¹ Job answered, and said, ² "My saying is yet this day in bitterness, and my hand heavy among my groanings. ³ O that I might see him and find him: O that I might come before his seat, ⁴ to plead my cause before him, and to fill my mouth with arguments: ⁵ That I might know, what answer he would give me: and that I might understand, what he would say unto me. ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power and strength? No, but he will make me the stronger. ⁷ He that is just shall enter disputation with him, and my judge shall deliver me forever. ⁸ "For though I go before, I find him not; If I come behind, I can get no knowledge of him; ⁹ If I go on the left side to ponder his works, I can not attain unto them. Again, if I go on the rightside, he hideth himself, that I cannot see him. ¹⁰ But as for my way, he knoweth it: and tryeth me as the gold in the fire. ¹¹ My foot doth keep his path; his highway have I holden, and will not go out of it. ¹² I have not forsaken the commandment of his lips; but look, what he charged me with his mouth, that have I shut up in my heart. ¹³ "It is he, himself, alone. Who will turn him back? He doth as him listeth, and bringeth to pass what he will. ¹⁴ He rewardeth me into my bosom, and many other things more doth he, as he may by his power. ¹⁵ This is the cause, that I shrink at his presence, so that when I consider him I am afraid of him. ¹⁶ For insomuch as he is God, he maketh my heart soft: and seeing that he is Almighty, he putteth me in fear. ¹⁷ Thus can I not get out of darkness, the cloud hath so covered my face.

² "Oh that my misery were weighed, and my punishment laid in the balances: ³ For then should it be heavier than the sand of the sea. This is the cause, that my words are so sorrowful.

¹¹ Therefore I will not spare my mouth, but will speak in the trouble of my spirit; in that bitterness of my mind will I talk.

¹ It grieveth my soul to live. Nevertheless, now will I put forth my words: I will speak out of the very heaviness of my soul,

⁶ that he might show thee out of his secret wisdom how manifold his law is! Then shouldest thou know that God had forgotten thee, because of thy sins.

⁴ For thy hand is heavy upon me both day and night, and my moisture is like the drought in Summer. Selah.

² In the time of my trouble I sought the LORD, I held up mine hands to him in the night season, for my soul refused all other comfort. ³ When I was in heaviness, I thought upon God: when my heart was vexed, then did I speak. Selah. ⁴ Thou heldest mine eyes waking, I was so feeble, that I could not speak. ⁵ Then remembered I the times of old, and the years that were past. ⁶ I called to remembrance my song in the night, I communed with mine own heart, and sought out my spirit. ⁷ Will the LORD absent himself forever? Will he be no more intreated? ⁸ Is his mercy clean gone? Is his promise come utterly to an end for evermore? ⁹ Hath God forgotten to be gracious? Or, hath he shut up his loving-kindness in displeasure? Selah.

¹⁹ {Zayin} O remember yet my misery and my trouble; the wormwood and the gall. ²⁰ Yea, thou shalt remember them, for my soul melteth away in me.

³ Nevertheless I am purposed to talk with the almighty, and my desire is to commune with God.

²¹ Though a body might plead with God, as one man doth with another,

³⁵ O that I had one which would hear me. Lo, this is my cause: Let the almighty give me answer, and let him that is my contrary party, sue me with libel. ³⁶ Then shall I take it upon my shoulder, and as a garland about my head. ³⁷ I have told the number of my goings, and delivered them unto him as to a prince.

¹ Moreover, God spake unto Job, and said, ² "Can he that striveth with the Almighty be at rest? Should not he which disputeth with God, give him an answer?" ³ Job answered the LORD, saying, ⁴ "Behold, I am too vile a person to answer thee, therefore will I lay my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ Once or twice have I spoken, but I will say no more."

⁸ Therefore, LORD, we have a respect unto the way of thy judgments; thy name and thy remembrance rejoice the soul.

