justify yourselves before men: but God knoweth your hearts. For that which is highly esteemed among men is abominable in the sight of God.

³² Be ye courteous one to another, and merciful, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake forgave you.

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and truth is not in us. ⁹ If we knowledge our sins, he is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