⁶ Seek the LORD, while he may be found, and call upon him while he is nigh. ⁷ Let the ungodly man forsake his ways and the unrighteous his imaginations, and turn again unto the LORD: so shall he be merciful unto him; and to our God, for he is ready to forgive.

⁷ "Doubtless our own wickedness reward us: But LORD do thou according to thy name, though our transgressions and sins be many.

¹⁹ For God was in Christ, and made agreement between the world and himself, and imputed not their sins unto them: and hath committed to us the preaching of the atonement. ²⁰ Now then are we messengers in the room of Christ: even as though God did beseech you through us. So pray we you, in Christ's stead, that ye be at one with God:

⁶ Seeing therefore it followeth that some must enter thereinto, and they to whom it was first preached, entered not therein for unbelief's sake.

²⁵ That be far from thee, that thou shouldest do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked, and that the righteous should be as the wicked: that be far from thee. Should not the Judge of all the world do according to right?" ²⁶ And the LORD said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, I will spare all the place for their sakes." ²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, "Behold, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD, and yet am but dust and ashes. ²⁸ What though there lack five of fifty righteous, wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five?" And he said, "If I find there forty and five I will not destroy them." ²⁹ And he spake unto him yet again, and said, "What if there be forty found there?" And he said, "I will not do it for forty's sake." ³⁰ And he said, "O let not my LORD be angry, that I speak. What if there be found thirty there?" And he said, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there." ³¹ And he said, "Oh, see, I have begun to speak unto my LORD, what if there be twenty found there?" And he said, "I will not destroy them for twenty's sake." ³² And he said, "O let not my LORD be angry, that I speak yet, but even once more only. What if ten be found there?" And he said, "I will not destroy them for ten's sake."

¹² Thou saidest that thou wouldest surely do me good, and wouldest make my seed as the sand of the sea which can not be numbered for multitude."

¹² Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, 'For a mischief did he bring them out: even for to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth.' Turn from thy fierce wrath, and have compassion over the wickedness of thy people. ¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac and Israel thy servants, to whom thou sworest by thine own self and saidest unto them, 'I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land which I have said, I will give unto your seed: and they shall inherit it forever.'"

¹³ And Moses said unto the LORD, "Then the Egyptians shall hear it, for thou broughtest this people with thy might from among them. ¹⁴ And it will be told to the inhabiters of this land also, for they have heard likewise, that thou the LORD art among this people, and that thou art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them and that thou goest before them by day time in a pillar of cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night. ¹⁵ If thou shalt kill all this people as they were but one man then the nations which have heard the fame of thee, will speak, saying, ¹⁶ 'Because the LORD was not able to bring in this people into the land which he swore unto them, therefore he slew them in the wilderness.' ¹⁷ So now let the power of my LORD be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, ¹⁸ 'The LORD is long yer he be angry, and full of mercy, and suffereth sin and trespass, and leaveth no man innocent, and visiteth the unrighteousness of the fathers upon the children, even upon the third and fourth generation.' ¹⁹ Be merciful I beseech ye therefore, unto the sin of this people according unto thy great mercy, and according as thou hast forgiven this people from Egypt even unto this place."

⁸ Oh Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies? ⁹ Moreover, the Canaanites, and all the inhabiters of the land shall hear of it, and shall come about us and destroy the name of us out of the world. And then what wilt thou do unto thy mighty name?"

¹⁸ Behold, now have I prepared my judgment, and know that I shall be found righteous.

¹⁹ Teach us what we shall say unto him, for we are unmete because of darkness.

¹¹ For thy name's sake, O LORD, be merciful unto my sin; for it is great.

¹ Give sentence with me, O God, and defend my cause against the ungodly people; O deliver me from the deceitful and wicked man.

²⁶ Put me now in remembrance, for we will reason together, and show what thou hast for thee, to make thee righteous.

¹⁸ O my God, incline thine ear, and hearken; at the least for thine own sake, open thine eyes. Behold how we be desolated: yea, and the city also, which is called after thy name. For we do not cast our prayers before thee in our own righteousnesses, no, but only in thy great mercies. ¹⁹ O Lord, hear; O forgive Lord; O Lord consider, tarry not over long: but for thine own sake do it. O my God: for thy city and thy people is called after thy name."

² and will say unto God: O do not condemn me; but show me the cause, wherefore thou contendest so with me.

²² And then send for me to the law, that I may answer for myself: or else, let me speak, and give thou the answer. ²³ "How great are my misdeeds and sins? Let me know my transgressions and offenses.

² "I know that thou hast power over all things, and that there is no thought hid unto thee. ³ For who can keep his own counsel so secret, but it shall be known? Therefore have I spoken unwisely, seeing these things are so high, and pass mine understanding. ⁴ O hearken thou unto me also, and let me speak: answer me unto the thing that I will ask thee. ⁵ I have given diligent ear unto thee, and now I see thee with mine eyes. ⁶ Wherefore I give mine own self the blame, and take repentance in the dust and ashes."

³ With me is it but a very small thing, that I should be judged of you, either of man's day. No I judge not mine own self. ⁴ I know nought by myself: yet am I not thereby justified. It is the Lord that judgeth me.

⁴ He is wise of heart, and mighty in strength. Who ever prospered that took part against him?

¹⁹ If men will speak of strength, he is the strongest of all; if men will speak of righteousness, who dare be my record?

³³ Neither is there any daysman to lay his hand between us. ³⁴ Let him take his rod away from me; yea, let him make me no more afraid of him,

²¹ Withdraw thine hand from me, and let not the fearful dread of thee make me afraid.

³ When I call upon thee, thou hearest me, and endowest my soul with much strength.

⁴ I hear no evil will in my mind. Who will compel me that I, greatly forgetting all faithfulness, should burn it up at once with thorns and bushes?

⁸ Every man recompenseth with the measure that he receiveth: He museth upon his sore wind, as upon the days of extreme heat.

³³ "'As truly as I live, sayeth the LORD God, I myself will rule you with a mighty hand, with a stretched out arm, and with indignation poured out over you;

³⁵ and will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there I will reason with you face to face.

⁹ and he said unto me, "My grace is sufficient for thee. For my strength is made perfect through weakness." Very gladly therefore will I rejoice of my weakness, that the strength of Christ may dwell in me. ¹⁰ Therefore have I delectation in infirmities, in rebukes, in need, in persecutions, in anguish, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong.

¹⁵ Yea though I be righteous, yet will I not give him one word again, but meekly submit myself to my judge.

¹⁸ And so though your sins be like to purple, they shall be made as white as snow; and though they be as red as scarlet, they shall be made like white wool.

⁵ Wilt thou then put me away and cast me off for ever? Or wilt thou withdraw thyself clean from me?' Nevertheless, thou speakest such words, but thou art ever doing worse and worse."

¹ O LORD, thou art more righteous than that I should dispute with thee: Nevertheless, let me talk with thee in things reasonable. How happeneth it, that the way of the ungodly is so prosperous? And that it goeth so well with them, which without any shame offend and live in wickedness?

¹⁹ Yea and we know that whatsoever the law saith, he saith it to them which are under the law: That all mouths may be stopped, and all the world be subdued to God, ²⁰ because that by the deeds of the law, shall no flesh be justified in the sight of God. For by the law cometh the knowledge of sin. ²¹ Now, verily, is the righteousness that cometh of God declared without the fulfilling of the law: having witness yet of the law, and of the prophets. ²² The righteousness, no doubt, which is good before God cometh by the faith of Jesus Christ: unto all, and upon all them that believe.

¹ There is, then, no damnation to them which are in Christ Jesus: which walk not after the flesh but after the spirit:

³³ Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's chosen? It is God that justifieth: ³⁴ who then shall condemn? It is Christ which is dead; Yea rather which is risen again, which is also on the righthand of God and maketh intercession for us.

¹¹ If he came by me, I might not look upon him: if he went his way, I should not perceive it.

¹⁴ "When thou speakest, then, should not he pardon thee, if thou open thyself before him, and put thy trust in him?

¹ Why standest thou so far off, O LORD, and hidest thy face in the needful time of trouble?

¹ {To the Chanter, a Psalm of David} How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? Forever? How long wilt thou hide thy face from me? ² How long shall I seek counsel in my soul, and be so vexed in my heart? How long shall mine enemies triumph over me? ³ Consider, and hear me, O LORD my God. Lighten mine eyes, that I sleep not in death,

¹⁵ O how profound art thou O God, thou God and Saviour of Israel?

¹⁶ which only hath immortality, and dwelleth in light that no man can attain, whom never man saw, neither can see: unto whom be honour and rule everlasting. Amen.

⁴⁶ LORD, how long wilt thou hide thyself? Forever? And shall thy wrath burn like fire?

¹⁷ Thus I wait upon the LORD that hath turned his face from the house of Jacob, and I look unto him.

¹⁹ For I know him that he will command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do after right and conscience, that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that he hath promised him."

² And think on all the ways which the LORD thy God led thee this forty years in the wilderness, for to humble thee and to prove thee, to wete what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments or no.

³ "Oh LORD, remember yet how I have walked before thee truly and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight," and wept a great pace.

¹¹ But lay thine hand upon him a little, touch once all that he hath, and, I hold, he shall curse thee to thy face." ¹² And the LORD said unto Satan, "Lo, all that he hath, be in thy power: only upon himself see that thou lay not thine hand." Then went Satan forth from the LORD.

⁵ But lay thine hand upon him, touch him once upon the bone and flesh, and, I hold, he shall curse thee to thy face." ⁶ Then said the LORD unto Satan, "Lo, there hast thou him in thy power, but spare his life."

⁵ I have given diligent ear unto thee, and now I see thee with mine eyes. ⁶ Wherefore I give mine own self the blame, and take repentance in the dust and ashes." ⁷ Now when the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, he said unto Eliphaz the Temanite, "I am displeased with thee and thy two friends, for ye have not spoken the thing that is right before me, like as my servant Job hath done. ⁸ Therefore take seven oxen and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, offer up also for yourselves a burnt offering: and let my servant Job pray for you. Him will I accept, and not deal with you after your foolishness: in that ye have not spoken the thing which is right, like as my servant Job hath done."

⁶ For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

³ Thou hast proved and visited mine heart in the night season; thou hast tried me, and shalt find no wickedness in me, for I am utterly purposed that my mouth shall not offend.

¹⁰ For thou, O God, hast proved us; thou hast tried us like as silver is tried.

¹ {To the Chanter, a Psalm of David} O LORD, thou searchest me out, and knowest me. ² Thou knowest my down-sitting and mine up-rising; thou understandest my thoughts afar off. ³ Thou art about my path and about my bed, and spiest out all my ways.

³ Like as silver is tried in the fire and gold in the furnace, even so doth the LORD prove the hearts.

⁹ And the same third part will I bring through the fire, and will cleanse them, as the silver is cleansed: Yea and try them, like as gold is tried. Then shall they call upon my name, and I will hear them: I will say, 'It is my people.' And they shall say, 'LORD, my God.'"

² Who shall endure in the day of his coming, or who shall stand to behold him? For he is as trying fire, and as the herb that fullers scour withal. ³ And he shall sit trying and purging silver, and shall purify the sons of Levi, and shall fine them as gold and silver. And they shall bring offering unto the LORD of righteousness.

¹⁷ He said unto him the third time, "Simon the son of Jonas, lovest thou me?" And Peter sorrowed because he said to him the third time, "Lovest thou me," and said unto him, "Lord, thou knowest all things, thou knowest that I love thee." Jesus said unto him, "Feed my sheep.

¹⁹ But the sure ground of God remaineth, and hath this seal: the Lord knoweth them that are his, and let every man that calleth on the name of Christ, depart from iniquity.

¹⁷ By faith Abraham offered up Isaac, when he was tempted, and he offered him being his only begotten son, which had received the promises:

² My brethren, count it exceeding joy when ye fall into divers temptations, ³ forasmuch as ye know how that the trying of your faith bringeth patience: ⁴ and let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and sound, lacking nothing.

¹² Happy is the man that endureth in temptation, for when he is tried he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

⁷ that your faith, once tried, being much more precious than gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto laud, glory, and honour, at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

² And see, your king walketh before you. But I am old and grayheaded: and behold my sons are with you and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day. ³ Behold, here I am. Answer me before the LORD and before his anointed, whose ox have I taken? Or whose ass have I taken? Whom have I done wrong to? Or whom have I oppressed? And of whose hand have I received any bribe, to blind mine eyes therewith? And I will restore it you again." ⁴ And they said, "Thou hast done us no wrong, nor oppressed us; neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand." ⁵ Then said he to them, "The LORD is witness unto you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have found nought in my hands." And they answered, "We are witnesses."

⁹ The righteous also will keep his way, and he that hath clean hands, will ever be stronger and stronger.

⁵ O hold thou up my goings in thy paths: that my footsteps slip not.

²⁰ The LORD shall reward me after my righteous dealing; according to the cleanness of my hands shall he recompense me, {TYNDALE: The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness, and according to the pureness of my hands he dealt with me.} ²¹ Because I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not forsaken my God, as the wicked doth. {TYNDALE: For I kept the ways of the LORD, and did no wickedness, forsaking my God.} ²² For I have an eye unto all his laws, and will not cast out his commandments from me. {TYNDALE: But I had all his laws in my sight, and I turned my face from none of his ordinances.} ²³ I was also uncorrupt before him, and eschewed my own wickedness. {TYNDALE: But was pure unto him ward, and kept myself from wickedness.} ²⁴ Therefore shall the LORD reward me after my righteous dealing, and according unto the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight. {TYNDALE: And the LORD did to me again, according to my righteousness, and after my pureness that I had in his sight.}

³ The words of his mouth are unrighteous and full of deceit; he hath left off to behave himself wisely, and to do good.

¹⁸ Our heart is not turned back, neither our steps gone out of thy way,

⁵ As for such as turn back unto their own wickedness, the LORD shall lead them forth with the evil doers; but peace shall be upon Israel.

⁶ which start back from the LORD, and neither seek after the LORD, nor regard him.

¹³ They on the stones, are they which, when they hear, receive the word with joy. But these have no roots, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation go away. ¹⁴ And that which fell among thorns, are they which hear, and go forth, and are choked with cares and with riches, and voluptuous living, and bring forth no fruit. ¹⁵ That in the good ground, are they which with a good and pure heart, hear the word, and keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

¹⁸ And when they were come to him, he said unto them, "Ye know from the first day that I came unto Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, ¹⁹ serving the Lord with all humbleness of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which happened unto me by the layings wait of the Jews,

³³ I have desired no man's silver, gold, or vesture. ³⁴ Ye know well that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.

⁷ that is to say: praise, honour, and immortality, to them which continue in good doing, and seek eternal life.

¹² Our rejoicing is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in singleness of heart and with godly pureness — and not in fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God — we have had our conversation in the world, and most of all to you-wards.

¹⁰ Ye are witnesses, and so is God, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:

²⁰ For if they, after they have escaped from the filthiness of the world through the knowledge of the Lord, and of the saviour Jesus Christ, they are yet tangled again therein and overcome: then is the latter end worse with them than the beginning. ²¹ For it had been better for them, not to have known the way of righteousness, then after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment given unto them. ²² It is happened unto them according to the true proverb, "The dog is turned to his vomit again, and the sow that was washed, is returned to her wallowing in the mire."

¹⁰ Then should I have some comfort: yea, I would desire him in my pain, that he should not spare, for I will not be against the words of the holy one.

²² Receive the law at his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

⁹ The fear of the LORD is clean, and endureth forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. ¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, yea than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

¹¹ Thy words have I hid within my heart, that I should not sin against thee.

¹⁰³ O how sweet are thy words unto my throat! Yea, sweeter than honey unto my mouth!

¹²⁷ For I love thy commandments above gold and precious stone.

¹⁶ When I had found thy words, I ate them up greedily: they have made my heart joyful and glad, for I call upon thy name, O LORD God of Hosts.

⁴² And the Lord said, "If there be any faithful servant, and wise, whom his Lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their duty of meat, at due season:

⁴⁶ the Lord of that servant will come in a day, when he thinketh not, and at a hour when he is not aware, and will divide him, and will give him his reward, with the unbelievers.

³² He said unto them, "I have meat to eat, that ye know not of."

³⁴ Jesus said unto them, "My meat is to do the will of him that sent me. And to finish his work.

⁶⁶ From that time, many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. ⁶⁷ Then said Jesus to the twelve, "Will ye also go away?" ⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life; ⁶⁹ And we have believed, and known, that thou art Christ, the son of the living God."

³¹ Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, "If ye continue in my words, then are ye my very disciples:

²² and strengthened the disciples souls: exhorting them to continue in the faith, affirming that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

³⁸ But the just shall live by faith. And if he withdraw himself, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. ³⁹ We are not which withdraw ourselves unto damnation, but pertain to faith, to the winning of the soul.

² and as newborn babes desire that reasonable milk which is without corruption, that ye may be grown therein.

¹⁹ They went out of us, but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us. But that fortuned, that it might appear that they were not of us.

¹⁹ The Lord God is not a man, that he can lie; neither the son of a man, that he can repent! Should he say, and not do? Or should he speak, and not make it good? ²⁰ Behold: I have begun to bless, and have blessed; and cannot go back therefrom.

¹² If he be hasty to take anything away, who will make him restore it again? Who will say unto him, 'What doest thou?' ¹³ He is God, whose wrath no man may withstand: but the proudest of all must stoop under him.

¹⁰ Though he turn all things upside down, close them in, or thrust them together, who dare check him therefore?

¹⁴ If he break down a thing, who can set it up again? If he shut a thing, who will open it?

²⁹ If he deliver and grant pardon, who will judge or condemn? But if he hide away his countenance, who will turn it about again, whether it be to the people or to any man?

³ As for our God, he is in heaven; he doth whatsoever it pleaseth him.

⁶ Whatsoever the LORD pleaseth that doeth he in heaven and in earth; in the sea, and in all deep places.

²¹ There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD shall stand.

¹⁵ The crooked cannot be made straight, and the faults cannot be numbered.

¹⁴ I considered also that whatsoever God doth, it continueth forever, and that nothing can be put unto it, nor taken from it: And that God doth it to the intent that men should fear him.

²⁴ The LORD of Hosts hath sworn an oath, saying: It shall come to pass as I have determined, and shall be fulfilled as I have devised. ²⁵ The Assyrians shall be destroyed in my land, and upon my mountains will I tread them under foot. Wherethrough his yoke shall come from you, and his burden shall be taken from your shoulders. ²⁶ This device hath God taken through the whole world, and thus is his hand stretched out over all people. ²⁷ For if the LORD of Hosts determine a thing, who will disannul it? And if he stretch forth his hand, who will hold it in again?

¹⁰ In the beginning of a thing, I show the end thereof: and I tell before, things that are not yet come to pass. With one word is my device accomplished, and fulfilleth all my pleasure.

³⁵ in comparison of whom, all they that dwell upon the earth are to be reputed as nothing. He handleth according to his will, among the powers of heaven and among the inhabiters of the earth - and there is none that may resist his hand, or say, 'What doest thou?'

¹⁹ Thou wilt say then unto me, "Why then blameth he us yet? For who can resist his will?"

⁹ And hath opened unto us the mystery of his will according to his pleasure, and purposed ¹⁰ the same in himself to have it declared when the time were full come: that all things, both the things which are in heaven, and also the things which are in earth, should be gathered together, even in Christ. That is to say, in him ¹¹ in whom we are made heirs, and were thereto predestinate according to the purpose of him which worketh all things after the purpose of his own will:

¹⁷ Every good gift, and every perfect gift, is from above and cometh down from the father of light, with whom is no variableness, neither is he changed unto darkness.

³ Even so have I laboured whole months long - but in vain - and many a careful night have I told.

¹⁹ Thy way is in the sea, and thy paths in the great waters; and thy footsteps are not known.

² Clouds and darkness are round about him; righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his seat.

²⁷ "How may then Jacob think, or how may Israel say, 'My ways are hid from the LORD, and my God knoweth not of my judgments.' ²⁸ Knowest thou not, or hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD which made all the corners of the earth, is neither weary nor faint: and that his wisdom cannot be comprehended?

⁹ The LORD's voice crieth unto the city, and the man that shall be saved considereth thy name, O LORD. Hear and that thy name may be righteousness. Hear, O ye tribes: who would else give you such warning?

³³ O the deepness of the abundant wisdom and knowledge of God: how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out.

³ that no man should be moved in these afflictions. For ye yourselves know that we are even appointed thereunto.

⁹ For God hath not appointed us unto wrath: but to obtain salvation by the means of our Lord Jesus Christ,

⁸ and a stone to stumble at, and a rock to offend them which stumble at the word, and believe not that whereon they were set.

¹⁵ If I have done wickedly, woe is me therefore. If I have done righteously, yet dare I not lift up my head; so full am I of confusion, and see mine own misery.

³ O that I might see him and find him: O that I might come before his seat,

²³ For I have ever feared the vengeance and punishment of God, and knew very well that I was not able to bear his burden.

³ When I was in heaviness, I thought upon God: when my heart was vexed, then did I speak. Selah.

¹²⁰ My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.

¹⁶ When I hear this, my body is vexed, my lips tremble at the voice thereof, my bones corrupt, I am afraid where I stand. O that I might rest in the day of trouble, that I might go up unto our people, which are already prepared.

³ and say unto them, 'Hear Israel, ye are come unto battle against your enemies, let not your hearts faint, neither fear nor be amazed nor a dread of them.

²⁰ But she said unto them, "Call me not Naomi: call me Mara, for the Almighty hath made me very bitter.

² "As truly as God liveth, which hath taken away my power from me; and the Almighty, that hath vexed my mind;

¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart also in the midst of my body is even like melting wax.

¹⁶ Thy wrathful displeasure goeth over me; and the fear of thee hath undone me.

⁵ Then I said, "O woe is me! For I am lost: inasmuch as I am a man of unclean lips, and dwell among people that hath unclean lips also. For mine eyes have seen the King and LORD of Hosts."

¹⁶ For I chide not ever, and am not wroth without end. But the blasting goeth from me, though I make the breath.

⁴⁶ Be not faint hearted, and fear not at every rumor that shall be heard in the land: for every year bringeth new tidings; yea, strange wickedness and lordship.

¹⁵ Alas, alas for this day. And why? the day of the LORD is at hand, and cometh as a destroyer from the Almighty.

²⁰ And therefore, see, I will receive ye unto thy fathers and will fetch thee unto thy grave in peace, thine eyes shall see none of the evil which I will bring upon this place." And they brought the king word again.

⁹ That he would begin and smite me: that he would let his hand go, and hew me down.

²² He believeth never to be delivered out of darkness; the sword is always before his eyes.

⁶ The light shall be dark in his dwelling, and his candle shall be put out with him.

¹⁸ he shall be driven from the light into darkness, and cast clean out of the world.

⁸ "He hath hedged up my way, that I cannot pass; he hath set darkness in my gate.

¹¹ Shouldest thou then see no darkness? Should not the water flood run over thee?

¹ But in the mean season the righteous perisheth, and no man regardeth it in his heart. Good godly people are taken away, and no man considereth it. Namely, that the righteous is conveyed away through the wicked,
